Well, considering that the music is the main part of DDR, it is understandable many would hate it. Also, I seriously hope you are talking about the AC engine, because the CS engine is crap

"Never Gonna (pass) Trim"
It (being DDR X) was an improvement over SN2, but the licenses were bad on one and okay on the next. Shock Arrows plus Bad announcer=don't do it again, Konami, please.

These licenses seem like ones that I'll play over and over so far.

Again with the X hate? Annoyed
didn't like the direction that was taken with the music. So that equals a bad game to them.

Personally, I thought the CS version of supernova 2 (in america at least) had the best crop of liscenses out of the recent ddr games (barring 3 or four tracks)

Overall, X felt half baked. Not only are the licenses absolutely awful, it all just felt a little rushed etc to me.

This new game is shaping out to be what X should have been in the first place.

I want Konami to "advertise" this game. Yes, they do advertise in anime magazines, health magazines, and basically magazines. MTV Konami! I saw so many MGS4 commercials last summer (and obviously it payed off because of word of mouth, game play, and ads)

i just want everyone to know that i'm calling this now- there will be some sort of small feature, like combo glow or MFC splash in X, that wont be in this title that everyone will bitch about being in the JP version. everyone saying that X was rushed and that this is what X should have been will be saying that this new title was rushed.

how do i know this will happen? because its happened with every game but EX2 and UM2 since i started playing, thats why.

The Japanese versions haven't been faithful AC ports (engine wise) either, lately. Kind of sad.

Unrelated, but they absolutely need to fix the ridiculous song preview loading time; but seeing how it's still in the E3 PS2 build, I doubt it...

We don't even know if Japan's getting a different version or not.

It's a shame too. If you look at the songlist video, you can see that the game is smoother and actually loads faster than X did...

There's also an additional 20 songs created by the Bemani development team, so there's sure to be a healthy dollop of cheesy j-pop along for the ride.
Thanks, Gamespot, for not falling into the stereotypical pitfall of DDR being that weird dancing game for people who aren't cool enough and don't have enough friends for Guitar Hero and Rock Band. ;)

The licenses list look really great!!
This video made me like the skin for the PS2 version. It deftinitely looks better than DDRX.

Now, I'm waiting for the new KOs (especially, the boss songs)

I think calling it cheesy is a bit endearing, actually. Mostly because it's true.

Oh boy, I can't WAIT to see the boss songs, especially the inevitable one from jun. Silver Dream was such a good song but it was marred by a terrible step chart! I really hope they learned from that. The KO's in this are gonna be awesome if HP2 is any indication.

Agreed, I liked the music from X. Even the North American version (for once). AC engine, yes I am. Hopefully the console ports for DDR will be more true to the arcade in feel as X was in looks.

Sadly, I completely agree. But I also think this is a continuation of the X engine so I'm feeling good about all the improvements made from SuperNOVA 2 to X remaining intact. Unless the 360 and the Wii are just getting upgrades to their respective engines instead of a unified one.

Oh well, the PlayStation has always been the mainstay of the DDR series on the console. The tangents elsewhere have their charm, but if one must choose, stick to the known road.

no doubt about that, the improvements from SN2 to X will most likely be there. actually, i'm expecting this release to be based on the JP X engine since that version had the MFC/PFC splash and the combo glow and this version(from vids i've seen) also has combo glow. still, there is bound to be some small thing added to the JP version that wont be in the US version.

still, my point was more that everyone is praising this game based on the few things we know about it just like they were SN2 and X before those came out, and now most everyone slams SN2 and X calling them rushed because the JP versions got things we didnt. everyone saying that this game is what X should have been will be slamming it after it comes out, i guarantee it.

meanwhile, everyone like me that remains skeptical of the new release will be pleasantly surprised, just like i was with X. i expected complete garbage, and i ended up with horatio and SWHS expert charts that rock. actually, after playing a lot of them on R21, i like quite a few X songs.

We were told by a Konami rep that, for the first time, Latin America also gets a range of songs.

What pray tell does THAT mean?

See, I expect a game like DDR to introduce me to new types of music. It has gotten me into genres I didn't know existed in the almost eight years that I've played. DDR 2009 looks like it was commissioned by Billboard. I'll enjoy a lot of those songs... but I won't get exposed to anything I haven't heard before.

That's why I like X, a lot. I think I spend an hour or two listening to POLYRHYTHM over and over again. Puppy Face

Amazingly, I hope that it isn't new boss songs. I hope it's old ones that we didn't get like Max. (period) and Paranoia -Respect-.

Well I think we should stop hoping for Max.(period), why do we need THIS Konami Original? I don't think it sound so great. But we do need Paranoia Respect, yet I'd prefer having a new song than that since I played it already enough at the arcade or on Stepmania.

Now that I read this, I have to say that I'm still surprised that a song from Juanes is included in the game. I didn't expected it.
