CommentsWhenever I’m looking to create new simfiles, I try to keep things fresh by asking myself “Well, what rhythm games have you not looked at before?” Here’s one: the Just Dance series. When I was younger, this one of my favorite songs to play in Just Dance and the more time goes by, the more I appreciate just how much this song slaps. One wiki for this game says Dagomba is “can be considered the most famous Ubisoft original songs”, and who am I to disagree with the hard truths of a fan wiki? If you do some digging, you’ll find out this song has a lot of fascinating history too: Ubisoft asked in house producer Tom Salta if he could compose an African themed song for Just Dance; he enlisted the help of percussionist Kimati Dinizulu, who provided field recordings for this song that Tom Salta used to make the kind of unbelievably dramatic song we all know and love today. I love the original dance to this song and tried (and tbh failed) to incorporate as much of its style as I could into this track, but when writing the charts I did about 20 revisions before I remembered the cardinal rule I should always remember: if it’s not fun, it’s not worth including. As far as graphics go, my one pet peeve with the Just Dance version of this song is that everyone remembers the “creepy” masked dancer who performs this song, but actual Dagomba design, fashion, and geography looks nothing like that. As such, I tried to stay a bit more true to life by incorporating the colorful stripes that are way more typical of Dagomba fashion. But don’t get it wrong: I love this song, I love the game it comes from, and I hope you have fun galloping along with the charts here.

From Just Dance 2.
