this could easily have been resolved by paying attention to what you're selecting
this is not konami's fault, this is entirely the player's fault

For once I agree with something you say
What the hell does U1 smoke to come up with EGOISM 440?

"Pancakes!"
You know, it's not like Konami has the information about those songs possibly being the most failed songs for non-eAmuse players.

Like, imagine if their game had Internet connectivity to actually track that. That'd be wild.

I feel that it doesn't really matter who's to blame, the solution is poorly implemented in the first place which is the real issue here.
What they could have done instead is given the challenge remixes BeginnerLightStandardHeavy charts and kept them selectable to everyone.
As for the X-Specials, I don't know a perfect solution since not all of them can be merged into their original charts (KAKUMEI already has a Challenge chart, not sure if any others did,) and I'd expect most people who'd be playing them would probably have an eAmuse card already so that's not too huge of a deal even if it's not preferable.
This kind of solution would improve the game as a whole anyways, since a few experienced players might love the challenge remixes but might sometimes play with people who can't fathom attempting them even. I know this from experience. ECSTASY midnight blue mix is my waifu

Anyways, regardless of my opinion on how it should have been done, I think discussing who's to blame for new players failing on Challenge charts isn't really constructive at all. It's a much better idea to discuss what could be done to prevent this issue from even existing.

Two of them already do, sort of. Dancing Stage EuroMIX2 has no Challenge difficulty, so the MAX2 nonstop remixes (B4U remix and HYSTERIA 2001) appeared in the game with completely new BeginnerLightStandard charts, and the Challenge chart moved to Heavy.

In the american Xbox series, they tackled this differently, the Challenge charts for some songs remained the same, yet they added every other chart as well. In most cases, the Heavy would turn up to be harder. Personally, I prefered that workaround, albeit swapping the heavy and challenge where heavy was harder.

KAKUMEI Challenge is one whole rating lower than Heavy, so I don't think it would be that big of a deal to get rid of the old Challenge and make it the X-Special in its place. The only other songs this applies to (ones with X-Special/Groove Radar charts that already have Challenge ) are BRILLIANT 2U, DYNAMITE RAVE, and Dance Dance Revolution. DDR Challenge contains references to the charts of older songs, so I feel like that chart is too significant to replace; maybe move that up to Heavy so we can get XS in there. As for the other two, well, one is just a long stream and the other is a series of jumps, so I don't think anyone would be missing those very much.

I think the only chart this would not work at all for is DEGRS because it has tempo changes that are different from the original DEAD END but also fuck that chart

I finally got around to actually playing Rising Fire Hawk Challenge and it was honestly one of the worst fucking charts I've ever played. I actually really like the Heavy chart so it was super disappointing. Then again, I just played it to get a pass on it so that I would never have to play it again Tongue

When a consumer has an issue with going through menus or selecting songs, that is not the issue of the player/consumer. That is bad UI design. So yes, that is the fault of Konami, especially if it becomes a persistent issue (which, from what I've been reading, appears to be so).

the ability to go back to the song select after choosing and being in the difficulty select should easily be an option. If PIU can do it, why not DDR as well? It's just bad UX/UI design to not giving them that ability to do so.

independent of the whole "player paying attention" situation i do think it should be a feature to go back to the wheel after selecting, i can count on both hands the amount of times i've accidentally hit the select button with my palm or something while scrolling

Why not create some special folders in the song wheel itself for the songs?? There can be an X-SPECIAL folder and a Groove Radar folder containing these songs, and players that don't know what these folders mean will probably stay away from it and go for the original songs if the want to. (I said probably to take in account the curiosity of certain people who want to know what's in the folders)
It's like an awesome radio, you cannot see, but you can feel it.

I hope the Challenge charts make this thread descend into madness yet again. Most entertaining part of these updates by far.

Also DADADADADADADADADA getting the BGA is hype as fuck.

is this the oni attack phase of DDR A now
I mean considering how we've been getting no new content lately, I would be pretty happy with some new challenge charts. As long as they're not super insanely difficult like come to life and new century

Good to see we're finally getting more unlocks for Extra Savior. Hopefully it'll be just in time for my trip to my grandmother's in Hawaii, so I'll have a chance to check this all out for myself.

Don't really care about Dadadada... Challenge. The Heavy is good enough as it is, and I don't see what they can add at this point. Really glad they're adding the video now, though. That's one of my favorite show-off charts.

If these Challenge charts somehow turn out not to be super overcharted, I would definitely look forward to more of them coming! This is nice since I kept asking where all the Challenge charts were.

Yeah I agree with this, the Heavy steps on both modes are practically perfect for that song as is. I wonder if it's shock arrows... I hope not.
