One could argue that we still don't have a good 18.

We have plenty.

Yep, definitely agreed. Plenty of great 18’s, don’t even need to list any specifically. As for 19’s, Egoism is decent I feel.

Also valkyrie dimension, come to life, astrogazer.

Go for the top and nageki no ki are debatable

Weren’t most of these made after VDChallenge? (Obviously except for VDHeavy, but I’d say that’s close enough)

Rinon's adventure challenge charts in a nutshell:

New Century: 18? Alright, you have my attention --> Shock Arrows?!?! AAAAAAAAAAAA

Rising Fire Hawk: Ooh, that was a pretty great 17. One more try just because!

Astrogazer: Weird notes, yet it strangely flows. I'll give that one to you, step chart maker.

Come to Life: Konami step chart makers on a roll here!! Nice!!

Emera: Meh, not bad.

Ishtar: MOAR SHOCK ARROWS?!?!?! ENOUGH!!

Out of Focus: Cool, I like it.

Neutino: What happened here? Looks like someone brought their kid to work day?

Cosy Catastrophe: Love it or hate it, there is no middle ground.

Endymion: I found the devil himself in the game. Let's try A4A expert --> I can't even tell which is worse!!
It's like an awesome radio, you cannot see, but you can feel it.

Shock Arrows aren't terrible at all. I don't understand why they get so much hate. Sure at first they were used pretty badly in X as some SA charts were just copy-pasted Light or Standard charts with SAs thrown in, or stuff like Pluto The First Challenge, but lately they've been used pretty well.

I personally have not played New Century Challenge or Ishtar Challenge, but I have played plenty of SA charts to know that they are used very well in both of those charts. They flow well (because I know how to execute them) and look fun to play. Before, KONAMI had no idea what the hell they were doing with them. Now they do, and the result is pretty good.

You have to play SA charts to understand. If you haven't played enough SA charts, don't take a dump on them.

I have played pretty much every shock arrow chart and i can vouch for them being a pile of farts. There's exceptions like smooch Challenge, SigSig Challenge, New Century Challenge, Ishtar Challenge, and Diamond Dust Challenge but for the most part they're garbage.

Maybe the stepchart designers have more trouble designing creative SA charts which should always use 4 or 8 panels, unlike mines that can go one by one. Even the non-SA charts have that "either a hit or miss" quality...

Yeah idk wtf konami was thinking when they decided they had to make shock arrows unique from mines but that was the WRONG way to do it, especially since resultantly mines can act as SAs but not vice-versa

I can play shock arrow charts and can also vouch that a majority of them are terrible. And I can say that a majority of the reason is how shock arrows have been designed for DDR itself.

I get that they didn't want to "copy" ITG2 with the mines stuff, but making shock arrows take up all 4/8 columns all the time is asinine.

"five minute white boy challenge"
It's a terrible concept at its core, even if there are a few charts that have made them work like Smooch CSP. If you want people to jump, just put a goddamn jump there...

Lovely Radio Challenge is the best SA chart. Don't @ me though.
