Activision has registered the trademark DJ Hero. This is just great, more crappy rip-offs.
I mean geez, at least ITG was funny but this isn't. (And because last time I made a comment on ITG i was told to "F Off" let's not get that discussion underway )

It's probably going to be three parts rap, one part "techno".
In before "Konami will sue".

I'm interested in what this game will be like! I'm guessing the screen-layout will be similar to GH, but what's the controller gonna be like? It'd be cool if there were 2 turntables, but what else? Maybe it'll look something like a keyboard, like an ACTUAL keyboard, unlike IIDX's. I guess this way we could possibly get our mix of US techno in music games too! All this speculation is making me hungry >_>

I'm also tired of Bemani rip-offs. And I thought EZ2DJ was bad. Hey at least Korea is still the gaming rip-off capital of the world.

someone give me a logical explanation as to how knowing the title of something trademarked means its a rip off.
first of all, they might not want other people cashing in on the "hero" title. remember 3 years ago when drum hero, guitar villain, and drum villain were trademarked by RO and harmonix?
second, just because its a DJ game doesnt make it a IIDX rip off. dj max plays nothing like IIDX after all, aside from hitting notes as they fall down the screen. dj max has 4, 6, and 8 button modes, no turn table, different graphical styles, holds, and regardless of your button mode it makes you use the analog stick on the PSP versions. this game could very well actually be DJ simulation, unlike IIDX where you spin a turn table and play a mini-keyboard.
third, quit with the konami will sue crap. andamiro had more grounds to the "rip off" case than konami, seeing as how PIU came first. the only reason konami had any grounds for lawsuit is because boxors were installed in DDR machines that they had copyrighted for use with their game only. to say that konami will sue because the game is similar does nothing but show your ignorance, and that you have no idea what the hell happened between roxor and konami. use common sense, you cant copyright a fucking genre, similar to how gi joe couldnt copyright the human body.
fourth, and finally, if there is something that konami uses, they will most likely do the smart thing and pay off konami as someone else said. anyone else notice that konami is credited in the guitar hero games for the concept of using the guitar shaped controller with fret buttons, a strum bar, and tilt feature? harmionix(old GH makers) wernt stupid, activision and neversoft(new GH makers) arent stupid, only roxor is that stupid.

I remember when all those other trademaeks were registered, and I suppose it could possibley just be a similar situation, but then what would be the point? Are they going to "Hero" every instrument that can be simulated? Sounds kind of silly...
But yeah, I can pretty much agree with the rest of your post...

The only thing that bothers me is if people start calling beatmaniaIIDX a rip off of this, like already how some people are calling GuitarFreaks a rip off of Guitar Hero...
Anyway, let's see what this turns out to be.

Actually, when BMUS came out for PS2, the media gave it low scores, because it was 'a rip-off of Guitar Hero'! Imagine what'd happen if this would come out. No GH fanboys (those who don't do any other music games) would say it was a rip-off of BM. They'd say it was original, and never before seen!

Well actually, you have to give IGN credit for knowing their shit.
In their review, they acknowledged that it was a huge hit in Japan and been going on for years, "seeing more releases than DDR". But they still gave it a bad rating. Now X-Play, they were awful. God strike them down.
But anyways, GH fans just don't know music game roots and they choose not to bother with it. That's a very sad fact.

I think the reason why Drum Hero and the Villain games never materialized is the fact that Harmonix is in on those trademarks as well... when RO was bought out by Activision, and Harmonix by Viacom... it basically ensured the two would never come to an agreement (just look at trying to get a PS3 guitar patch, for God's sakes!).

Well, in Activision parlance, assets are to be monetized, and they will squeeze every last dollar from them that they can. If somebody doesn't wish to give them what they want, Activision is more than content to take their ball and go home. The 360 issue was different as the controller design is managed not by Activision, but by Microsoft (through licensing).
Still, however, not sure as to what Activision thinks they can get out of a DJ Hero besides just locking the name down. After all, who do they expect to code it, Neversoft?

Wow this is much relief from the sarcasm at BMS. Actually i think IIDX plays nothing like a real dj, so if harmonix pulls this off right, it could be nice
