So, I finally got a chance to play DDR A today.
...And holy crap I suck at playing in the arcade. Normally I can play multiple 15's and 16's in one session at home no problem, but I ended up failing halfway through Rising Fire Hawk
halfway through the song due to pure exhaustion. I expected my accuracy to be crap since I use SM's default timing windows at home and not the arcade's timing windows, but I don't think I should have gotten that tired on a 14.
Does anybody else have that problem or am I just weird or something?
Meanwhile the guy before me passed True Blue
on Extra Stage like it was nothing. I actually feel kind of embarrassed.
My theory is that your feet will be used to one type of pads, one type of playstyle and one set of timing windows at any point in time. As someone who played ITG3 for nearly three years and then tried DDR A, I really did struggle the first day and got winded on a lot of 13+ charts. I didn't even get a single PFC until my ninth visit. You just have to keep playing this game, and your muscle memory specific to this game should come around in due time....And holy crap I suck at playing in the arcade. Hope you'll have a better day soon!

Yeah, there's a big difference between Stepmania and real DDR. 'Course, when I started playing, I was on a really cruddy Extreme cab here at home- It was quite a while before I managed to clear all three stages! With practice though, I got good enough to clear MAX 300... I had to really work up my stamina to do so then. There's definitely a difference in play with different pads- At home, the pads I borrowed were homemade, and were ultra-sensitive to touch (the arrows were just the sheet metal making the upper half of the switch, nothing else). Meanwhile, at the arcade, not only is the timing funky, you gotta step a bit harder to get those arrows to register. Of course, I think this made the transition to DDR A quite a bit easier, especially once I realized how sensitive the pads were in comparison so I could save energy. On the other hand, I tried an equally-crappy Extreme cab in Bend and couldn't pass 9s. My stamina was fine, I was just tuned to a fresher cab.
I guess my advice is: If you have a cruddy Extreme cab in your area at an arcade that just charges for entry, do some extreme training. (Pun not intended, but pretend it was) Also, you'll kinda get used to everyone around you being better than you are. If you end up without a group using the machine though, you can get some good crowd hype playing 11s and up.

My exams are finally over, and I feel...conflicted. I know I should have studied more and I'm super anxious about the kinds of grades I'll get, but at least I won't have to worry about it anymore. What's done is done, I suppose. I'm just really overwhelmed about this whole ordeal.

That's bad. That's very bad. I know from personal experience how destructive this can be. To quote a good friend of mine, "Depression is worse than The Amazing Spiderman. And you can quote me on that."
I wish there could be something I can do to help... Sometimes these just fade in and out. But please don't do anything stupid, like I have.

As someone who never drank carbonated beverages since 2009, drinking my first glass of beer was pretty difficult. I still finished it fairly quickly. The "bite" was the only thing that kind of bothered me haha.

What kind of beer did you drink? Here in Oregon, we've got craft beer and wine basically everywhere- Coos Bay in particular has this brewery that opened recently and has become something of a community centerpiece. It helps that the food is really, really good.
...Not that I drink beer. I'm 17. Plus I zone out enough that I don't want to know what I'd do if I was tipsier than I already am while sober...
As for carbonated beverages, I avoided those until my early teens. They hurt if it's too much carbonation and you don't get to taste the drink. Then I discovered craft root beer. Apparently that's a thing, and it's really good if you find one. But yeah, that's most of Oregon in a nutshell- Craft beer, blue cheese. and whatever the heck Portland's doing.

On the subject of beer/carbonated beverages, I find it really bizarre that lite beer is popular, mostly because it doesn't taste good and it leaves you wanting more, which you wouldn't feel if you had consumed something more filling and better tasting.
Light beer, the more appropriate spelling, is bad beer. Tastes like pee, looks like pee, everything is bad.

I'm guessing lite beer is popular for the same reason American cheddar, Call of Duty, and annoying pop/rap songs are popular?

My favorite thing is when morons try to act like they're completely and utterly hammered after drinking like two Coors Lights. Like, I'm a self-admitted lightweight when it comes to alcohol, but I can't even feel the slightest bit of tipsiness or anything after drinking that little.

So I just got back from a community service event cleaning up around Highway 101. There was a contest of which of the three schools could pick up the most trash. We were tied with the local community college for a while until we picked up a tire. All in all, it was a surprisingly fun event.

Seconding (or more) the 'light beer is piss with bubbles' argument. If you must have a lighter beer, have a wheat beer like an Erdinger or a Hoegaarden, at least they have flavour to them. My choice of wheat beer is Blanche de Bruxelles, but good luck getting THAT one in America.

Ever drink Select 55? It's like drinking mild tonic water with a hint of piss. Hardly any taste to it. Awful and boring.

It alright. It remind me of me beer, which I like better, but same beer, more or less.
