beatmania IIDX 23 copula (AC)

I played beatmaniaIIDX 23 copula today, and I like the new interface. The initial songlist is overall pretty solid, and I particularly like the following songs:
-Damage Per Second
-do the thing feat. Kanae Asaba
-Dreamin' Train
-Routing
-SURVIVOR
-Transport
-灼熱Pt.2 Long Train Running (one handed the HYPER today on 1st try)


I failed 7-Dan because I was tired...probably be 8-Dan on copula. ;)
More stuff to come in the future (2323) of course. ;)

To the Paradise shares a lot of similarities to Done with Love.
I guess DJ Genki had been listening to Zed's True Colors album recently before making it.

I'm looking through the videos uploaded by IIDXTom on YouTube.

This might be the IIDX release that's initially impressed me the most, throwing it out there.

I love the video for 灼熱Pt.2 Long Train Running. It's nice to know that the Shakunetsu Sun (that's just what I call the sun character) can throw a party for its friends.

The only song that thoroughly annoys me is めいさいアイドル☆あいむちゃん♪. Everything else I'm okay with.

I know this was briefly brought up before (if it wasn't in here, this was mentioned in a different thread), but the video for STARLIGHT DANCEHALL actually covers the themes of every AC IIDX release. I'm not exactly sure if substream was included, but given how that and 1st style looked incredibly similar, it's probably in there. But yeah, overall, I'm really liking copula. I'm definitely looking forward to the unlocks and hope there are some really good ones.

I love a lot of the songs; last time that I said that was back in Tricoro. I didn't notice the video for Starlight Dancehall in the stream, so I just took a look at it not long ago; it's like an abstract, IIDX version of Illegal Function Call in terms of presentation, and I like it.

Hope it won't be long til Copula gets dispatched to all the Round1s in the US!

Gonna throw out what I thought of the entire initial lineup.

Acid Pumper - ni-21
I might be in minority on this because I kinda like this one. It reminds me of REMO-CON when he does a very out of base song that's hard dance. Getting some serious vibes of that and i'm glad because Hard Dance isn't a prevalent genre in this game. 7.5/10

Aublia - onoken feat.ALIAKE
I don't need to say shit. You know onoken isn't going to mess this up. 10/10

Damage Per Second - Maozon
Glad he finally made it to a rhythm game. This does come with traditional Maozon sound and what not. I wasn't too blown back and what he did but it's still a solid entry. Music Video is pretty cool too. 8/10

Devil's Gear - DJ Myosuke
Y'know, this entry kinda makes me wish Noizencio came in too. This is pretty much as good or better than Valgus and I liked Valgus. 8/10

DIAMOND CROSSING - S-C-U vs L.E.D.
This was largely underwhelming. This sounds like L.E.D. mostly with bits and sprinkles of a few recognizable S-C-U synths thrown in. It's still okay, but I would have expected a little more given that collaboration that it's working with. 6.5/10

do the thing feat. Kanae Asaba - MK
MK tries really hard to make this style of music interesting and to his avail, he succeeds. Not groundbreakingly amazing, but this is still a pretty good song. Can't say much about this outside of it being a decent tune. 7/10

Donkey Donk - Ryu☆
This is Ryu doing tapping into some of his older styles of music Still expect more though. But again, this still stands out from the stuff Ryu has been doing lately. It's also stupidly addicting. Boom boom. 8/10

Dreamin Train - DJ NAGAI feat. Ayumi Nomiya
This was good. This was pretty dang good for Nagai. It was basically clean throughout the way through and he didn't mess it up too much with some common synths he usually does. Good job REDALiCE. 8.5/10

Dynamite - USAO
This was pretty good as well. USAO does something different that pays off pretty well. I'm not too thrilled as I heard the other Hybrid Twerk song he did for Diverse System. This comes pretty close to how good Get off my lawn was. 8.5/10

Everlasting Last - HHxMMxST
The only real redeeming factor is Dai dancing. Other then that I don't care for this as it sounds like Follow Tomorrow. 5/10

