I sometimes use them as well in my charts, maybe once or twice. And since it is just a thing that you will see in DDR and ITG, I accept them. But when the whole chart is filled with laterals/walking crosses/Afronova Walks, one after the other, it becomes distasteful and just plain repetitive and slightly harder to read imo.
that's like saying "you know what's repetitive? crossovers" or "you know what's repetitive? jumps" or "you know what's repetitive? the left arrow"
You do have a point there, can't argue with that

Hmmmm...a better way (or not) of me saying it would be like "less about the repetitive-ness and more about reading a chart". I had a lot of trouble grading charts at the start of this contest because I wasn't used to the commonplace use of crossovers and laterals in a majority of the submissions. It seems to be a lot harder to anticipate when to do a crossover or lateral when you start out making charts or playing DDR/ITG/PIU.
But this contest really did help me to improve my sightreading in general and I must thank all of the step-artists for making what they make in every chart.

Is this keychange or not?

in song:
http://picosong.com/TCLz/
I extracted this from this midi:
https://www.flutetunes.com/tunes.php?id=91
How is it different from this:

https://zenius-i-vanisher.com/v5.2/thread?threadid=8997&page=65#p383004
Neither DDRDAIKENKAI or ddrstepper reply the PMs. I'm tired, I slept 3 hours yesterday and it's already 00:36.

Sadly not, the pattern in bar 5-8 is on the same note but just an octave higher. Honestly, I think modulation should still be allowed anyway, so go for it.
Notice how in both pictures, the pattern is the same but repeated twice, and notice how both times they start on the same note but on a high number (C up to the next C, B up to the next B. If it was a C up to a different note and not just the same on a different octave, you'd have a key change)

That part I thought worked actually goes to F#, Lisek's diagram is actually wrong.
With that said, I honestly want this problem to be resolved as quickly as possible so Lisek, you are free to upload. I'm very sorry for the mix up and the rough week you've had and that I couldn't figure it out myself at first. Go ahead. No DQs for you.
*Let it be known that I'm not going to be this lenient on any other future submissions that seem questionable. If in doubt, I will discuss it with some second parties, and if we agree it doesn't qualify, it simply doesn't qualify.

OK wow um........this is a lot to take in.
I will be completely honest: I did not realize this theme could potentially be this confusing, nor did I intend on making this a week exclusive to people who study/have studied music theory. I chose the theme with the assumption that key changes were easily noticeable because, as someone stated earlier in the thread, it's a very common trope in music. The extent of my music studies include playing the violin from 4th-8th grade and that was it, and I didn't even fully learn how to read music. My point is, I have little-to-no actual knowledge of music theory, but I personally am still capable of noticing when a song changes keys. I genuinely did not realize this would be frustrating for anyone to participate in, and I'm really sorry about that. I'm especially sorry I haven't been able to be active enough to try to ease some confusion. I really didn't think the contest would go this far into the "summer" which is really my fall because of school having started 3 weeks ago for me, so I just haven't had an adequate amount of time to try to run this with Aegis as best as I can.
I know this might be a little late to offer, but if it's any sort of consolation, if you're unsure as to whether a song has a key change, you can do a search of a "music key finder" on Google or any other preferred search engine and you should be able to find a program that can approximate what key an audio file is in. It's not always perfect, but it's close enough (I've had some pretty good success with KeyFinder for making mashups). My suggestion if you're not sure if a song changes keys is split the song up into two (or more) test files: one with the a clip of the song in what you think is one key, and another clip of the song of what you think could be the other key. Import those files into the program, and the program should indicate whether those two files are in different keys.
That's all I can think of saying right now?? Again I'm really sorry about this whole ordeal.

Don't worry about the theme. It's not so bad.
A few people are not getting it at first thought, but we're here to help.

Well. I think perhaps this would be a somewhat appropriate song to go out on for the Summer Contest.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Well might as well put my votes up while I'm still here.
4 pts - Cosmical Rhythm (ledgam3r1279)
3 pts - Deep In The Night (Gameoson)
3 pts - Evolution Canceler (NuVirus) (well there is definitely a lot of work put into this one like Benpai said. Kudos for putting it together well enough to make it enjoyable)
2 pts - Perfume! (Benpai x Feraligatr)
2 pts - Genji v. Hanzo (Overwatch Dubstep Rap) (The Legendary DJXYZ) (seems interesting w/ how the attacks are set up, and the steps as well)
1 pt - Hikkomori (Benpai)
Honourable Mentions
-------------------------
.Blow (Gameoson)
.Electric Walk (Astroman129)
.Savage Youth Theory (HealingDMax300 x mf32892) (Not a fan of the challenge chart. I'm aware the video fits w/ the chart, but it's just not for me. Heavy chart was fine, however)
.Dirty Little Pop Song (Lisek)

Deep In The Night [Gameoson] - 8
Evolution Canceler [NuVirus] - 8

A Jonathan Coulton classic covered by Nathan Sharp, formerly known as Nate Smith or NateWantsToBattle.
Key changes from D major to F major. TWICE.
And don't worry, of course I kept in the repetitive ending. It's what makes Still Alive, well, Still Alive.

@Lisek, Why does the melody have 3 adjacent notes E, F, F#? No scale has that, so the melody is not just in one scale. The bottom just plays a melody in the C# major scale, or it really could be the F# major scale, then shifts an octave up.

Basically this. I haven't been feeling it like I was early on in the contest, and I just haven't been able to finish a file ever since Seaside Heaven 3000. It would suck because I want to submit for this theme but I'm very uncertain if it's happening. I'm not even sure if I can get votes for Week 10 in either. :/
