Thank y'all for the love on the Gangnam Avenue! I honestly didn't expect it do that well when there were so many damn good files, so this was a super pleasant surprise. Maybe there's hope for sub-9 footers after all.

Not my intention, but sorry if it came out that way. I've been trying to make sure it's been fun this contest and not take things seriously to the point of being aggressive or anything.

I could say the same in regards to preference. There have been many entries in this contest that won me over surprisingly, such as Lion Eddie, Touch My Body, and Crow (usually I'm pretty meh when it comes to Bemani and pop entries, and even more so to simfiles that try to be like older DDR mixes). Then there are those that won that I just never really got into even though the next week a similar entry pops up and I like that one. It's strange.
As for not fitting the song, it varies. Very much preference here for sure, given there is no set way to chart specific genres. Then again, coming from Pump, I am kind of used to seeing harder-than-necessary charts.

I'm guilty of similar genres but it is most certainly due to coincidence, not because I'm playing it safe. I'm awful when it comes to song selection so pinning down specific themes helps me focus on certain songs instead of opening up my large library and struggling to pick a song. I don't think they are necessarily derivative of each other (especially true for me, the closest to that is Paripi Princess because I wanted something akin to Fire Fire for it), just a coincidence if that happens.
For me, crossovers are fun as hell so I add them all the time. The only time I held back a lot was China Dress, and Tikal added more than I did in that chart. The other times it is simply because I want them.
And I'm all for pushing boundaries. Simfiles that have split timing, scrolls, speed changes, attacks, more than five charts, and alternate audio tracks will probably win me over more than anything else, but it isn't always a guarantee either.

Sadly, the lower difficulties are where I experiment more, and it's something I've been doing since the Battle Royale this year. Disheartening too, but for some of my votes this contest many won me over with the lower charts while there have been times a simfile I thought was alright on one difficulty ended up having a lower difficulty that was just the same with some notes removed and thus affected my vote. If you weren't going to put effort into those just don't include them?

Literally every entry of mine I thought would not get many votes... except Worker Bees. Every other file of mine has made top ten in votes and out of those only one did not make top 5. I definitely know why that is the case for that particular song and will readjust it sometime, but still kind of... odd.

Anyway, I'm bad at explaining things.

apparently my long as shit file names don't let it load in stepmania (is working on my end, however this was a concern I had given the nature of the character limit), so I reuploaded it with shorter filenames in a custom zip, please redownload if you already did, or download that custom zip if you haven't downloaded it yet.

I got in VIP with only one file. I'm not counting the file in the week I failed to vote for.

... I can't believe it.

I don't know how but all I know, even though it was statistically improbable, is that I've been blessed despite missing almost every week.

I may not have gotten into Vowels but the good news is now I have 14 days to finish my file for that week instead of potentially rushing it. I'll probably employ it for the first VIP round.

@DigitalBasic--point by point:

1) No worries, I just wanted to make sure there was no bad blood and make my intentions clear. The social anxiety and paranoia in me jumped out.

2) Yeah, I guess you're right that steps "fitting" a song is more of a preference thing, I suppose. One person could very well think it works while another doesn't. I think part of the reason I'm so adamant about songs mirroring their respective steps is because I've been treating simfiles like English essays since like 2015 or something. I know that sounds whack but if you read my spiel about Egoist, you'll understand But again, I can't expect everyone to think it's that deep.

3) Ahh, I understand. Personally, I know if someone mentions when posting their file that they're particularly proud of one of their lower difficulty charts, I'll take a look at it out of curiosity, and I'm sure others would to, so hopefully some of y'all can make a mental note of that.

4) OK yeah you and Gameoson mentioned that, and I've had the same experiences this year already, so I guess it just goes to show you gotta step for yourself first and foremost.

In a way, making simfiles really is just like an English essay. Right down to the part where everyone has different writing styles and everyone is going to have a billion different opinions on what's right and what's wrong. The way I step is also me just trying to mirror the song as best as I can, it's just according to my one interpretation. What might seem arbitrary to you might actually have a significant purpose to me.

...Or not. Crossovers are fun, sometimes I shoehorn them in just because.

So I just noticed that I accidentally uploaded an OGG file instead of a PNG file in the jacket section of my file. Would I be allowed to swap it out as long as I don't reupload the real audio file or the SM/SSC files?
