Level 1: Gets you access to Extra Stage, gives out no extra 'stars'.
Level 2: Gives out three extra 'stars' at the end of your session. Helps you a small bit in unlocking songs(?) if you fail.
Level 3: Gives a full bar of 'stars' at the end of your session. Regardless if you fail a song, you (and another player with you if you are playing with a 2nd player) unlocks the songs.
That's my own take on it anyway :v

At least there is now a 20 we can all "clear" with a Marvelous Full Combo! It's a funny glitch, though.
