[Moderator. Please lock.] Dance Dance Revolution: Collaboration Creation!

I'm here to announce a brand new project of mine: DDR COLLABORATION CREATION!

This is a project that will be worked on by me, and hopefully by YOU! Below is a list of things that need to be done for the theme, and you can submit them to me by replying to this post, and if I like it, I'll include it! If you guys make something, please upload it to mediafire/mega in a ZIP folder. PLEASE don't upload the default theme with your submission, and only include the assets you changed in the ZIP. Please also sort the assets by what folder they belong in when in the theme. I'm looking for audio, graphic, and script submissions

-Title Screen [NOTE: If you submit the graphics for this, PLEASE also code it, so it isn't the same as the default StepMania theme, and where the logo is supposed to be, just edit the logo so that it is just a black box with the text "LOGO" in white inside of the box, so I know where to put the custom logo that I made...] (Graphics+Coding: NOBODY)

-Song Select Screen (Graphics+Coding: NOBODY | BGM (the music that plays when you are highlighting a folder, not a song): NOBODY)

-Style Select Screen [Single, Doubles, Versus, etc] (Graphics+Coding: NOBODY)

-Gamemode Select Screen [Free Play, Battle, Course, Tutorial (Based off of DDR X's Tutorial Mode)] (Graphics+Coding: NOBODY)

-Style/Gamemode Select Screen BGM (BGM: NOBODY)

-Results Screen [every type of result screen] (Graphics+Coding: NOBODY)

-More to Come!

Once every request above is fulfilled, I have some surprises up my sleeves, and I'm gonna input something myself

You know, the ways these things are supposed to go, you're supposed to have already demonstrated talent to pull off and organize such a project and not delegate everything from the get-go. You've already outed yourself as just beginning in terms of messing with themes, dabble around a bit and build your talent from there, don't just offload the work onto everyone else.

Oh... ok... I'm just trying to make a theme that is entirely based off of other people's work, just for fun, not to say "I can't theme at all so I need people to work for me"

song contest

Chart songs and submit them here Make sure the song has a BEGINNER, BASIC, DIFFICULT, and EXPERT chart. CHALLENGE charts are optional. If your song ONLY has a CHALLENGE chart, I will consider it as a X SPECIAL type song that I call "COLLABORATOR CHALLENGE"

also your songs need to also have DOUBLEs charts on BASIC, DIFFICULT, EXPERT, and if you truly want, CHALLENGE.

There will be 80 charts, 20 of which will be COLLABORATOR CHALLENGES.

Once the theme is complete, I will be releasing the theme along with the song pack, and once the "COLLABORATOR CREATION SONG CONTEST" is done, I will let you guys know

If the song contest gets 250+ submissions, I'll extend the song contest so the pack will include 150 songs, and 50 COLLABORATOR CHALLENGES.

Hopefully you guys manage to meet that goal (or even surpass that), because I MIGHT surprise everyone with another extension.

I think you're getting way too ahead of yourself: I really don't want to sound harsh but I doubt that your contest will be able to be able to rack up 25 submissions, let alone 250. There is a chunk of people that are worried that this is one of those projects that someone starts that basically comes down to said someone getting everyone else to do the work for them and that's not good. We've had quite a few of those in the past. If this isn't your intention, then I apologize, but your posts on this thread are raising enough suspicions.

I would suggest trying to demonstrate what you're capable of in the simfile and theming/graphic departments first before you pitch a project for users (that probably didn't know you beforehand) to try and join/make things for. Lirodon, MadkaT, Inorizushi, FlameyBoy, and Kyzentun (and probably many more) are good at themes/LUA, you can try to get their help/advice to make a theme yourself that you can be proud of.

Furthermore, I highly recommend looking at this thread (Sorry to the person that made it...) to get ideas on what not to do for big Stepmania projects like this one seems to be.

As for "I'm really bad at charting", there is an upcoming contest called "Battle Royale 2018" coming up near the end of this month. Read through this to understand how it works. I highly recommend enrolling in it as a chance to sharpen your simfile skills. Don't get discouraged if your simfile does poorly or doesn't make it to the next round: Pay attention to the feedback you get and study the files that do get lots of votes to figure out what they're doing correctly. You can even PM the more successful steppers and get advice from them, I'm sure they'd be more than happy to help you.

Oh... I'm VERY sorry for this... I had hopes of making a theme that was based entirely around user submitted assets, so it would be a total mess, or a complete masterpiece. I also had hopes of the song contest being successful, so I could have a song pack to go along with the theme...

If I can lock this thread, I will on the 17th. I'll try to get help from popular themers, and maybe they could work with me on creating a theme that we all work on together... if that doesn't work... then I might just stop posting on the Simulation Forums...

There's nothing to apologize for, really. You just need to understand that in most places on the internet, basically asking people to commit to a project with no clear direction doesn't get people very interested in it. I've made that mistake too, many times.

You need a prototype before you can really get anyone on board. Game design 101 - show up with meat if you want people to work on it.

Half the themes here are already open source. There's nothing stopping someone from helping them out in the first place.

You also have no design or plan whatsoever on making this theme, so I'm not sure who would be dumb enough to contribute to your 'theme'.

I hope you understand that Axel was being COMPLETELY sarcastic when he said that. He wasn't being serious in the slightest when he posted that.

If you really want people to help you out... then I suggest you find some sort of direction from what you actually want from this first. I'm designing games again, and I know to NEVER even make ANYTHING public unless I have at least 3 things set in stone.

1. What type of game it's going to be. (Direction)

2. Some screenshots of the game in early progress. This includes things like having art/sprites done, basic gameplay mechanics, and so on. (Actually SHOWING what I have so far so that I can get feedback)

3. Enough done so that I can at least send out a playable demo. Doesn't have to be amazing or anything, but it needs to be enough for someone to get the idea of what I'm going for.

Some of these are more important than others, but these are the basic benchmarks I use before deciding if I want to send anything about the game out to the public yet. Then I listen to what people have to say about it, and make changes to the game or my plans accordingly. Themes follow a similar pattern. Sometimes it's better not to send out a "playable demo" when you first announce it, but you should still at least show some sort of direction and enough content for people to want to help and get interested in it.