Exchange Place - Dirty Androids
This is pretty damn cool for DA. I'm giving this a pass because I know DA has done this genre a little more interesting before. This is as close to us getting Ink Drops as possible for IIDX and that's not necessarily a bad thing. 9/10

GET READY!! - DJ Shimamura
If you took out the breakout from this song, it would have been just fine. But...Damn man. I want Shimamura to win, I want him to make a really good breakout song out of nowhere. But this isn't it... Fuck. 4/10

Go Faraway - DJ Noriken feat. Yukacco
Idk. Sounds about like every other Trap song or MNK song with a few bells and whistles on it. Not too impressed. 4.5/10

Inner Spirit - lapix
lapix brings in his style of music in full force. The only difference between him and other artist I say this about, lapix's style of music is very rarely seen outside of him or a few compilation albums. This is absolutely nutty and very true to Tech Dance. 9/10

m1dy Dynamic - m1dy
It's not the most well crafted and certainly not my favorite in the m1dy series, but this was cool. The Train whistle was a cute touch. Dubstep might turn some people off, but I wasn't too offset by it with the other stuff in the song going on around it. 7/10

Musik LoverZ - RoughSketch
He tones down the Hardstyle portion of the song just enough to add a lot of cosmetic stuff around it. He tries something new and while this isn't true to Hardstyle, it's still a pretty cute and creative take. Also that ending was cool. 7.5/10

NANAIRO - LIQU@。
For those expecting a vocaloid cover, nope. I'm glad she didn't go with this direction and decides to bring in some pretty fluent rock into this mix. Good on her and this actually stands out as a pretty solid and clean track. I am digging this one. 8.5/10

Nowhere - Nhato
Literally when this came out everybody busted a nut over this. I can see why, but I don't see how this is the best song in the game so far. I won't lie, this is pretty damn amazing for Nhato. As a comeback song and as a statement, this is what Nhato is known to be good at and he does it very well. That's.. basically it. Is that a bad thing? No not at all. Just not revolutionary. 9/10

Ride To The Core - GUHROOVY feat NO+CHIN & Yuki
GUHROOVY came in unusually strong with this song. This is moving away from their usual stuff they do but kinda parodying it at the same time. It's doing something very different that I like. NO+CHIN's vocals are still laughable and fitting. I'm really really liking this one. 9/10

Routing - かめりあ
This alone was worth the price of admission. I am already a huge fan of Camellia's stuff so this takes my love for him really far. I don't want to sound biased, but it sounds like he took a lot of his recent Doujin stuff from Resort Sunset, Future Nyan Bass, and his usual synths. Threw it in a blender. Out comes Routing. This better have a long version or somebody is getting crucified. 9.5/10

Set U Free feat. Kanae Asaba - Y&Co.
Man, 4 great songs in a row. Y&Co. came in swinging with this from the usual eurobeat. The song flows pretty well and comes in strong. Same random hints of hardstyle and gabber come in to make this a pretty hard track. It has a pretty weird build up that isn't as climactic as I hoped but it's still pretty amazing. 9/10

SHELTER OF THE MIND - YURiCa/花たん
Typical idol music. YURiCA's Vocals got drowned most of the time. Some pretty synths. Nothing much else to say. Moving on. 6/10

STARLIGHT DANCEHALL - P*Light
A pretty good upgrade from some of his work around. A step up from his work on Pendual. Good shit. The BGM is purty 8.5/10

SURVIVOR - SOUND HOLIC Vs. ZYTOKINE feat. Nana Takahashi
It's a shame Linjin's talents were wasted on this. 4.5/10

To The Paradise - DJ Genki feat. SHIN from HYPERNOVA
DJ Genki comes in with the most "what the hell, he made this?" song of the initial songlist. But in a good way. This is just very staggering and I keep forgetting Genki can make good without Yukacco/Nanahira. Good shit man. That abrupt ending tho. 8.5/10

