has anyone coach a few people on playing DDR/DS? cause when I go to my arcade, I usually help some people out (examples how to choose a song, picking a diffuculty, etc.) have you done this before?

I sometimes do that when they seem unsure on how to pick difficulty on a SuperNOVA.

Sometimes when beginners are having trouble, I show them how to pick the difficulty, scroll the song wheel etc. Once in a while they'll ask me to play on the 2P side so they don't fail .

When I teach people DDR, it's usually in my house so that they wouldn't waste monaey or feel embarrassed. About a month ago, I teaching some friends of mine how to do crossovers and had them go over some basics of playing Doubles.

One time when someone was on SuperNOVA. Mainly the confusion on the music-selection difficulty.

I help people out whenever I can, since my arcade gets a lot of newbies. For the real beginners I point out things like how playing Versus will make it harder to fail since both players have to fail, and sometimes I'll clap to the beat if it's a slow song (i.e. We Will Rock You).
Several of my friends are where they are thanks to my tips, too; I help point out techniques or step patterns they need to work on, and I get them to play the occasional Nonstop for stamina.

Yes I do help people when it comes to this. For newbies, I usually let them go to a difficulty that suits their best so that they can survive the stage especially when it's final stage. Sometimes, I go also with the newbies on a Versus style of play so that they would be guided by me in case they are about to fail. I usually choose a diffculty higher than their choice. Ex. My team mate choses Difficult so I choose Expert but sometimes I also choose the difficulty that they prefer) I'm just starting to develop my skills in playing the game by means of MA or Technical Playing...

Usually, i always guide some newbies how to play DDR from press the button until how to choose the songs and move their feet especially DDR Extreme AC. I always choose Remember You for the easiest song on DDR Extreme AC as 1st stage so newbies can learn step by step. I always say " Hear the song closely and feel the beat so that you can hit the dance panel correctly and accurately."
For advanced player, usually i always give some hints and tips for using crossover, quick tap and turnover for some songs. I seldom saw people who play Afronova on , and mostly have trouble crossovering on "Hey vibe!" section.

Anyway, because I teach using my DS SN1 CS, I use All The Things She Said as a first song. It's pretty well known, and it's the slowest song in the game (clocking in at just 90 BPM), so it's ideal for first-timers. I've also taught some people transferring from Difficult to Expert (well, from 6 to 7 feet). For that, I use an SM dedicab. A pretty good way to get people into 7s is by choosing Make A Jam and Tomorrow Perfume. Make A Jam's pretty easy as 7s go, but it's good practice for longish streams that you see in loads of 7s (especially licences). Tomorrow Perfume's also a good introduction to chaos, with the 16th gallops around the opening third.

I usually guide the newcomers by using certain, familiar songs. But I also use certain songs that contain a certain element (like streams, jumps, etc.) for them to improve on.
Examples
Jumps: Dance Dance Revolution , or ; Love <3 Shine
Long, slow streams: Do It Right , Make Your Move
Long, fast streams: A or ; Dragon Blade
Gallops: (any suggestions)
Chaos: Konoko (it intentionally throws them off when you listen to the music)
Freeze Arrows: Curus , DoLL , The Shining Polaris
For beginners, I usually use Twilight Zone, butterfly , Unbelievable, or Doesn't Really Matter, depending on the machine.

Thanks, but I'm also looking for an introduction to gallops. I haven't dealt with gallops enough to come up with anything.Post #19 · Posté à 2008-07-22 12:14:24am il y a 15.8 années

Intro to gallops would be "My Generation", as it only has a few gallops, so if you can't do well on them, you can still survive the song.
R&P is for convincing people they'll never be able to do gallops. ;)

Most people I've come across don't like certain songs because they're too slow. Of course, you don't want them to tackle fast songs, either, so I'd start them with something around 130 BPM and let them bridge out as they better understand the game.
