- BEMANI fans are killing the genre with their elitism. This seems to be shifting away, but I still see it where if you can't pass a 10 (15 X-Scale)* you need to stfu and gtfo because ur such a n00b (Also known as "You Call THAT an Acheivement?" Syndrome).
Well, back when that was a real big problem exclusively with DDR, ITG came out and a lot of the Western Elitism shifted to that game. The modern Western "Bemani" fans are weened on the home console versions, so if anything they are mostly newcomers that simply aren't aware of the accomplishments at the very upper end of the difficulty spectrum and rate their own skills extremely high without knowing what has been done in the past.
That type of elitism did happen in Japan, but with IIDX (around 9th/10th style). It was quite literally (Oh, you can't AAA almost everything in the game on every difficulty? Get out of the arcade. You are not welcome here.). Fortunately that part of the community imploded and the fan base basically started over. From what I understand this was primarily a Kanto/Tokyo thing, though?
I could post a few things controversial, but I'll leave it at:
I like charts with lots of crossovers and BPM changes (not gradual BPM changes, though). I laugh at the scrubs that call these "cheap" and refuse to cope with the challenges presented to them. If a 35 year old legally blind man can PFC things like Second Heaven Challenge (Single and Double for that matter), why is it so hard for these guys?

The following artists suck/ are overrated:
-Terra, Yoshitaka, Naoki, good-cool, Y&Co, Ryu, DJ Command (AKBK junk), etc.
Also:
-A part of me dies whenever I see a post saying Yoshitaka is PRASTIK DANCEFLOOR. If a post about that makes Baby Jesus cry then surely Baby Jesus is already drowning in his tears. *cough*outphase.com*cough*

-I like Monkey Punk. Sue me.
-Festival's charts are much worse than the Ultramix charts in some cases.
-I have nothing against Senses being on so many mixes
-Baby's chart is awful. I do't get why people were calling it one of the best DDR II licence charts when it clearly isn't.
-Surrender (Purefocus Mix) has an excellent chart. I think it's unique for a DDR game and well executed
-I never understood why some people hate doublesteps so much. I've softened a lot towards them lately when I realized that there are doublesteps in ALMOST EVERY FREAKING GOOD DDR CHART. Granted, you get the occasional A Geisha's Dream (Ruffage Remix) or Max 300 (X-Special) or even Daikenkai that abuses the concept, but still. They're an integral part of the game.

I like Shock Arrow charts, only when they're not Pluto the First.
Are you kidding me? I didn't like Horatio's chart in US CS. Pluto The First's chart wasn't that bad, only if they just added a few in the 440 BPM section. It screwed me up badly.ポスト #25 · 2012-03-06 09:06:39pmにポスト 12.5年前

I've seen gameplay vids of Guitar Freaks, and I can't watch a single one without honestly thinking that Guitar Hero is better. Honestly I just don't like the fact that you can't hammer-on/pull-off.
Drummania is still fantastic though.

I think the argument is over the song selection more than the visual/game-play aesthetics to the game.

Baby-lon is the most under appreciated DDR character, as well as Robo-Zukin.
Bologna. Dr. D mains him. He and his tourny wins count as like half of DDR's players. *bricked*
Part because I can barely stand Baby-lon, maybe (and unlike every other character, X made it worse), the guy seems about... fairly rated. The few people I talk to are kind of... maybe 50/50 divided between "omg he's so cuuuute" and "he's so annoying." But as far as Japan went, he ranked 5th (above Yuni, below Disco) in the character popularity contest (Alice first, w00t). I dunno... I thought my dislike for Baby-lon was unpopular. xP
I suppose it's hard to compare how much most of them are loved considering they cut the poll off at Yuni, the absence of pre-X2 characters in said poll, and the lack of character discussion in general. But poor Gus and Rage didn't even surface that thing and, so I've heard, are just underrated in general from a fangirl's perspective. Then there's their lack of appearance on the X2 soundtrack/clear file. (but I got Zero in a chicken hat, yay) I guess it'd be crazy to say Rage is underrated, but Gus sort of is. Depending on how awesome a tall, 20-something-year-old cool dude with a mohawk and a tie is... which is pretty awesome.
And Robo-Zukin, but I guess people think her face is creepy or something. Boo. D: She has small angel wings that are really cute, people.