Transport - Sota Fujimori
Typical Sota Synths. Typical Sota Pattern. Typical goodness from the man of Synth Trance. Now apparently techy. 8/10

Uh-Oh - kors k
Oh, that's the actual title. That isn't the reaction that everyone had when he was making a song for copula. kors k actually delivers something pretty decent for the fourth incarnation to the candy rave series. That mid break with the scratches is pretty nasty. 8.5/10

Wheel of Journey - Vivian
Vivian surprisingly was kinda mellow with this. It's still a nice little change of pace from the usual stuff but it didn't provide enough snap for a real Ethnic song. Perhaps this is the wrong game or theme it should be in? It feels very out of place from this mix. 8/10

オルタネイトβ - Xceon feat. Mayu- NOPE FUCK THIS. 1/10

朝焼けから始まるボクらの小さな旅 - cosMo@暴走P
Chroma eat your heart out. Chiptune-styled, rock themed, goodness. I really have no other impressions but to say that cosMo is pretty damn good at diversifying his style of music. Good on him and good that he is back to make another great track. That train break is also really cute. 9/10

星屑ディスタンシア - ARM feat.不透明度 + Brasscapsule
woah. ARM comes in with some pretty smooth jazz. Something very laid out and pretty hard to mess up. Coming from ARM's music in IIDX so far, this is definitely an improvement of that regard. Kudos to you and Brasscapsule for making this a fun track to listen to. 9/10

めいさいアイドル☆あいむちゃん♪ - DJ SHARPNEL feat.みらい
It's SHARPNEL's style. Take it or leave it. I'm leaving it. Sorry man. 2/10

This is a 10/10 guys. This isn't news.

灼熱Pt.2 Long Train Running - DJ Mass MAD Izm*
I like this. Not as much as part 1 but I do miss the scratch master himself. It's nice to see him in action with something that we have come to expect from him. Though not as epic and grand as some of his other stuff is, it's still pretty damn good. Also that Airhorn section was sexy. 8.5/10

少女アリスと箱庭幻想コンチェルト - DJ TOTTO
I can appreciate him trying something a little more lighter. Something that is more soothing and albeit, a bit more boring. This is still pretty good but TOTTO has done better. Still pretty good though. 8/10

シュッパツシンコウ・シサカンコ - 星野奏子
This was extremely cute. Matches the theme. The video is stupid. The song is even more stupid. I'm giving it an 8.5/10

太陽SUNSUNボンジュールアバンチュール - Project B-
Again cute, but in a musical saints go marching so of way. And this is really different in a way that is very interesting. It's a very starkly different style Akhuta choose to go and for the most part this song works in that sort of cute, innocent, marching song. Kudos. 9/10

追想快晴テーマパーク - PHQUASE
Not bad. Not entirely great either. That buildup near the end was cool, but for the most part it just seems like too much is going on that isn't really connected to much outside of just being white noise. Nice try though. 7/10

Nice analysis, i have different opinion in some points but its ok ... just a thing i notice:


The lyrics was made by Nana Takahashi, but YURiCa is the singer ... and no, they are not the same person (YURiCa sung TOXIC VIBRATION, WITCH HUNT and TIEFSEE for example)

Finally had time to see all of the songs/charts through iidxTom's youtube channel.

This is the first time in a while where I am content.

It seems this style has finally reversed the trend of increasing average song BPM since tricoro.

*Counting day-one songs (without unlocks or Extra Stage-exclusive songs):
tricoro: 163.62, SPADA: 167.29, PENDUAL: 171.26, copula: 160.59
Also I wanted to do a "number of hardcore songs per style" but realized that might be highly subjective depending on who looks at it

Nice to see Nekomata again in IIDX, and a little curious how do you get the extra stage, if you require some special condition or is just the normal way

People are getting it by clearing their last song of the credit (and maybe the other two also) on [A] and EX-HARD with at least a AA. It remains to be seen if there's more to it than that or not.
Interestingly, only [N] has been unlocked, when usually it's the [A] that gets seen first.
