Yeah, they're almost like DDR players in the US, except they get over-protective of charts with a bigger number Post-It note'd onto them.

Dave & Buster's confirmed that A20 WILL be a software upgrade at some point in the future.
Sure, we already knew that, but it's nice to have official confirmation.

Kevin's replies in that thread also strongly hint at D&B ordering additional DDR machines which is awesome.
This aligns with what I heard from people on Facebook, including someone who works at a D&B location. He said that any D&B location with a Pump DX cab is tossing it and replacing it with a DDR cab. Presumably a white cab, but maybe a gold cab, not exactly known yet.

Slighty unrelated but what do you guys think of the lack of any BEMANI crossovers (aside from the 50th Anniversary songs and HinaBitter stuff)?. Honestly I like that the songlist has mostly original songs, I feel most of them have been amazing and I really feel this mix has had its own identity without songs from other games (though we haven't had any crossover again yet so that could change possibly)

But will they are installing in an outdated AC board? (Windows XP embedded) or replace the AC board per a Type 5? (Windows 7)Dave & Buster's confirmed that A20 WILL be a software upgrade at some point in the future.

This I don't like
I'm ecstatic. My local D&B's DX cab is in awful condition to the point where I never even go there anymore, so I'm glad they're finally trashing it and replacing it with a new machine. Sure, a Pump LX cab would have been preferred, but a new white / gold DDR cab is good too.

Our local DnBs PIU cab got thrown out about 6 months ago because it wouldn't even turn on. So if we get a second ace cab, no complaints there.

Wait, hold tf up. Are you guys saying that there's about to be hundreds of PIU games tossed in the trash or in a warehouse somewhere?
Time to go dumpster diving.

Maybe. Not entirely sure. I was told that the one at my local D&B is getting trashed. Presumably because it's old as fuck, and the speaker system is almost completely broken.

That would be a huge change of direction for them. I heard the Springfield, VA location had their DDR machine removed in favor of Pump because it didn't have an online subscription fee. (They previously had both.) I'd be surprised if they took out good condition Pump cabinets to put in Ace machines.
But some of the other DNB pump machines are total shit, hopefully they get replaced with shiny new Ace/A20 cabinets.

Yep, my local D&B's pump cab is in awful condition (really only the sound system, it barely works) and is still on a half-updated Prime1. Allegedly it's being trashed over the summer and replaced with a DDR cab in September.Post #1193 · Posted at 2019-06-05 07:46:06pm 6 years ago

I expect both to be moved to Windows 7 sooner rather than later.
I agree because Microsoft dropped service for it on 4-8-14 if I remember correctly.

So is there ANY word on a patch enabling Premium for gold cabs in the US?

As long as the gold cabs are running the Japanese version, Premium will be locked out. Konami won't make a patch specifically for Japanese machines running in the US (otherwise the other Bemani games, which have been J versions for years, would have gotten something at some point).
As for something to convert the gold cabs from J to U, who knows. But A20 doesn't even have releases for regions outside of Japan announced, so we'll likely have to wait for that before anything else happens.

You know what I mean. A patch changing the game over to U.
Seems awfully odd that they'd go all-in on DDR A and make a (nearly) fully-fledged release in the US, and then just not do that for the next version.
If I had to guess, I'd say that they'll release a patch changing J -> U alongside the patch to update Ace white cabs to A20.

That Reddit thread linked earlier heavily implies a full US release of A20. Round1 probably just didn't want to wait, and they don't have to.
I'm not sure how they would patch the Round1 gold cabs. It should just be a few lines of code changed, but they probably couldn't just send the update through e-Amuse unless the US Round1s are on a different update system than the rest of the Japanese cabs.

I'm gonna guess they'll swap HDDs to the US version, when that comes out for gold cabs. Either way, I'm happy we won't have to cope with a Paseli paywall for that much longer (though you might wanna get your toes went on those Vocaloid/misc. Asia-exclusive songs while you still have the chance. )

NAOKI's style largely consisted of rushed arrangements of the same template because he was given so much work to do and so little time to carry it out. His "signature sound" started to really blur together 4th Mix to SN, so much so that when other musicians came in to arrange his works in later mixes their versions seemed to adhere to NAOKI's bland soundbank that was exhausted and sounded hackneyed back in 2003. Gotta Dance would not be out of place in 5th Mix. And don't get me wrong, I am hesitant to undersell the immense amount of work NAOKI did for the series and how he basically soundtracked the games for several years, but the man only had so many ideas. The first time I heard INSERTiON and ECSTASY I could scarcely tell them apart. They have the exact same note progressions. It is so blatant that those two tracks started out as the same composition. Say what you will about the man, but he was quite the sonic economist.
At any rate, complaining that all modern EDM sounds the same and then promptly praising NAOKI for having a "style" is a really efficient way to flatten any credibility you previously possessed. I think it is plainly clear that NAOKI tried putting more craft into his work and generally tried harder than the average Zedd or Martin Garrix, but labeling rushed work as a "style" seems like nostalgic revisionist history.

I thought his HP tracks were nice & distinct in their own way from pre-SN mixes, but I see what you mean too.

Judging by a stream I watched of Museca getting converted to that BishiBashi game, Konami actually doesn't use HDD swaps anymore. They used a bootable USB drive to reimage the internal mSATA SSD.
