al2k4 is planning to get rid of user ratings soon, according to a post of his on the Zenius -I- Vanisher.com 5th style II thread:

User Ratings will be removed soon anyway so there probably isn't much point.

But why? Shouldnt we have some sort of reward for being good on the forums, and also some way to tell how trustworthy someone's information is?

This. It discourages newer members. Also people are being seen based on how high their numbers are and not who they are. I've never been to big of a fan of the user ratings so I'm kind of glad they are going away.im all for this so people stop complaining that their rating went down

Personally, I think people should stop complaining about their ratings regardless of whether they continue to exist or not.

If/when the User Rating System gets phased out, what will that mean for those who were allegedly banned due to their rating(s) being too low? Do they stay banned? Do they get unbanned?

A rating does do something. It provides a sort of way to determine how reliable/helpful a certain user is. Also, getting rid of the system would likely increase sh*tposting since there would be no penalty for it (except banning, but that's only used in extreme cases.im all for this so people stop complaining that their rating went down
Also users who complain about ratings are usually complaining about a 10-20 point loss, which honestly isn't even worth complaining about. Those users are the minority, and honestly if there whining over an arbitrary number on a very niche forums site involved around a genre of video games where you tap buttons to various rhythms in a song, I'm sure that they have other problems that won't go away by removing the rating system.

That's not a good defense, is it?
Of course it could be worse. But not by much.

I mean it's not like +5s are for people who are "Consistently very informative, helpful and friendly" or anything like that...
implying people don't just rate people +5 because they're friends with that person or because they beg for pointson the inverse, implying people don't just rate people -5 for voicing an opinion they disagree with
people abuse ratings all the time, they're about as reliable as any other rating system

I do realize that some people do indeed do that. But I doubt that users can really do all that much to manipulate their ratings, since one individual rating of +5 or -5 is very often less than a 30 point swing. I highly doubt people in the 500+ range have really manipulated around 30-50 people to get there.

casual reminder that i was dropped over 100 points in less than 24 hours because i said something people didn't like in the ddr a threadalso users who won't be named with high overall rating have managed to plummet me further with a simple -3
to say that the system isn't flawed is bullshit and i am reason to prove that
on board for the removal of this archaic system

Personally, I was fine with the user rating system because if I was ranked down, I know I did something wrong recently and I can figure out what I did to try avoiding that mistake in the future, and/or apologize for my actions. I might find it harder to tell when I screw up without it, but I'll do my best regardless. My main guess as to what the problem is, is that people on the internet have trouble telling that other people are actually people, not AI. At least, that's the problem I have... please don't tell me I'm the only one who has that problem I guess I'll kinda miss it, but I won't complain.
