Hey everyone in Group 1:
If you can't see the song ai·shi·te·ru·yo, please rename the song folder! Stepmania refused to recognize any files inside of it because of its non-ASCII filename.

Week 2: No BEMANI🐧

Oom Zigga / Papa Ya feat. Malcolm Anthony

Oom Zigga is a cheesy little pop/edm track from a few years ago with a weird name. And by some freak accident the second half of the bridge is also the opening run from Valkyrie Dimension. Enjoy!

Hi can I leave comments about a few of the simfiles from my bracket here? Used to be common in stepfile contests in the past. I really enjoyed a number of these but had some feedback I wanted to share. This is all personal viewpoint stuff so none of it is academic critique or whatever no hard feelings if you don't agree with my points.
Profession: Maybe the catchiest song in the whole pack and the steps are really nice and well-considered. A small nit-pick: I would have just left the last note on the downbeat. The sixteenth note doesn't add a lot and as a general rule I try to stay away from ending songs on 16th note beats if possible. Not the end of the world and maybe just a personal preference thing. Still a lot of fun.
Huu Yah Yeah: This was really nice and had a good, comfortable old-school feel that I really appreciated. As such I think the mines weren't a great inclusion for a few reasons. The inspiration here (oldschool 3rd/4th mix korean song steps) wouldn't have had mines (nor freezes but freezes are so useful it's hard to completely avoid them sometimes). Also, it seems like it's possible to completely avoid the mines by doing nothing. Still likely my favorite chart in the pack, if just by a little bit. Nice work.
Medusa: I've seen a few of these files with really heavy use of BPM movement to create visual effects on screen and I have to wonder what gameplay purpose they serve other than making a file impossible to sight read. It looks super cool, but makes it frustrating to play.
CALL: This is a lovely piece of music. I think personally it follows the melody just a little too closely. This kind of stepfile can work sometimes but I think in this case it might have been better-served with a more rhythm-focused chart. I'm not allergic to downtime but this one has like, a lot of it.
All-in-all I think the quality of the pack is good and thanks everyone for sharing them!

Thank you so much for the feedback!! I'll keep that in mind for future sims, as this is the first file I've sat down and made in years. Glad you enjoyed it

I mean you pretty much nailed it.It looks cool and means you have a reason to play it again, as long as I make the chart itself good too. I play charts I really like more than once even if I FPC the charts right away and, when I really try, make sure my charts do the same for others, be it from just good patterns or interesting gimmicks. CMods actually show the chart normally, though, and looking at it there makes it just look really boring to me, especially as I made the charts with the gimmicks in mind to fit the theme.
These SM5 features are things I want to see more because they open up a lot of cool possibilities, but there aren't as many people using them for the reasons you said. These shouldn't be super serious charts that can be PFC'd first try every time. They should be fun to experiment and goof around in. I get in the contest setting making an experimental chart can be very hit or miss, but it's more fun to me to see surprises like that. This theme needed some way to stick out at the very least.

Just submitted my scores for Week 1. Here's my spreadsheet if anyone cares about my opinion.
ONCE AGAIN: If you are in Group 1, please rename the folder ai·shi·te·ru·yo-custom to something without the middle dot characters! Stepmania can't load the chart if you don't.

Hot Summer:
Chewi proves himself to be a hypocrite: despite him telling me off that my opinion doesn’t matter, he went ahead and fixed his foot alternation problems (save for one slow spin). Also, his pacing was too slow and the jacks were not enjoyable.
I fixed it just for you, sweetie. And you still don't like it? Great, it's continuing.
Do you really think Hot Summer is a 1? Do you really?
Like, okay, it's obvious you have an issue with chewi. But this isn't a "good person" contest, it's a DDR simfile contest. would you have ranked it a 1 if someone else stepped it?

I was under the impression that Chewi didn't care about my opinion. Turns out he does. Let's put that in the long list of his missteps. (Hehe, "steps".)

You're the one who keeps mentioning and attacking him for no reason. All of this over a simple joke.
I don't get it.

The hostile delivery of your feedback does not mean your feedback should be ignored. Chewi read through your comments, took it into consideration, and updated the simfile. This does not make Chewi a hypocrite, it shows Chewi is open to feedback.
Reading through the spreadsheet you provided, Chewi is the only user mentioned by name. If you are to refer to one user by name when reviewing the files, then you should mention everyone's name for consistency.
