I think just extending each voting deadline one week for each round is the simplest solution

Throw me in there as well, hopefully I'll have time to meaningfully participate.
The extended week is a good way of handling all the files (especially since its just voting out of 10 - meaning it doesn't matter what grouping the songs are in), the only issue I would see coming up is how it might conflict with the next week's files. You could start the next week later but the summer tournament is already a marathon so idk how good it would be to having a possibly unknown longer run time. Your call tho.
Still really sorry about last year, at least you all can learn from my mistakes. I'll be on my best behavior, promise!
I'm #20177 btw - see, i even saved you a click :^)
Good luck everyone!

UPDATE 6/5/2021
As we're one day away from the first theme being announced, we have decided on a few things regarding the Summer Contest...
I don't like the two-group rule. Why don't we extend the voting deadline?
While there are some who supported the two-group rule or suggested Best-Mix style divisions, there has been another idea proposed: extending the voting deadline to TWO weeks after submission. The agreement on this is unanimous, so starting now, voting deadlines will be pushed back a week.
This should allow contestants to look at every simfile, especially with the X/10 rule in play here. This also accounts for any real life events or conditions that should get in the way of a voter's schedule.
There are some points that are still in discussion: since voting deadlines are being extended, voting periods may overlap as themes would still be announced weekly. Not only that, but this will also delay the VIP room into Autumn. We'll leave this for you to debate on.
I think we should stick to the traditional 15-point distribution method. Why do we have to play every single simfile?
There are still contestants who support the 15-point distribution method and find the X/10 distribution method tedious. The X/10 distribution method is still recent, implemented since the end of the previous Summer Contest (Tower of Immortals, to be exact). It's only a year old, while the 15-point distribution method was established for 11 annual contests straight, and then some. Not only that, but we are having contestants from older Summer Contests as well, and they may find the new rules a bit jarring.
The X/10 point distribution will remain amendable as we continue to discuss this, but we only have a week to do so as the first 2 week voting period would start the Sunday after the next. I would hate to change any rule, voting or otherwise, while the contest is in progress.
These past two years have been experimental since Summer Contest 2019. As ownership has switched and newcomers arrived, there have been amends to traditional rules to accommodate for new step-artists and newbies to the series, much like with the current DDR franchise. The point is to not "fix" what has happened last year, but to set the standards for next year. Whatever mistakes we make, the hosts of next year may take note of and learn from.
I have put up a poll on what the voting system would be for this Summer Contest. The link is right here:

We'll see you tomorrow with the first theme of the week!

tl;dr version: Playing all files was a rule last time I checked.
The long version-- Allow me to provide an analysis on each voting method:
This may look biased towards being in favor of X/10 but in all honesty I couldn't find other positives of the traditional method assuming playing all simfiles is a rule that was consistently implemented.
In fact, I'm actually surprised people have been not playing all files even with the traditional system in place, as someone who consistently made sure to play all files in at least the most played difficulty (
/
if applicable). I didn't mind the tediousness of going through all files at all until last year where the participants increased (thankfully voting is two weeks now)-- this is a contest where the author that makes the best files wins.
Also, it's weird why having to play every single simfile is brought up as an issue. Is this the main reason why people want the traditional system back? IIRC this was a rule when Pandy was hosting the contests and not playing everything is unfair to other authors that possibly deserve places in the VIP rounds.
The long version-- Allow me to provide an analysis on each voting method:
Traditional:
Pros:
- Can boost a certain file further into the standings by giving scores of 4-5.
Cons:
- Ideal for contests with ~20 files with only 15 points to distribute. HMs may be not enough to recognize good files that still deserve points.
- May rob more deserving files (i.e., those that get HMs and are often mentioned as good files)
- While IIRC there was a rule in place that all files must be played, this can be easily abused by only playing a few files and then submitting just a portion of the ones played that do get votes.
X/10:
Pros:
- Results look like people have played all files.
- Each file gets points.
- No file is limited to honorable mentions for those "okay files" or files that could not fit within the 15-point system
Cons:
- Ensures playing every file
- One low score on a file given high votes by everyone else (and vice versa) may substantially skew the votes (especially for generally undeserving files that make VIP or robbed files that should've made VIP; this was an issue in the past Battle Royale but I believe there's an outlier system in place now if we're still going with X/10)

Hey, everyone! Welcome to the Z-I-v Summer Contest 2021! Daff_4K (or Daff) here. In case you didn't know, I'm the host for this year's Summer Contest (alongside with TonyAkita) (and this is the 2nd time I hosted Summer Contest after I hosted them in 2018). And now, I think it's the good time for this year's Summer Contest to begin. I'm looking forward to all of your submission (and without drama, of course)!
Okay, so... Let's begin with Week 1 theme! Since this is the beginning of the Summer Contest, let's begin with something easier for the warmup!

Week 1 theme is...
Step a song that related to summer!
What, summer? Daff. Explain it.
Lemme explains about the theme!
- Step a song that's related to summer (either on the title of the song, or the song itself).
- For example: Summer, beach, sunny weather, hot weather, fire (actually fire are synonymous with summer since fire are pretty common on that season!), etc.. As long as anything related do summer.
I think that's all for the rules. Pretty simple, right? If you had a question and/or some clarifications, ask on this thread, or shoot me a PM!
In case you didn't know, here's the link for the category below.

Good luck, everyone!

These are placeholders, you can use a placeholder to let others know that you are charting that song. It can be used to prevent dupes
