I'm a bit confused as to how bidding works. So if you get to be the highest bidder on a particular song, are you locked into receiving that song until someone outbids you? Does that mean that your highest bid is the only one that actually counts?

Pretty much. Your bids are addressed from highest to lowest. Once you hold the highest bid on a simfile, the smaller bids are ignored until someone outbids you.

That said, paperpeach, there are still good reasons to place those smaller bids. For one, they increase the price that others would need to pay to get those songs (giving you an advantage in $), and they give you something to fall back on if you are outbid on your top choice (especially important as we get closer to the deadline and you have less time to respond to others' bids).

Actually, they only raise the price others would need to pay if you do not have the highest bid on the song you wanted most. If you already hold the highest bid on a file you bid $X on, the bids where you bid less than $X are ignored, and don't factor in at all.

Oh, okay! That explains why I only see each username once on the spreadsheet. I thought that nobody had placed more than one bid so far! Well, the fallback reason still applies.

Announcement:
I am thinking of changing the amount people would pay from Next Highest Bid to Next Highest Bid +1. This seems to make more sense to me, and after thinking about it, there seems to be no problems with it.
In the event of a tie for Highest Bid (ie Next Highest Bid = Highest Bid), the amount paid would be simply equal to the Next Highest Bid.
The reason for this change is because it makes sense that the bid should be the lowest possible bid only one person bidding would afford. For example, if Alice's maximum bid is $5 and Bonnie's is $10. Bonnie should get it for $6 rather than $5, since Alice would still be able to pay $5, but not $6.

Yeah, that makes more sense that it's +1 because it's more real life like, I support the notion completely.

Ok, the +1 rule has been implemented. Right now, 17 of the 18 users who bid have a simfile. If you do not have a simfile, make to send in your bids, or otherwise a skeleton will be chosen for you at random.

Question. Can we step a song for our own packs or are all the cuts exclusively to Simfile Tycoon? There's more than just one song I would love to make a chart for but I thought I would ask to make sure it's ok.

Yes, that's okay, but you should probably ask for permission from the maker of each cut that you want to step, which becomes revealed at the end of the bidding period. However, we aren't asking the maker of the song if we can use their song in the first place, so it's your call.

I give permission for anyone to use anything I submit to this as long as credit is given (as usual).

Also giving permission to use whatever song cuts I make. That goes for every song cut I've ever done, including past simfile contests. If you see something you want to use, just use it. Credit would be nice if you want to give credit but I don't really care otherwise. Just don't go submitting any of my old song cuts to this contest, that's just lazy.

Going back on this, I give permission for anyone who uses any cuts I have to create their own charts for their own purposes. With many of my cuts being used in a school project I'm working on, though, I have a request of my own- If it's alright with the stepchart maker, could I use one of the charts as a little bonus edit chart on the original file as a part of my project? This isn't a big thing, but you can let me know if it's okay.
