The release might be similar to how they sort of rereleased GITADORA Tri-Boost as Re:Evolve; doing new licenses and events, and some kind of interface overhaul, but still a smaller update than typical "new mixes".
Or DDR A might just be the new sequel series name, and it's a whole new thing. We really don't have enough info to be sure, but I'm just looking forward to the A soundtrack because at least I know what the hell that is.

I really think this would have been called A2 if it weren't for it being the 20th anniversary.

I wonder if this is going to be an entirely new mix with new songs and licenses or just an extension of the current mix. A20 doesn't really imply something completely new.
Maybe it'll be like jubeat's APPEND/fulfill games

I'm also thinking it's a new mix entirely, since as hypnotic said, it probably would've been A2/AA if someone didn't have the idea to try and make it into a play on the 20th anniversary of DDR. So something like Supernova --> Supernova 2 or X --> X2.

Okay so, MAX360 CSP was on the machines at a convention a few weeks ago, and that's not some super private super secret club thing. Why is everyone like "WTFFF MUH SECRET CHARTS???"? I'm surprised it was kept on the down-low for this long.

I dont know why people think this is an append version. SN2, X2, MAX2 were not. A20 would have subtitle in addition to the original name if it was an append mix like Ace PLUS. Not to mention the promotion, considering how much Konami went so far as to make a new cabinet and promotional video. This is also the 20th anniversary, they would not make a measly small append. X was a big game itself.

Probably because it doesn't have a standard sequel numbering at the end of the name.
That said, I do feel like it was made far too big a deal out of to not be a new mix.
Also I think we've run out of topics to talk about at this point, until Konami actually says anything more...

however a20 is pronounced as Ace TWO oh so that meant something, they never said Ace twenty, the zero is tacked on as an nod to the anniversary anyways

Speaking of the cabs: Has it been confirmed that A20 is going to be exclusive to the gold cabinets? Or will it be like Ace and be available on the gold AND white cabs? (I remember reading somewhere that A20 is going to be 100% HD and not compatible with black and red cabs).

The last I heard is that it's going to be a timed exclusive on the gold cabs and then pushed out to white ones as an update. I really hope that has changed.

That would make sense, haven't a lot of previous releases debuted on new cabinets first before upgrade kits/online upgrades were released?

I can't really say I believe that it's a timed exclusive; if it is, it's only going to be for, like, a day.
Keep in mind that new mixes for Bemani titles are now downloaded over the internet instead of having to pay for a new hard drive/upgrade kit a la PIU (they make up for the money via operators paying subscriptions to the eAmusement service I assume), so I'm leaning towards an update being available for all cabinets at the same time (except maybe the original 573 cabinets; I still don't think Konami's gonna fully support that cabinet anymore. >>)

I think that was the case whenever there major hardware changes (eg 573 ---> Python 2 and Python 2 ----> BemaniPC) but I kind of remember Ace being released on everything at once. Anyone who was in Japan or Asia for its initial release, feel free to correct me on that if I have it wrong.

2013 was exclusive to the new white cabs for a week or so.

That would explain why some of the older cabs running the current DDR version around South East Asia got replaced with white cabs... for future-proof purposes.
