I have a pair of PIU arcade pads that I am going to convert to DDR pads, does anyone know where I can get some cheap konami pad io boards? I'm betting the PIU ones won't cooperate with my DDR Extreme CPU.

"Give me a steady beat."
You could keep the controller boards from Pump if you convert to an ITG/StepMania machine. The hardest thing to get then would be either a PIUIO or an ITGIO for the computer in place of a PCB. Which you may already have since you have a Pump stage. Basically, once the stage itself is modded (welding) you map the arrows minus the center panel. This is how official In The Groove 2 machines are setup.

Between DDR and PIU you're talking about two different wiring schematics. How different I'm not sure, but you might need to replace a lot more than just the stage controllers.

"Oh god what I have dooooone?!"
Bemanisows is probably a better place to ask, if not aaronin.jp or bemanistyle.
Not too many own arcade cabinets here. I know it's POSSIBLE to do but not sure how much work it involves, although I know it's an enthusiasts sort of deal.

You can get the pad I/O's from Betson for a few hundred dollars a piece (you'll need two obviously). They will sometimes show up on ebay in various conditions but due to the rarity they are usually snagged pretty fast. I never usually see any on Yahoo Auctions Japan which is pretty surprising but those are the the only two places they are ever for sale. I have seen a few people on sows ask the same question and even know someone who has turned their PIU pads into DDR pads.

You don't need one if you understand how JAMMA works.

ps. No more talk about sows.

Oh ya, I completely forgot that you can completely bypass the I/O and wiring directly to the JAMMA. You would lose the pad lighting in the process of doing that but it will at least work.

This guide will teach you how to get them to function again.

I was hoping to avoid using relays. I might have no choice if I can't find boards cheaper that $600...

After looking at my pad and doing some research, it looks pretty easy. As long as you have an angle grinder, a tap and die set, a set of DDR arrows, 3 of the steel blank squares, and either an arc welder or some decent epoxy.

Have I got it?
Depends on what you mean by it. I have the means, and I've made some progress, but it is not done yet.
Been working on other parts of the cabinet as well, designing an interface cable that can easily be replaced, taking it slow on the pads so I don't get ahead of myself.

I'm going to amend my tool list to: angle grinder, dremel w/right angle attachment, reinforced dremel cutting wheels, pry bar, hammerable steel wedge, hammer, tap and die set, DDR arrows, 3 blank 11x11 pad plates w/supports, and either epoxy or welder.

I have two pump it up dance platforms. I am converting them to DDR dance platforms. I was asking if anyone knew of an inexpensive source for DDR circuit boards. I no longer require these circuit boards.
