This is very gimmicky and hard for a 15.
I don't think "gimmicky" means what you think it means.Yeah. Doesn't gimmicks mean tricks, stops, pauses, ect.?
The most common definition I've heard for "gimmicks" is "something overused to make a chart hard".
I personally don't agree with that, since by that definition you could define Horatio as gimmicky because "it overuses drills", or even on the bounce as gimmicky because "It's an EES song that sounds like it should have speed changes/stops but actually doesn't".

I think of a gimmick as when something does a cheap trick to get your attention when it's not really needed.
Pluto Relinquish's 800BPM sections for example.

Just because something is a "gimmick" doesn't always mean it's a bad thing. You could say 16th notes and streams can be overused even for a perfectly good stream song.

Gimmicks can add a sense of "personality" to a song, as they can make certain songs more memorable and sets itself apart from the crowd. But often times, gimmicks are overused and artificially inflates difficulty.
400BPM in itself is a speed gimmick, because no "real" music has a BPM of 400, ever. So 3/4 of Pluto Relinquish is actually gimmicky. I'd say that anything above 250BPM probably uses the double-BPM gimmick.

Gimmicks are usually that^ but it's nice to see good usage like in Sunkiss Drop, Sumidagawa, and Twinkle Heart
. As for Go For the Top, I give it a thumbs up for those stops and that slowdown, although I'm not really digging the speedup. B2U and Paranoia got great charts as well

I think double-speed gimmicks are akin to "cut time" in sheet music; it's not strictly necessary but it decreases the number of sixteenth notes that physically appear on the page, making it easier to physically read. For example, something like Max 300, if transcribed to sheet music, might be written at 150 bpm cut time, so that there are still actually 300 quarter notes per minute, and the streams are still eighth notes. In this way I don't really think of it as a gimmick.
Personally, I've always classified "boss songs" into three distinct categories:
1) True Boss Songs - Must be red-colored and rated 10/15+ on
.
Examples: All five/six Legend Road songs, Paranoia Survivor, most ES/EES songs since SN1 (but not all).
These charts are usually hard for the sake of being hard, and tend to less resemble an actual "song".
2) Pseudo-Boss Songs - Red-colored or ES/EES exclusive, but not rated 10/15+ on
.
Examples: Candy*, Kakumei, DDR (the song), Trip Machine Survivor, Maximizer, Pluto, On the Break, Saber Wing, on the bounce, the three RDA 14s, Amalgamation, LitPR
Arguably, every song that was made into an X-Special except the Max trio should fall here, because they were the grandfather of boss songs before they were made. So the original Paranoia, Trip Machine, Afronova, Healing Vision, HVAM, etc. are also Psuedo-Boss Songs.
3) Boss-Level Songs - Rated 10/15+, but not red or ES/EES exclusive.
Examples: bag, Xepher
, AM-3P Chaos Special, B4U Voltage Special, I'm so Happy
, Zeta, Vanessa, MEI, Sumidagawa Karenka
, Flower
, and now most of the new KAC songs.
These tend to sound more like "actual songs", except that their rhythm allows for very hard charts. I'm guessing that most people want charts like these, as they are rarely hard just for the sake of being hard.
(In my opinion, a song would only need to meet the above requirements once in any game to qualify, such as bag which is no longer a 15+ but remains a boss-level song. Also, sometimes a song can change categories, such as 888 and deltaMAX which changed from a boss-level song to a true boss song once their titles turned red in DDR II.)

"AeronPeryton" yes u miss one more thing..
- 2ndMIX mode of "DDR X3" has no "STEP BATTLE SONGS"
- "STRICTLY BUSINESS" is gone forever since "DDR 3rdMIX PLUS"
- "Stomp to my beat" "JS1B" is not yet fixed in ASIAN version
- same as "KUNG FU FIGHTING" "BUS STOP CARL DOLGLAS" which should be "BUS STOP featuring CARL DOUGLAS"

From what i've seen, I regret mentioning the term "gimmicks" at any point. Clearly that was a terrible idea.

I'm pretty sure we were talking about 2ndMIX Mode specifically.
To draw up a list:
- STRICTLY BUSINESS, straight up missing.
- HERO, using the X-edit music and steps (without Freeze Arrows).
- Stomp to my beat, banner typo (JS1B, fixed).
- KUNG FU FIGHTING, banner typos ("featuring" is missing & CARL DOLGLAS).
- Dancing characters using X3's routines making them tiny or off the screen.
- Other UI glitches.
- X announcer pokes in during some of the menu transitions.
Did I miss anything? Some of these are just weird. Yes they fixed Stomp to my beat's banner... but that's it. It makes it seem like JS16 sent an angry letter to Konami about it and that's what it took to actually give a care and correct it.

"TAKING IT TO THE PIE" |
On the topic of gimmicks. Gimmick isn't really being used properly here. The idea of gimmicks when people talk about charts is using any method to increase the difficulty of a chart that is not primarily rhythm based. People also call this "artificial difficulty". Once again, it's assumed difficulty of a chart comes solely from the rhythm and pattern of the song. Speed changes, pauses, freeze arrows, shock arrows, etc. are all integral parts of the game at this point. They're not solely used to put attention on any specific song/chart. They don't add "artificial" difficulty. The difficulty is REAL. Being able to read a chart, time a pause and handle a speed change are part of the game play mechanics of DDR.
Then what is a gimmick? Gold Rush having 3 versions with the same chart would be a gimmick. It changes nothing about the particular song, the chart isn't modified, it's just a way to draw attention to that song. Note skins can be considered gimmicks. Look at PIU: It has charts that use gimmicks all over the place, that is aspects that are not found any other place in the game series. We've had many songs at this point that use "tricks" to add difficulty to a song. But they're not artificial: they truly do make the chart harder to play. But like I said, people have try to reduce DDR to simply hitting arrows to a rhythm when there's more to it (remember, DDR is a VIDEO game, your eyes are involved).

What causes all this is just people defining gimmicks differently. Now if you guys want to define what a gimmick is rigorously for a universal definition that everyone will agree upon, I suggest taking it to another place. Is that fine?
On topic of that, Konami Asia finally updated the rankings for KAC. Every player whose records were wiped due to the double registration issue have their scores restored and now supposedly we can unlock the 2ndMIX remixes hassle free.
So I guess everything is resolved for KAC Asia.

oh my god the gimmick thing was dead why why why why why why why did you have to chime in and bring it back nobody cares what anyone thinks about it
So what are the chances of seeing a location test for a new DDR by the end of the year? Been almost a year since X3 released. Of course, they'll let this new content run its course for the next month.

Not really. Konami Asia should make e-AMUSEMENT GATE available for Asia. This request/wait has been too long since Top Ranker era.
