Do the step techniques such as crossovers and spins have to be used like in the examples or are just 1/4ths fine?

Nakakapagpabagabag / Dasu feat. 鏡音レン
BPM: 145
- 2 | - 4 | - 6 | - 8 | - 10
Try saying that song title 3 times fast!
Ok but honestly??? This song rocks. Such a bop and such a cool concept. To quote the artist of the song, "The original plot of the song is like a modern Noah's Ark, wherein the people didn't listen and instead of feeling sad about their deaths, the main characters mocks them for not listening. The whole song literally is about poking fun about their stubborness (and death lmao) in a somewhat sarcastic way." In essence, the character portrayed in the song is merciless, which is sorta why is stepped the way it is--slowly getting harder as to show the player no mercy (stamina-wise, at least) (though I don't really think it's that hard, just very stream-y).
Here's what I'm dishing out for this week--
- Your song must contain vocals, but the vocals cannot be in English, Japanese or Korean -- The song in in Tagalog!
- Your file must contain all difficulties, Beginner through Challenge. -- Yuppp.
- At least one of your charts has a notecount including jumps that is EXACTLY a multiple of 100. -- Including jumps, has a max combo of 100.

Hi.
The images provided are examples. 1/4 are fine unless stated otherwise

I'm actually looking forward to submitting a file for this theme. Really cool idea!
Also I have a question. Would 180+ bpm 8th note jacks (i.e. paranoia) count as 90+ BPM 16th note jacks? Since its double BPM and requires the same footspeed and all

And I have finished counting. Just doublechecking and we'll get the results up in a bit. (Spoiler: 100% of the votes went to Jeb Bush)

Hi.
Yes. The BPM must be higher than 180 for slowdowns to count.
I expect you step something higher than 180BPM now. jk

RIGHT, WEEK 8, THEN.
The winner...with 36 points, is 01angel, with 魔法的新定義 electro mix! We can't move for first-time winners right now!!
The silver medalist...with 32 points, is Benpai for the 3rd week in a row, with Peacock (Haywyre Remix)!
The bronze medallist...with 27 points and 1 5-vote, is ddrstepper, with Matryoshka -Club Mix-!
All votes are available with HMs here.
Couple of notes this week:
- NO DQs! That's what I like to see.
- The order of the users at the bottom ISN'T the order that the votes came in, I just decided to build the spreadsheet this morning because I'm a lazy bastard. Look, it was a busy week, I'm an uncle for the second time, this takes up a lot of time, y'know?
- Although it doesn't mean anything and he's in the final anyway, I feel a bit sorry for Benpai notching 3 silvers in a row. Unless he's saving the big guns for the VIP Room. You go, Benpai. Kelly Holmes that mother.

