CommentsA bit of backstory:
(slight tw for a heavy topic)
I first began playing Maimai almost two years ago at a small arcade in Barnsley, UK. This was at a time when I would barely leave the house and go anywhere, nor would I take care of myself, as I had recently escaped an abusive relationship and was still recovering from nasty thoughts. I also had to hide my real self from my family at the time, as I was scared of revealing I was trans.

One day my cousin invited me to go to the arcade, where I saw they had a new rhythm game! I only had time to play a few songs, as the machine was quite busy and we had to leave early, But I wanted to play again so badly, so the weekend after, I went again. Then the week after that, and after that. I noticed how people began to watch me, they asked if I could teach them how to play, I had an audience and I began to enjoy the attention. The arcade owners began noticing this and were appreciative of me showing people how to play.

Since then I've been going to the same arcade almost every weekend. I ended up meeting my best friend who began going weekly too. She encouraged me to begin expressing myself in the way I wanted to, so I slowly began to wear more makeup to the arcade, experimenting with the way I presented myself publicly in my new safe-space. With this, I also gave her the confidence to be herself, and then other first-time visitors who enjoyed playing with us, also began to come weekly. I then met my partner there a year later, who brings out the best in me, has supported me throughout this whole contest (sorry for making you test my files), and I get to travel around playing rhythm games and experiencing life with them.
I still go to that arcade and I still end up meeting new friends for our group. I spend time with everyone, I host Maimai tournaments there, even now managing their Stepmania machine with new music. In short, without playing Maimai, I wouldn't have this new safe space where I can be myself; and the confidence I have, the friends I've made and my new outlook on life wouldn't be here. Melody Love as you know her wouldn't exist, I'd be still hiding away, but now I'm not afraid; and for that, I really put my all into this song, as it was one of the first songs I played when I went there the first time. If you've read this far, thank you. I hope you enjoy. It's a cumulation of all that I've learnt this whole competition, and I'm proud of myself.

As the song says, spin around, and dance with everything you have!