I think DDR is absolute trash compared to just about every other Bemani game...it's an easily digestible gateway into their other games but most people never really get past it it seems.
Music is far too overproduced these days. Inserting more synths and interludes into a song does not make it better and most of the time I feel that the real classic Bemani stuff is far more memorable than say Far East Nightbird.
RAM, Slake, and Osamu are all underrated and should come back to Bemani.
Sota, Ryu, and Nekomata Master are all very overrated.
Naoki, Yoshitaka, L.E.D, and Terra should stop making music as 90% of it is boring copy pastas of their previous work.
TaQ is/was the greatest artist of iidx with Kors K being a close second.
Just opinions.

out of topic, but, according to outphase, PD is new composer. Maybe Hidenori Kotera, but the real identity is still unknown. It's NOT Yoshitaka.-Terra, Yoshitaka, Naoki, good-cool, Y&Co, Ryu, DJ Command (AKBK junk), etc.

There's no song I like from TaQ and Stoic is the worst DDR song ever made. I'd say also in IIDX but Drunk Monkey takes that prize.
I love Do It Do It!!
Happy Sky is overrated.
Apple butter is the only good song good-cool has made in 4 years.
Zektbach needs to end. The magic is gone now.
Sirius has the best soundtrack by a mile.
EMPRESS and Resort Anthem's songs are crap. minus a few exceptions.
DDR II is insanely overrated.
Yoshitaka's best work is on the CS IIDX games.

WHERE THE HELL IS HE!?He's been M.I.A since about IIDX 10th, only cropping up to write the German lyrics for a couple of pop'n songs.

-I wonder why people keep ranting about Yoshitaka's 185 BPM songs a lot more than the 191 BPM songs under the Seiryu alias.
-GFDM's even-numbered V series and pop'n's odd-numbered games since 13, minus 15 are as cursed as IIDX's even-numbered styles since HAPPY SKY in terms of songlist.
-Deep down inside me I wanna hit Asaki for making more 200+ BPM songs but I end up loving those songs anyway. I still wish he'd make more stuff like Tsuminagara, Neji no hito, and Ryuuhyou no sarite though.
-Outphase and I think SSS made a lot more Yoshitaka=PD speculations than I ever imagined, or it's probably just a certain highly opinionated member who tries to be Onipa. This is before UBerserker came up with the baseless "PD = Kotera" theory.

- I liked DDR Supernova.
- I'm not a huge fan of DDR Extreme. I'd much rather play Max 2 or even just Max.
- I absolutely hate it when people overplay R3 doing the same exact "freestyle" during the repetitive 4th note part in the middle. Oh wow, you can do it backwards? Cool. Do something I haven't seen a million times before.
- Hell, I just hate it when people overplay any song. If I hear R3/Witch Doctor/Sakura/Xepher etc one more god damn time, I'm going to have to smack some bitches.
- I honestly saw very little music game elitism until ITG came around. Maybe I just wasn't paying enough attention, but back when I played in 2004, pretty much everyone was welcome to play. Once ITG came out with its incredibly hard expert charts, it seemed like everyone was rushing to BE THE THE VERY BEST LIKE NO ONE EVER WAS and they would just shun anyone who was still struggling to pass things like Max 300.

I always viewed some of the contributors to the first beatmania series (i.e. HIROSHI WATANABE, SLAKE, nouvo nude) better than some of the mainstream IIDX contributors (SUPER STAR -MITSURU-, DJ YOSHITAKA, Ryu).
On that note, SUPER STAR -MITSURU- songs annoy me, along with every single DJ Command remix.
Y&Co. EUROBEAT songs are also a part of the recipe of songs that annoy me, except for Attitude.
IIDX would be a lot better with more DJ Mass MAD Izm* songs.
beatmaniaIIDX11 IIDX RED has some of the worst charts ever made.
Ryu should try to branch out into other genres more because I think he's very bland.
By the way, these were all serious. None of these are jokes.
