So it's finally VIP3!

Summer Contest 2021 has been a very tumultuous (but rewarding) ride as a stepper for me. I've been telling myself for the last few contests I've participated in that "this would be the last one;" that I would take a break from Zenius. Yet I still feel that I was able to do a lot to further explore my skill in DDR-style stepping this contest.

Week after week, I agonized over what I could do to introduce something novel to the competition... and for the VIP room, that mentality has brought me to an incredibly ridiculous (and tactically insane) proposition: charting a 19 for all three weeks. I thought of it as a last-resort meme at first, but as I worked on my VIP2-3 submissions in tandem I found that I was able to work a satisfying mix of familiar and new concepts into these charts. Through my 3 years of charting, this week and last week's files may as well be the most polished and coherent play experiences I've ever crafted.

Like last week, I included some patterns inspired by my previous contest files:
- Saikyo Stronger (SC2020) / 16th bursts -> crossover jumps / m107, m114-115 in
- Hella Deep (SC2020) / Corner jump + freeze -> U/D -> jump sequences / m86~ in
- Atlantis Hawk (BR2021) / Use of turns between 16th bursts to accent kicks every 4 beats / m44~
- Jelly (SC2021) / Mine + corner jump combinations / m94~ in
- Alismonitos Lethaeus (SC2021) / Doublestep-switches between freezes / m60~ in

With that in mind, please enjoy!

I will likely taking some time away from Zenius (for real, this time) to focus on creating tech/FA content for the time being, but I don't doubt that there's still so much left for me to explore in the realm of DDR customs.

Time signature is mind-blowing, snapping is mindblowing. It's like 1516, but it's Sakuzyo. 1516 offered more mindblowing timesig and snapping though so....

The last file post of a summer contest is always bittersweet...especially when I decide NOT to play it safe and do something ridiculous like this:


I swear I was this close to taking it easy this week, playing in my comfort zone of fun 14s and 15s. Then I got bored and realized, hey, why not make life more difficult for everyone instead???

Fun fact, Zenius won't let you type in a 4-digit BPM. Probably reasonable. But also, the above is simply technical--the bulk of the chart is actually more like 136-300, but come on, who wouldn't want a chance to write something as crazy as that at least once?

Lol, looks like this is my worst Summer Contest finish ever. And I thought I improved so much over 2019 and 2020 But I think that's such a testament to how tight competition has been this year. I guess I should be happy to place this high with three 19s

Congrats to Kex, Forced, Marten and Gameoson for a well-deserved Top 4, and thank you to the hosts for everything this year! The livestreams and Discord server really made things exciting to keep up with every week.

Congrats to everyone in this contest!!! Although I didn't make it to VIP, it was still an incredibly fun time, and I can't wait to participate in future contests :D

And so we come to the end of another Summer Contest...

Apologies for being mostly absent during the VIP round. Not only did I sadly not make it there, but I decided to focus my attention on drawing over chart making. It was honestly relieving to do something I specialize in without the pressures of having to manage and participate in a contest simultaneously.

However, from what I can see, this contest has been quite a success. There were few complaints, there was little to no drama and any problems were taken care of promptly and efficiently, there were some returning faces and even a few new ones, and the competition was overall tight. Seeing how everyone had fun in this contest has left me feeling a little proud to be a cohost and participant in this.

So with all that said, I would like to wish my congrats to Kexmix, our winner of this year's contest and one of the biggest helpers in organizing this with Daff and me. Special thanks also goes to FoRCeDNaTuRe. our runner up by 1 point and another big help to us. Good job to everyone who contributed files to this contest, and I hope to see you next year. I also wish the best of luck to those future cohosts for keeping up the good work!

I may be focusing on the freestyle contest if that will be returning, but for now, I'll be taking it easy, maybe look for other contests to try my hand in. I suggest you do the same and enjoy the rest of Fall and Winter. Work hard, raise money in the peak season, take a break, watch some sports, just be yourself.
