"TAKING IT TO THE PIE" |
Come on guys, DDR AC is only in trouble outside of Japan. In Japan/Asia, the release is pretty good. There's a lot more unlocks than in Supernova 2, the return of edit data, new mods, new charts for old songs (don't forget the prize charts), XMixes, more character. Etc. etc. The only negative factors of this mix, imo are:
-The horrid release outside Japan/Asia (huge problem)
-No real surprises
-Announcer
The song cuts do suck but it's already been determined it was out of Konami and/or benefit to try and retain BeForU, amongst other, songs. If they can get their act together and make X playable outside of Japan, then it could be pretty sweet, especially of they finally bring edit data.

After analyzing the arcade data for DDRX there are no more unlocks. Sorry guys.
As in, rather than install unlock codes to put in as an emrgency precaution like SN2, they just went ahead and removed all the songs from the machine with no intention of non-emuse players ever seeing them?
I think Bolt-Edge said it best

As for "no real surprises", if Konami truly wanted surprises (which there still were with the extra unlocks, e.g. Wii songs), they wouldn't have tried to make last fall's CS release a counterpart to the next AC mix. SN came around in summer 2007 and SN2 came around the same time the CS version did, so clearly the rate of AC releases was much slower. They had to have known this gap would occur, so they made sure to add bonuses, if you will, to the AC. It's a pretty sweet machine in Japan, and if it weren't for the Betson/Raw Thrills drama, there would be a positive attitude towards this mix in the US as well.
Also, if you think about it, the stepcharts' being revealed months before the AC release gives you time to practice the charts on the PS2 or on SM. With the previous two, you had no choice but to spend tens of dollars clearing OMES, but with this, it was possible to keep that number low. And hey, the guessing game never stopped.

Uhm, where in the world did you get that there are no unlock codes? It's not like unlock data is easy to find. I'm sure Brazen meant there are no more unlocks that we don't already know about (the boss songs, and xmixes). Remember, it took 4 months after the appearance of the first SN2 machine before we got the first unlock code. Give it time.

Yeah there will be an unlock system in place, however what I meant was that there won't be anymore new songs/unlocks on DDRX in general that we don't already know about.
If it helps I will look into the unlocking system when I get it 'running'

The America DDRX software contains Music and steps for A Geisha's Dream, Super Samurai, and every japanese unlock inbetween.
The American DDRX software contains Music and steps for End Of The Century as well.
It has a formatted parititon which contains an ID table, but nothing else. We assume is used for future firmware and software updates, such as adding songs through E-Amuse, or adding new songs to the game, without changing the actual software (like Pump It Up Pro Encore)
Edit : There are unlocks we haven't seen yet, as well. I don't know what the spoiler policy is, or if anyone cares, but they've been mentioned in other threads already.

btw, Im not the one who said that, -Viper- is
Anyways, I just think Konami considers e-Amuse as being "premium" users and obviously allows e-Amuse to get all the unlocks first and releases codes later on. That's how they did SN2 and it worked out rather well.

Oh, by far I think the back-end of DDR, the engine, has been refined to the best it's ever been in X. It's just unfortunate that the top layer of the game, the songs and their presentation, didn't have the appeal or allure of mixes past. There were races and challenge to be the first in the world to see some aspect of SuperNOVA and SuperNOVA2; in X, there's nothing that we haven't all seen before, so there wasn't any race to be the first to do something (well, there were the X-Specials, which was a good way to create some quick suspense without much effort, but that's not going to float another mix). Plus, BEMANI artists, etc., we've all heard it before.

XMix 4 and XMix 5 are on the machine - they're probably future unlocks
Silver Dream isn't on the machine.
There are 454 songs on the machine, total. End Of The Century, the 2 missing Dynamite Rave remixes, and all of the DDRX USA CS songs are on the machine, but edited out of the actual game code.

So with a little editing/hacking could it be possible to have the CS exclusive licenses playable?
(Does it also mean that they seriously tried to get EVERY license from X US onto the AC version?)

The How to Play and the new Dynamite Rave mp3 are already uploaded in the simfile section
Under DDR X AC catagory
On a side note: Still lacking the Japanese HOW TO PLAY.....

That's really strange that Xmixes 4 and 5 aren't unlocked yet. I wonder if they're going to be unlocks or will be CS-exclusive. Only 5 wii crossover songs, what a disappointment... maybe next time around there'll be more.

I don't think DDRX will be reverse-engineered, to add new songs to it. The data is all packed and encrypted. It would take a ridiculous ammount of effort, and that effort would probably be better spent making Stepmania emulate DDRX, rather than making DDRX emulate Stepmania.
I think there are only 7 licenses in DDRX USA CS that aren't in DDRX AC. As I said, they're all on the machine, but aren't programmed into the game. The data may not actually be complete, anyway.

There might be more. I've only looked at the directory listing of the HD, but it looks like Alan has already torn it to shreds, to get a ridiculous ammount of cool stuff out of it. He'll be able to tell what's left to unlock pretty quickly, by opening the XWB files, and just listening to what's there.
I imagine he's already done that, though, since he's got Dynamite Rave W and How To Play?

The 454 songs on the data is cos they didn't prune out the songs they deleted in-game from SuperNOVA2.

So....
Remember way back when DDR X was announced and the am-net article said that future DDRs would have 1.5x new songs?
If we assume the from CS counts as new songs here (I'm assuming they do, because Konami stated that there would be 60+ new songs in SN2 AC, and SN2 doesn't have that many new songs unless you count the ones from CS), that would be about 110 new songs at a minimum.
So if we assume 50 new-to-DDR songs in the next AC game, that leaves us with 60 songs. Take the 20 KOs to appear in DDR '09. and that brings us down to 40.
Between the JP and US Wii games, there's about 60 KOs. Minus the five that were put into X and the Lesson By DJ songs and a few odd songs and you'd be at 50.
So it could be possible that Konami would transplant the DDR '09 songs and most of the Wii KOs in the next AC release. Wishful thinking maybe, but I think with NAOKI as the producer it could happen.
I guess we'll find out in a few months when the next AC game in announced. Based on past patterns, I'd expect locations tests within a few weeks of DDR '09's release. The rule has generally been three months after the previous AC is fully unlocked, location tests are held, which would place the next game's location tests somewhere in mid-November.
