Enjoy your game missing nearly 15% of its new entry's songlist.
Oh, and for those of you who said "but there are so many songs to catch up on from X2"; what do you think I played for the near two years this game has been out to unlock other songs? I played everything I wanted to when I caught up. And I don't feel like re-playing older songs I played in earlier DDR games I've played literally over dozens of times in the past 16 years I've been playing this game.
I'd take the recent licenses over the Tokimeki Idol stuff any day.

Maybe broaden your tastes a little bit. Sure these Tokimeki Idol songs aren't that great, but their charts are ok. I use to dislike Vocaloid but I've since then warmed up to it. And I don't mind touhou and Hinabitter anymore. I understand not many of you like these songs, but they're added bc this is a japanese game. Plus maybe they'll get added one day in another release

Do people actually think DDR is full of weeb music only now and not always?
I love this thread.

tbf, when you look at the first 4 main mixes, there really isn't much in the way of Japanese music, instead focusing on electro, R&B, and pop for the originals and Eurodance and big-in-Europe songs for the licenses. It wasn't until 5th MIX that both sides started to incorporate more into a Japanese style, with Originals like Sana Mollete ne Ente, Mr. T, Dive, and Matsuri Japan, along with Licenses like Romance no Kamisama, Odoru Pompolokin, and the English covers of Hot Limit and 17 Sai.

Early games had more western-influenced songlists, so it's easy to think why people think nowadays DDR is catered towards anime fans

Okay, I will and I'll probably enjoy it way more than 99% of the licenses that you guys are constantly getting your panties in a twist over.

Okay, then move to Japan/Asia and play Ace there. I don't know what else to tell you.

I like how I'm being attacked on this forum for just wanting what literally any other version of DDR A except the U.S. and Europe have.
Hey, remember when Konami didn't allow us to unlock the New Generation songs for weeks because...they didn't? Or didn't allow us to access the FLOOR INFECTION songs in DDR A for months for no reason?
Also, Konami has made whole games of DDR consisting of nothing but J-POP barely a year into the series' lifespan.

none of them were arcade titles however, and most of them were obscure
also we got the songs in the end didn't we, the floor inflection songs were an error and the new generation event was hard to do since there aren't that many iidx locations in the us

I can't agree entirely, earlier games did not have that much j-pop or japanese music in general, and it took a while for mixes to consist of a decent amount of japanese music. something like 5th or 6th mix feels like where you see it start to take that turn, and EXTREME really brings in a lot more of those j-pop tracks, then it grew from there. Still, it's a given that a japanese game will have a healthy dose of japanese content, anyone not expecting that is foolish.
----
It is unfortunate that the west misses out on a decent amount of content, however there's really not a whole lot that can be done to change that. I'm content to wait until it comes overseas, and in the meantime playing those songs on StepMania at home. Not expecting everyone to feel the same way, but frankly i'm not one for complaining endlessly about something I can't possibly control. We'll get it eventually.

Um, Dreams Come True and True Kiss Destination were absolutely arcade titles:

The first DDR games to have speed mods and go 60 frames per second seem like big firsts to me.

Looking back, I don't even know why I pandered to those that didn't want Touhou/anime songs, but I just thought that it ironically would have fit with the idea of avoiding more license-heavy songs. In a perfect world, all DDR A players could access all the songs, and at that point it would boil down to just being happy with what's available and accepting the songs that you don't like. Then again, based on how some people are acting, I feel like the concept of a "perfect world" seems incredibly subjective and I honestly don't think I care anymore. Even if we remove Konami's licensing restrictions, DDR fans would just act like the Sonic community and split entirely because a Sonic game had Green Hill Zone again.
Anyway...I do want to say that after seeing the new charts, I can say that I would in fact like them to get localized. When you look at songs like "Rinnetensei" and "Role-playing game", you get this sense that Konami doesn't want to just pander to otakus, but also support the highly skilled players. In that case, not having those songs means you end up screwing over players like Iamchris4life and Fungah from having some more fun 14+ level songs. I won't be their mouthpiece for stuff like this, especially if their alternative ends up being busy PFC/MFCing whatever's left on their list. Regardless, I highly doubt they would regret taking on a new challenge or two.
But yeah, I don't know what else I can say. I don't dislike these Touhou/anime songs by most accounts and I can definitely tell that once those songs would get released, it ends up becoming difficult to replace those songs with ones less intensive on licensing.
I could wrestle through what really goes on with licensing in general, but it just feels like one giant headache to me. I really don't trust Konami's word on any of this, but I don't think I trust myself either...at least in the knowledge department. All I know is that businesses like Konami should acknowledge that they are working for the consumers and avoid practices that divide the audience and provide less than what is expected. Hence that was why I stuck with the idea of avoiding songs that couldn't be brought to Europe and the US. Obviously now is now the right time for that, but I think Konami should have a better game plan than this in the future.

Waiting patiently for Endymion and Ace for Aces to be more accessible.
