How many people here actually play Double at that level? I find a lot of people are apt to comment on charts they don't actually know to play.
I'm no expert, my Double scores are pretty bad, but there's nothing terribly wrong with that chart. The stretches are a little out there, the jackhammers are definitely not my thing, but it's nowhere near the level most of the SuperNOVA2 Specials were at. I'm not an avid Double play anyway, so I don't really care, but that chart wasn't bad. Not the sort of thing I find extremely fun, but not a blight on the face of the Earth.

The biggest thing for me right now is the lack of BEMANI material. Currently, the only songs by (known) Bemani artists are SABER WING, by TAG, as well as Wii crossovers from NAOKI. Everything else is either licenses or commissions. Hopefully this changes when unlocks start rolling in (There's a promised Naoki feat. SMiLE.dk song that will be unlocked).
Oh, and most of the new songs on the machine were present on X US CS, so the material is months old by now.
The stepcharts are a step up from SN2 though, and several graphical changes make it cool (SCREEN FILTER, characters now do specific dances).

*raises hand* I'm one of the few here that can play at that level.The chart isn't as retarded as it looks like since people perceive the distance between the two pads to be farther than they actually are.
However, it's not a chart that has the word "fun" in mind and it looks like it was meant to be a pain to AA and FC the song.
The pad crossovers on measure 19 is a very awkward pattern when seen but it's basically having you make a circle around the middle of the two pads.
Measures 35-36 is another case where it looks weird but isn't.
Overall, it seems to me that the guy who stepped D-Heavy of MARS WARS 3 is the same guy that stepped this chart.
....of course, assuming that this is the real X-Edit chart for Doubles.

I do play at that level, well I can do 10's (old 10's, probably 15s-16s now) ... and that chart is really bad, it doesn't look fun at all

that crossover isn't too terribly awkward but it's really tough to sightread and takes a loooot of energy to move you foot from 1-U to 2-D in 1 beat.

Playing is believing; I'll give it a shot when I can.

Well DEGRS followed the song perfectly, the rhythm was great, except the step placement was bad..

I remember in Supernova the double expert steps had a lot of twisty steps across both pads, and a lot of patterns that went away in Supernova 2 doubles (except in some Boss double charts).
Most prominent examples: Star Gate Heaven, Star Gate Heaven (Future Love Mix) and Dynamite Rave (super euro version)
On the whole, doubles steps were a little more complex in the crossovers for expert steps less than 9. (Arrabbiata, Party Lights and the ultra-fun Saber WIng, being some songs that notch up the technical factor without being annoying or random (like Synthesized which i don't get since the singles steps were really good IMHO).
Most prominent examples: Star Gate Heaven, Star Gate Heaven (Future Love Mix) and Dynamite Rave (super euro version)

Dynamite Rave super euro version is like Dam Dariram Heavy in the beginning. You just have to learn it.
And the Star Gate Heaven charts are fun.
Keep in mind that they have more room to make charts for Doubles as they have 8 arrows to work with so it wouldn't be too surprising to see those "now awkward" patterns to pop up in other charts. They're experimenting with the charts and as long as they don't experiment too much in one chart, I'm fine.
