So, on the subject of spreadsheets:

I managed to make a spreadsheet that makes creating BG Scripts from ULTRAMIX/Universe games much, much easier. I'm able to create scripts in a fraction of the time it would take to manually copy the script from an official file to a #BGCHANGES section on a Simfile. This means: I'm able to crank out more scripts in one session, and more importantly, not exhaust myself in the process.

The downside of this method, though, is that it does not take into account matching the official scripts' transitions, and substitutes a simple crossfade for anything that isn't an instant cut. While that can be changed, I'm hesitant to do that because of how complex the spreadsheet already is. The current formula for determining whether or not to apply a fade (which translates to a simple 1 or 0 in that cell) alone already has several nested IF statements, among other things. That, combined with the fact that there's a lot of transitions in ULTRAMIX (and Universe?) that I can't replicate using what comes with StepMania, means that I don't really feel like it'd be worth the effort to incorporate it into my workflow at this point.

If anyone is willing to take on the challenge of making Background Transitions that replicates those found in those games, however, that will likely change at some point. Also, for the record, if anyone is interested in adding those transitions to my scripts themselves, I officially give you permission do to so (so long as I'm credited for the base work).

Noticed the other day that A's script was slightly incorrect. Two of the movies in the middle of the fast half of the song did not have transitions when they should've. I'll update the script in full on it's original post. In the meantime, replace this:

Now, I've gone through a lot of different ideas when making my scripts. I've tried to make comments on the scripts where I've made changes (those mostly being fade-ins I've added to the beginnings of scripts), but this is all very much a work-in-progress. Still, I figure it's better to get something out there. Important thing is, most of these scripts are less complex than, say, the script I originally made for A, but that's the trade-off when focusing on quantity over quality. Also, it's worth saying that not every script had transition effects to begin with.

If anyone has any thoughts, suggestions, corrections, or general feedback, feel free to share here.

At a glance, that seems pretty neat! Unfortunately, I tend to create scripts by directly editing the .sm file, as my method for Ultramix/Universe games involves copying/pasting into the simfile. I imagine that someone else might find it useful though, and I'll definitely keep bitEye in mind if I decide to create a custom BG script again.

On a completely separate note, I have some more BG scripts, including one from Ultramix (which I had to manually script, unfortunately). Make sure that you have the ULTRAMIX folder inside of the RandomMovies folder; the script won't work without it!

Okay, so a couple of notes.
So, I can't do StretchRewind and File2Normal at the same time, so at 315.750, I cheated the system a bit. Pretty self-explanatory.
At 489.750, the gradius5 animation is actually supposed to play in reverse. But I don't have a reverse version of it, and I sure am NOT making one. (Not right now, anyway.)

...and I think that's it. Now if you'll excuse me, I need a nap.

I have returned!

I've been meaning to update the GitHub with my scripts for a while, but life stuff has been keeping me quite busy. However, today I finally pushed updates that brings the GitHub repository up-to-date.

Note that I've moved back to making #BGCHANGES-only text files, though I have included instructions on how to use them this time. I've also added ULTRAMIX scripts that use the videos' original names, in a separate RandomMovies folder (labeled ULTRAMIX). If you already have the other folders, you only need to download the ULTRAMIX folder and place it alongside the others.

Hopefully I'll be able to update the repository with new scripts more regularly now.

If I had been thinking when some had requested a few of my bgchanges, I would have also posted a YouTube vid of the script in action, along with the coded script here so you can see what it looks like to decide if you wanted to use it. I guess I can start doing that in the future, if anyone has any requests of those I've done over these many, many, many (inhale), many years. *halo*

That being said, I worked on updating my GitHub page yesterday, adding some scripts (and adjusting/fixing one). I hope that I can start working on this more regularly, but I can't make any promises.

Number 2 is perhaps my favorite song to make it's debut in SN1, CENTAUR. I'm partial to smooth jazz.

Hello everyone!! I'm brand new here, though shame on me because I've been coming to this site for a couple years now.

Anyway, this thread is the only reason I made an account here and I had just a couple questions.

First: I know there's a github repo but I have ZERO IDEA how to use it. I just click through whatever's there and there's alot of missing stuff. What about making a non github databse for noobs like me?

Second: speaking of databases, is there one available for all the available scripts already? (There probably is, my problem is sifting trough all the threads and different scripts posts in said threads. I'm pretty sure this question was posed before in this thread, but making an archive or something? Like each game has an archive you can download?)

(Probably) Lastly: am I correct to assume all the scripts are official unless you guys specify it's a custom/fan made script?

I legit spent the last three hours or so going through the 21 pages here copying and pasting whatever script I assumed was official.

I wanted to point out that someone's mega link from the previous page was broken (I think it was DarkFeline's but please dont' quote me on that, lol.)

Bear with me guys, I haven't used a forum in at least 15 years so I forgot how to save/copy/quote all that stuff. Also, I have been playing ddr/stepmania since 2003 but I have ZERO experience with writing scripts or anything.

I DO however, want to give you guys a massive THANK YOU for keeping all this alive still. I recently started playing stepmania in earnest, so getting the background movies right is super important to me. Thanks again!!

EDIT (LIKE TWO HOURS LATER): I DID find this spreadsheet with some scripts on it! Idk who did that but props to them!! I'm wondering if someone has a database for anything not from the MAX era?

Sadly that spreadsheet you found is the only database for my thread, and I too am a noob in github. I could skim github okay but I can't teach you how. Maybe someone has a different noob-friendly database.
