"some clever foot switching and double stepping" -> some kind of very bad moves. This is not the way we should play a song.
And uh...why not? It's a technique, just like crossing over or galloping. One's laziness to learn such techniques should not fall on Konami's shoulders.
There are a couple parts of 300 I didn't like, namely at the beginning and the end, but overall I didn't think it was too bad. I liked Legend of Max outside of couple freeze arrows that just seemed to break the flow. Candy was okay, but I don't like the other two Candy charts either (original heavy and universe oni). Dance Dance Revolution looked incredibly fun and I will make an edit for that to play at home immediately.

You've just described the classic Butterfly spin.

Haha Let's hope Max 300
it's one of those "It looks/sound bad but later on we see that it's not that bad" kind of thing. Kinda of like how they changed the name of Nintendo's system from Revolution to Wii

If you think modifiers are tied to the X-Specials, here's a few combos to try for the 3rd/4th/Solo ones:
3rd Mix = FLAT (remember SSR?)
4th Mix = SUDDEN SHUFFLE (the S4R phenomenon?)
SOLO = RAINBOW REVERSE BOOST (the DDR Solo "waterfall" that was so cool to see back then!)
I do agree, however; MAX 300 is not the song for "butterfly spins." Not every song has to be a "butterfly," KONAMI. And yes, I can imagine coolness potential in something like DROP OUT (X-Special)... the PARANOiAs/TRIP MACHINEs/Healing Vision X-Specials have all been quite decent, regardless of how ridiculous the MAX ones are. ^.^'
(Console version ones either? No SEDUCTION (X-Special) yet?)

I like how Candy and DDR are easy. It kind of recreates the old OMES feeling, where the song is easy but you're nervous as hell of failing.
I thought i was the only one who missed this! I loved the OMES songs being easier than the ES. I was pretty weirded out with SN2 making the OMES progressively harder.
But yeah MAX300 might be so bad that it is actually good.
LOM is okay, but i think the beginning part, before where the steps would begin in the original chart, doesn't really flow that well.
The rest are pretty neat though.

Cheers for the Videos Dr.D, you're an excellent player if you can Sight-Read AAA Candy X-Special (which does look like fun!)
DDR chart looks pretty cool also. LoM's kinda weird, but to be expected (Why is this an 18?, PrO is way harder).
I'll stick with the original Max300 for now, it's hard enough on someone like me already without throwing in crossovers.
Speaking off, why is almost nearly X-Special fill of god dam crossovers. I guess theres no other way to make it hard unless you make it BS.

I can see 75% or more of these "spins" can be avoided with some clever foot switching and double stepping (prior to being forced to execute the spin).
Leaving it up to the player to decide how to double step as needed is poor and lazy step design. There's nothing wrong with using crossovers and spins as long as you're aware of how the player would step it.Quote: Pandemonium X
Max 300 has some unnessaery fezzes here and there. Also has the quick double steps like in trim as well,

LOM: OMG this is awesome. I can complain about it being an 18 when it should be a 15, but overall one of the best X-Specials. 9/10
Same here.Quote
DDR: Another awesome chart. lots of fun fezzes and jumps. Can't wait to play this one. 10/10
Imbalance in difficulty much? It's not as bad as, say, Dreamin', though. I say 8/10.Quote
Candy: Pretty much what I expected. fans of the organal Candy steps will love this. 8/10
The chart felt somewhat pointless. I give it 7/10.Post #4509 · Posted at 2009-03-20 05:29:49am 16.7 years ago

Take your pick. Short 16th streams packed with crossovers with spins between streams, or long 16th streams. Personally, I view the ITG choice of long streams as more fun.Post #4510 · Posted at 2009-03-20 05:34:22am 16.7 years ago

wait, so PARANOiA MAX (dirty mix) ~in roulette~ has been confirmed? can someone get a screenshot or video of this? I'm more excited to see what konami did for this than anything else

I like both, but I prefer DDR's way. It's hard while still vaguely resembling dancing rather than sprinting a mile.
I was thinking and though Max 300 X-Special is downright impossible to do properly, it could be that Konami intends for the player to double step for it. It doesn't necessarily mean it’s a terrible chart or that they don’t know how to place steps. Not my favorite type of chart but maybe Konami's trying to make a different type of fun chart rather than making one where you're expected to hit everything in a perfectly systematic way.
[/benefit of the doubt]

Leaving it up to the player to decide how to double step as needed is poor and lazy step designIt's not poor and lazy, it's giving the player more options on how to execute a particular pattern. Step writers shouldn't always hold the players' hands when it comes to writing charts. Like justoneuncle said above, foot switching is a perfectly legitimate technique, and I find it to be very fun when done properly.

You've just described the classic Butterfly spin.
Except those were 4ths at 130~ BPM, and these are 8ths at 180+BPM.
Doublestepping is not fun.

Yeah I don't like that jack right at the end, but I thought the RLR crossover at 2:06 was clever. Most of the double-steps could be worked through either through blatant whiteboying or foreknowledge (or foot-switching like in DEGRS). I'm not that worried about songs requiring foreknowledge on ES, because that's been a long-running trick from FAXX (i.e. bpm tricks) and similar.Post #4517 · Posted at 2009-03-20 08:12:35am 16.7 years ago

Wonder if Kakumei follows the melody at the beginning and the harmony in the middle. That would be one fun chart!

No, it's not, so stop doing it.
Still no 3rdMIX confirmations? Jesus, the requirements must be quite bs.

...then let's wonder HOW we can get the 3rdMix X-specials
So what made 3rdMix "special"?
