3. You are not allowed to vote for your own song.
For clarification, does this mean the song we submit or the song we step?
Either way, I'm in on this.

I also made things.
Those are awesome! Thank you. What font did you use for "Simfile Shuffle"?

I'll join as well! At least this'll give me something to keep me busy (other than college thesis, woo~)
So we'll send in the music file on Monday (that's already cut down to under 2:30), and the rest is up to us. Am I right in saying that?
Also, do you have any rules about the file needing graphics or anything? Like it must have a banner, jacket, and BG? Or the background has to be this size (less than 800x600 or something like that)? Just wondering.

Question: Are we submitting songs that are "two minutes and thirty seconds or less" or "any length song and it's up for the charter to cut it under 2:30"?

May I suggest that when voting for "steppableness", we can also vote to veto the simfile if we honestly don't think it'll be possible to make a quality file out of it? And if more than half the people involved vote to veto, it gets replaced?
That'll prevent or at least discourage people from shitting up the contest by submitting joke entries, or terrible song cuts.
Big Question
Can we re-cut the song that's been assigned to us, to make it more playable?
Silverhawk will review the song and will say if it's a bad cut or not and the person who sent the bad cut will likely be DQed for the round.May I suggest that when voting for "steppableness", we can also vote to veto the simfile if we honestly don't think it'll be possible to make a quality file out of it? It would be nice to be allowed to cut the songs ourselves. For instance, if I happen to have a higher quality version of a song or want a certain segment of it to be in the cut...

Answering time~
Also it's okay to request help for cutting if someone didn't send a cut version, and the assigned person can't cut either.
So when it's the "steppableness" voting time, everyone PMs me and also indicate whether they want to veto for a song or not.
Just adding, you can't vote the steppableness of the song you submit yourself (for reasons similar to why you can't vote for the song you step).
maybe we should define "step-vote" and "judge-vote" for these two things lol
also pandy perhaps we need to update first post now

Okay, so for this, people who send in songs that must be cut to game length must submit at least the full version. They can submit a cut version as well, but it's the assigned person's call to use that or cut another version. Can we re-cut the song that's been assigned to us, to make it more playable?

Hmm, this works too, since that means including a song or not becomes the participant's call, not entirely mine.So when it's the "steppableness" voting time, everyone PMs me and also indicate whether they want to veto for a song or not.

No, graphics is completely optional. You can ask around for people to make one for you if you can't make one too.Quote: Mr.Music

I actually like the idea of people cutting the songs themselves, before submitting them, because then it really feels like you're being given part of the simfile, and having to build your ideas around it, instead of just being given a commission. Also, we know that people often ask for help cutting their entries, so if the people who can cut make an effort to do so, and the few people who can't get their heads around it are allowed to submit full versions, it'll open the doors for more people to enter the contest, without being afraid of the song cutting part.
The reason I'm querying it is that it obviously lets us make good simfiles out of bad cuts if necessary, but also because the way the song is cut can drastically change the type of simfile you come out with. Last year, I think Pandy and I managed to make an 11 and a 15 out of the same song, by using completely different parts of the song.

I'm thinking just vote from 1-5 on how steppable it is, and vote "Veto" if you think it's absolutely completely unsteppable for some reason, or you wouldn't possibly be able to step it for some reason other than "It's really hard to step"? For example, someone was talking about making a "Pewdiepie" simfile pack yesterday, and I'm guessing if the vast majority of us were randomly given one of those songs, we probably wouldn't step it for moral reasons. Stuff like that.
Now that I think about it, perhaps a better solution would be to leave it upto Silverhawke to decide which entries to refuse, since we obviously all trust his judgement, and then give each player one veto that they can use during the duration of the contest, so they can refuse a song on things like moral grounds after they've been assigned it. If someone uses their veto, or a song gets refused, then how about we randomly give them a duplicate copy of one of the other songs in the round? I think that might make things super-interesting, because you'll sometimes have 2 people trying to make the best simfile they can out of the same MP3 file, and we'll get to see some real head-to-head battles of contrasting styles?

Seconding this. I can do some music trimming/graphics for those who need it; it'll make up for the weeks that I can't join in.

I have a huge library of unused cuts. Send me a PM if you can't cut.
I have other things to do so I am not offering to cut songs or do graphics. For graphics, you can use my generic contest graphics.

So is the system I propose okay? (having to send in a full version, and a cut one if possible)

So people, what do you think of that. It's either that or the 50% (or maybe 60% or two-thirds) veto voting.

I'd prefer just sending in a cut to be honest, I have a lot of unused cuts.
