It’s meant to be a tribute song, similar to Tohoku EVOLVED. The song says the following phrase near the end: “Remember those who have fallen. Stay safe.” The DDR XX -STARLiGHT- theme will also soon have an update to replace the “CLEARED” message with “PRAY FOR ALL” when this song is played.

Commentating that our announcement is insensitive without reading into it first is what I would call judging a book by its cover. What needs to be understood here is that the song was planned to pay respects to everyone affected and fallen by the virus and to give people a reminder to stay safe, the same way Konami released the EVOLVED series to reference cities affected by disasters. The whole Stay-At-Home Challenge event was planned for this song as the finale to both encourage playing at home whenever possible and to give people a reward for actually participating in our little event - a level 19 stepchart on Challenge, something that got asked by several users throughout the development of this project.

I have listened to the song, and I'd appreciate if you didn't assume I was just judging a book by its cover. I think it's way too on-the-nose and corny as a tribute - I'd have no issue at all with it if it wasn't for the sampled news reports and sirens. Tohoku EVOLVED was a respectful tribute and it didn't need any samples to accomplish that.

My post wasn't necessarily directed at you, Silver Spirit, for you weren't the one that wrote that the whole thing was insensitive. Anyway, I respect your opinion that the song sounds corny. However, I don't understand what makes Tohoku EVOVLED necessarily more respectful if said song also used sirens and just didn't have news reports all over it.

Because the song is called Tohoku EVOLVED and the artist name is 2.1MB underground. They didn't call it MASSIVE EARTHQUAKE (9.0 Dub Mix) by The Natural Disaster Bros. I get that the intentions are good but the name choice is horrendous.

If I remember DDR did not emphasize that EVOLVEDs were about natural disasters, It just leave it to the interpretation of the fans.
In this case you could put a title in reference to COVID but not emphasizing that it is the disease.