Congrats to 01 and everyone who placed this round, since I didn't make a chart this week, I had a bit more time on my hands to actually note down my feedback in a way that's actually readable to anyone who's not me (my actual grading system is basically only readable to me so I can get through the charts faster while still getting all my points down).
So yeah here you go: (control-F for your chart's main title)
Also if you started your chart on a up or down arrow, that didn't reflect on you well. My voting was pretty well categorized by that I felt a lot of the charts were repetitive or dragged on a bit, so I tended to not vote for those.
And here's how I voted:
Ignition (MYRNE Remix) +4
Peacock (Haywyre Remix) +2
Babaroque (Nhato Remix) +2
CANDY CANDY - Quick Remix +2
Rumble Kung-fu Showdown (C-Show Remix) +2
A Visit to the Dentist +1
Grenade (Passion Pit Remix) +1
Stompbox (Spor Remix) +1
I'm glad I gleamed some information to how the voting went for my chart too, should be good for when finals roll around. And boy am I glad there are no themes for it.
Good luck to everyone in the homestretch, shame that these last 2 themes came when they did but given the situation I'm not too upset lol. If you'd like feedback PM me. Please be aware that depending on what my day looks like tomorrow you'll either get your response tomorrow, or more likely Friday night.
So yeah here you go: (control-F for your chart's main title)
A Visit to the Dentist - gimmicks were minimalist but what was there was excellent, great work with them! That being said, some of your stealth parts were 100%, some were 50% so that seemed inconsistent. Crossover use was very excessive imo but other than that, good stuff.
Babaroque - Very solid, you're progressing in a nice direction with this chart. The part about 55% in or so felt a bit overstepped, and some of your jack rhetoric at the end was a bit inconsistent but you're making real strides with this one; most of the rest was very well defined and its patterning followed musical cues well.
Burn My Dread - The layering of vocal and background noise following steps made the chart's flow hard to follow since the song felt like it was blending into the lyrics. Patterning was fine, 12ths/stops were cute.
Candy Candy - Very solid but the song was limiting. There wasn't much more you could do with it than you did.
Clear - (mine, no review)
Drowning - Felt very DDR, which I can respect but it's not really something I seek out. Don't let that dissuade you, I bet other people are going to like this one. It worked well for what it was but it wasn't to my tastes.
Fire Fire - Liked the increased candles when the song intensified but it didn't feel intentional since you didn't fully commit to it. I do like swing. I was considering stepping this when I looked through voltex remixes but didn't because the song doesn't have a lot of variety. I feel like the I'm so happy remix might have been a bit better.
Flow - Double check your crossovers, I think you might have put one or two in that forces unintentional doublesteps which killed the chart's flow (har har).
Follow You - Tough song to take on but you did well with what you had. Good jump use, but some of the holds felt a bit random in length/if they should be there at all.
Green Light - Love this song, great pick. Liked the crossover section towards the beginning, but I would have committed to either more or no crosses on the 4th-16th-8th parts. I don't know how I feel about the 12th use but I figured I'd make a point of mentioning it.
Grenade - Ahahaha this song never escapes me. Cute chart, nothing I'd really tweak given the source material.
Hello Happiness - The first 10% popped so much, very cute. Outside of the hold parts the crossovers seem a bit out of place, and you could have gotten a bit more aggressive with the difficulty given what you had available.
Help me Erin! - If it was me I would have just focused on a 9, while cha was ok it felt overstepped, I liked the second quarter of the chart though, the jump section was cute.
Hideaway - My biggest issue is that the intro dragged on for too long, by the time the more interesting part kicked in you were already half done with the song.
Icarus - The beginning was repetitive but the song was interesting enough to keep it from being too grating. Patterning was well done. Solid all around, just missed a point.
Ignition - Stellar hold use, unsurprisingly from you, you nailed the chaotic parts. Not much to say here really, great job.
Judas - I don't have much to say about this to be honest, it worked alright but there wasn't a ton to really grip me, if that makes sense.
Matryoshka - Offset seems considerably off the mark. That aside, quite solid. The jumps with holds in the chorus weren't the most exciting, but on the contrary I liked the doublestep use.
My Love - Was this supposed to be a ddr 11? Crossover use seemed both arbitrary and in conflict with the rest of the chart. Patterning overall needs an overhaul. Liked the song though.
New Magical Definition - Crossover use stuck out as making the chart a bit painful (on challenge). Jump holds were nicely done and were enjoyable. Overall, not bad but not a lot suck out.
Peacock - The double 16th jumps stuck out really nicely and played just as well. While that was the most memorable part I also liked the swing and it gave the song some pop. I was expecting some katy perry peacock in there not gonna lie.
Rumble Kung Fu Showdown - This really wanted gimmicks. While I think some of the crossovers didn't really have a musical cue the chart wasn't hampered too much by that. Great work, not much else to say.
Stompbox - Felt a bit repetitive towards the middle-end but the beginning was awesome. Loved the mine use then, later on it was fine but not as memorable. Crossovers felt a bit overkill. Solid stuff all around though.
Babaroque - Very solid, you're progressing in a nice direction with this chart. Thank you all for voting for me and getting me to 1st place!!! I love y'all!!!
I don't know if I did or not, but I hope I made it to the VIP round due to coming in 1st (Which I'm pretty sure I did, but IDK...)

