"Crybabies unite~ ♡"
Something tells me this song runs at a constant 190 BPM and has at least one full measure of 16ths, similar to PARANOiA (kskst mix) Heavy or New Generation Challenge.

I'm gonna be that guy and say.. really? This the the best they could do for a KAC song? The chart is so awkward switching between the vocals and instrumental track. And those drums sound so bad! Totally forgettable.

Wow, this is... really bad. Don't like the song at all (what the hell is going on with the drums???), and the chart looks very overstepped.

I like some parts of the song. It has nice, golden sunset feeling to it. But it's also very cluttered. The drums overpower the song.

Also, it feels like the step artist just left the assist tick on while creating the cart and stepped it based on how nicely the clapping sounded, instead of listening to the actual song. So many unnecessary drills and short gallops.

Also, the whole x00+ steps = automatic level x+10 rating. Why does Konami rate their songs like this now? There's less nuance to how they determine ratings nowadays. What happened to considering factors like stamina, step pattern complexity, etc, instead of just number of notes? I guess New Decade Challenge should be a 15 then, right?

Last updated: 2017-11-30 05:53am
Eh, this mix has been generally light on fast speed crossovers and ridiculous patterns (aside from the 18s), and stamina tends to be reflected in extremely high step counts.

But even with that:
All of the 18's had less than 800 steps this mix.
A couple of the 16's had less than 600 steps.
Hell, a 15 had only 389 steps, a low step record for a 15.

Really, only the 17s have had this trend of all being 7XX step charts, and that's because none of them are crossover-heavy, while all running about ~200 BPM range.

I'm fine with this.

EDIT: That, and aside from the Miku song being over-rated a 16, is there any step rating you find yourself disagreeing with? I think 17 is pretty fair for the new chart.

Actually, yeah, that's fair. I mean, 17's reasonable for this chart (I guess anything 700+, fast, and straightforward is a guaranteed 17.) It'd be nice if they did 16th note run patterns like this at lower bpms, though. A lot of crossovers are introduced into runs as soon as that bpm dips.

Edit: Also, I have a some qualms about the rating system after 15. I feel there are lots of overlap between the 11-14 charts, but as soon as you hit 15+, the difficulty gaps between each level increase exponentially, like some parabolic curve. Even the variety of difficulty within each difficulty level of 15 and above increases (Romancing Layer and TLOM? NGO and IX?)

I've personally seen very little evidence to support that Konami is doing something like this, as wrsw pointed out. Here's what I find:

To this day, the only 18 in the game with 800+ notes is Elemental Creation Challenge on both modes.

There were six 17s added in DDR A; only three of the six have a 700+ notecount (Triple Counter Heavy, 恋する☆宇宙戦争っ!! Challenge, Be a Hero! Heavy ). All three of these are free of speed gimmicks and are longer than two minutes. The other three are somewhat more technically challenging than these. Emera Challenge actually has below 600.

On Single, there were thirteen 16s added in DDR A, if we count the one 2015 Christmas present; just six of the thirteen have a 600+ notecount (打打打打打打打打打打 Challenge, 初音ミクの消失 Challenge, Come to Life Heavy, Illegal Function Call Heavy, Poochie Heavy and S!ck Heavy ). On Double, there were eleven total, with only four having a 600+ notecount (the same list minus Poochie and 打打打打打打打打打打). The only overrated chart from this list for having a high notecount is 初音ミクの消失 Challenge.

As for 15s, a 500+ notecount is extremely common and typically expected at this level, unless the song is short, jumpy, and/or riddled with gimmicks. out of focus Heavy, with its 389(379) notes on Single(Double), is quite a rarity.

I agree for the most part. The 15 difficulty has a bit of a different problem, though; there are lots of 15s easier than a good handful of 14s, and there are lots of 15s harder than a good handful of 16s. This isn't necessarily that problematic if there were 200+ charts in the 15 folder (like the 11 and 12 folders). Unfortunately, we only have 77/83 on Single/Double, with very little to bridge the gap between the ends. I would ideally like to cut this folder into two and blend the large overlaps with the levels around it (on both modes), given the distribution of difficulty within the level.

APPEND: On a side note,

Song is bad. Not awful, but bad. I kinda dig the chart.

Approximately nobody asked for this song to be included. Least popular decision by the Japanese since Nintendo released the Wii U.

Dang that song is terrible. Can't even focus on the chart, I'd never willingly select that. Good luck, KAC participants!

Well, I think the song is better than a lot of the denpa crap we have received over the years and I like the concept of the song. It makes me feel like if this came from DDR Tokimeki MIX 2 or something. And the jacket art gives me some Shine vibes.

And that's all the positive things I have to say. Green Grin

I like the chart a LOT more than I like the song it's attached to.

Which is to say I think the chart is actually really good.

The song, uh, not so much.

The song really doesn't feel good, but the step chart makes it redeemable to a neutral feeling. Looks like today, we should give credit to the chart maker.
It's like an awesome radio, you cannot see, but you can feel it.
