I don't care about the pads that much (should've practiced on stock tbh) but I'm still fucking tight about the song pick rule change horseshit

You’ve been acting very angry and uptight ever since the event ended. I understand your frustrations (we all do), but chill, my dude.

He hates everything Konami does. They could announce a new DDR mix today and he'd still find something to complain about.

That wouldn't change the finished KAC rules so in this thread... Yeah?

Konami makes a few fun charts here and there.

You bitch more than I do.

And everyone knows I bitch a lot.

Approximately nobody asked for this song to be included. Least popular decision by the Japanese since Nintendo released the Wii U.

Fair point. I'll take it. Also I can't comment on the other franchises, let's be fair. DDR has such a bastion of mistakes that I fully expect other franchises get better.

If I remember correctly, Blew My Mind Challenge was selectable last year, but it's not on the list this year? So perhaps those two shock arrow sets are now considered problematic?
I don't know if Konami's ever given a reason for banning Shock Arrow charts from KAC, but the first one that comes to mind is "what if a player purposely steps on their opponent's pad during a Shock Arrow".

Quote: chrono
Such a shame the defending champ couldn't even pick a song.
Yup, out of all five rule changes that screwed over NA, turns out this was the one that did Chris in.

If the finals song pick rules had been equivalent to last year's (top 3 finalists get to pick, instead of bottom 3 finalists), then Chris would have picked Egoism 440Challenge over DEGRS and defeated FEFEMZ on two songs instead of one.

Quote: CJM
I'm curious what Konami is going to do to the ruleset in next KAC. They obviously can't keep the current format due to the defending champion FEFEMZ retiring. Best case scenario is them removing DDR from KAC merging all non-Japanese regions together into one leaderboard, with two or three winning slots to go to semis or finals. Or just a single global leaderboard, with an extra rule that over 50% KAC participants must be Japanese.
I'm assuming they'll stick with the "7 players left by the time we get to semis, 4 players left by the time we get to finals" format, which was true for both 6th and 7th KAC. Then the first scenario doesn't work because there's supposed to be an odd number of players left by the time semifinals are reached. The second scenario would be great for NA and 'bad' for Konami; NA would get 3 representatives practically guaranteed since even the 5th best NA player is better than everyone in Taiwan or South Korea besides FEFEMZ.

A disappointingly realistic scenario would be "West Japan gets 2 reps, East Japan gets 2 reps, Taiwan gets 1 rep, South Korea gets 1 rep, North America gets 1 rep", which would be yet another case of +1 Japan -1 NA.

A more optimistic but still realistic scenario might be "Japan gets 3 reps like this year, Taiwan gets 1 rep, South Korea gets 1 rep, North America gets 1 rep, and there's a wild card rep like the 6th KAC". The wild card is whoever qualified the best outside of the other six reps, which would naturally be a second NA.

If an American had won, y'all would be celebrating like crazy with a parade and fireworks, and there would be no talk of fixing or anything of the sort.

Instead, an American didn't win, so clearly it was fixed so Japan would win, and skill+luck were not the determining factors. Ok.
I didn't hear anything about pad problems, other than Youtube chat trolling like usual saying "Pad is broke!!1" every time a player got a miss. I'm not a bit upset about pads; I'm upset about the finals song pick rule which ended up being the determining factor.

Quote: akio
So I've been thinking about this for a long time, and I'm really conflicted. On one hand, the champ needs to be prepared for anything. On the other hand, not only was the wording of the song pick rule and the scoring rule wonky as fuck, the communication was poor as well.
There was no wonky wording in the song pick rule, but there was a lot of ambiguity in the scoring rule and I'll give you poor communication as well. We didn't know the semifinals and finals rules until Fungah received an email (in Japanese!) and had to translate it all himself and cross-reference it with the interpreter(s). Then the tiebreaking rule about finals scoring had the infamous "so does Chris automatically lose?" ambiguity. Then the interpreter(s) had to go back to Konami staff, get a (fair) ruling that existed nowhere in the original email, and relay it all back to Fungah. This ended up having no effect in the end because there were no ties, but still, it shouldn't happen.

(Now I wonder, did FEFEMZ and RINON have to go through the same thing? Neither of them speak Japanese either afaik.)

Quote: Hsanrb
About the pads? Both Chris and Fefemz played on the same side... and since they were 1/2... and songs were PFC'd on that side... you could say that you should be willing to adapt to different arcades/pads if your the best, never get too comfortable with your setup.
This is what makes me believe the pads were fine.

Quote: Hsanrb
And the song pick rules? Every tournament will be different, there needs to be a price for having a straight entry into the finals so I wouldn't complain...
This I can't agree with. The argument here reduces down to "Chris got to skip semis (which he would have easily passed anyway), so it's fair to introduce an extra rule that applies solely to him that will directly cause him to lose finals".

Wait, why do men and women compete separately for a game like pop'n music? That doesn't really make sense

In IIDX, this tournament uses single and double charts, in pop'n music, this tournament is divided per sex, and in jubeat, this tournament is divided on single and team categories.

no new DDR game to celebrate the 20th anniversary was announced. I hoped for that.

maybe I should quit DDR because my faith in the series is DYING

Konami should do something about that. DANCERUSH was made for the anniversary, but I feel like that won't come to america so my faith is lost in that, and if KONAMI doesn't do something FAST about this DDR 20th Anniversary thing and a new game, then my e-AMUSEMENT pass might just meet the garbage can, or better yet, I won't invest my money into the new AMUSEMENT IC card that I was excited about.

g r e a t

it's gonna be a Challenge to try and recollect my thoughts after the year is over if there is no new DDR game.

"Pancakes!"
...it's... a video game.

Chill.

DDR will still be playable. You probably played Extreme for years without any problems. If DDR ends (which so far there is no real announcement of it like Reflec Beat actually did) then you can still play normally. There were still a lot of players for X2 for years until we finally got Ace so I highly doubt people will just stop playing because they can't get new content.

Just enjoy it anyway. It's made to be replayed.

Also Dance Rush definitely has that casual appeal. Look at Bemanistyle's tweet and how much that exploded.

Actually, DDR A can shine for one more year. Honestly, I would not have liked it that finish with ENDYMION (the unique song with Challenge 19 in that version ) and Ace for Aces as Encore Extra Stage. DDR Team can add more events and DDR A can continue being good version.

Sound Voltex finals lived up to the hype again. The UC by GABRIEL on Sailing Force was incredible, the fucking tie on For UltraPlayers was absolutely insane, and the new song reveal was amazing. Congrats to K.Flat for winning the tournament, i'm glad I pushed to stay up and watch that.

I wouldn't lose hope just yet because DDR's 20th anniversary isn't officially until ~late summer or November. I say late summer because Aaron of Aaron in Japan has mentioned DDR being in arcades as early as that, but November is the most generally agreed upon release date.

So... we'll see. My only hope is getting more content on Ace for now instead of Konami continuously beating a dead horse (Endymion and Ace For Aces).

I still consider Chris to be the best DDR player right now.

And there was no new DDR game announcement. This franchise is truly going down the shitter, wow. In comes DANCE RUSH to take its place.

IIDX was fun to watch, at least.

10th anniversary was DDR X, with the whole X-edits and X-Specials thing. Hence the Roman numeral X.