^ As expected.Quote
Crossovers felt a bit overkill.
^ This is what happens when you try to compensate for repetition. That being said I'm legitimately surprised Stompbox came in 4th (4th again? lol). I actually think it's the weakest file I've submitted so far.

Yeah I knew that stepchart rate was inaccurate and yeah I guess I just used the same pattern through the whole songQuote: warpdr!ve

I knew that I did way too much crossovers, guess I have to work on thatPost #754 · Posted at 2017-07-03 10:01:37pm 6.8 years ago
Dev, I played your file (My Love) and it seems that the BPM for the middle part is wrong. Should be something like 86.25 if you want that sweet ×¾ scroll effect. Don't be afraid to use decimals!
Crossovers were excessive, yeah, sorry about that. I wanted to do a Challenge chart that week, but still fresh from moving to a new home, I couldn't find enough time to do so, so what you saw was an amalgamation of two charts.
Thanks for 8th place! It's nice to finally have leaderboard points, albeit this late in the game. (That's probably because I also entered late, haha)
Here's your weekly dose of the leaderboard (click for 1080p):
After 4 weeks, we finally have another stepper. Welcome, KittyBox!
The reason I mentioned that is because with him in this game, the columns now host 15 people each, which means that the entire first column contains everyone who's currently above the VIP threshold. When all 10 weeks are done, I'll remake the 1080p images so that they're consistent with each other.
Now for the actual facts about the results. 01angel has snatched her first win this season, which instantly multiplies her score by 11, and puts her in the VIP Room with other cool people. Congratulations! Her change is also the only shakeup the top 15 experienced this week.
As said before, Benpai going three silvers in a row might not guarantee him a VIP spot directly, but it looks like it's almost certain that he'll enter. Also, he enters top 5! ddrstepper takes the overall third place after a series of amazing results, and finally, Gameoson broke the 100-point mark this week!
Find out next week who'll come out on top of the buffet.

Thanks for the +1! There's a reason why I did 2 different stealth mods. On the 100% part, the music fade out entirely. On the 50% part, however, a note was sustained, so I don't think it merits a 100% stealth mod. (Also, 50% stealth made the notes entirely white over here, so that's a cool effect too imo)Crossovers were excessive, yeah, sorry about that. Whoo. The final week before the VIP weeks kick in. Well I guess it's time to say congrats to all those placed so far, those participating in this contest, and the hosts for coming up with some great themes. There are so many great simfiles submitted here and numerous newcomers have joined in since the last Summer Contest. This is definitely a lot more fun compared to last year.
Now I got that out of the way, let's look at (perhaps) my last file for this contest. And it's...
...oh.
Yes, this theme was... not exactly in my favour, is it? I'm not really a technical person when it comes to this sort of thing.
^ that's basically me trying to work with the theme
Let's see... for chart, there's...
2 spins (1 point)
6+ crossovers (3 points MAX as listed in Gatr's doc for the theme)
3 jacks (3 points)
1 bracket/bracket stomp (1 point)
2 footswitches (2 points)
TOTAL: 10 points
I'm probably wrong on my calculations, though, so let me know if I miss some things here and there.
Wait hold on. Didn't Pandy stepped this for his PandemiXium series?
Well yes. This is basically my own take on this song.
I'll say, I do also recommend playing the other charts as well, since they were made before the chart showed up for this theme specifically.
Also thanks Feraligatr for giving an OK on this one. He reviewed the charts before the chart was made, and there wasn't enough techniques to get the minimum amount. After sending him my chart, he said it was OK for this theme. I did went back and fix the chart, making sure it flows nicely, since I was basically trying to jam in as many techniques as possible in the charts.

I'm not sure if I'll have a song or not this week. This and next week are kind of busy for me. I should be back in time for VIP Room if I make it. You never know.

I mean, I'm pretty sure everyone in the top 8 or so already has enough points to enter the VIP Room regardless of what happens.
That being said, I might submit something this week, but I'm definitely using this time to work on my VIP Room files.
