I use Xilisoft Video Converter. It's decent enough most of the time, but for .flvs, there are occasionally some sync issues, so you may have to go into Windows Movie Maker (or whatever video editing program you use) and tweak the timing of the video.

My comp can play .flv videos. I just want to convert them so I can watch them elsewhere. It can play lots of files but apparently .flv isn't one of them.
You mind giving me a link to that converter Zukin-man?

why not try Adobe Premiere CS3?
you can also edit the video and audio ... and re-sync them...
if you want to combine video and audio (it is fast), try TEMPGNC.....
(for example after ripping FFX PS2 movie, the audio & video got separated, use TEMPGNC to combine them)

Sometimes what I usually do is just change the file extension. Just open My Computer and click Tools --> Folder Options. Then under the View tab, uncheck the box that says "Hide extensions of known file types." This way, you will easily be able to see all extensions of all files. You can then change the extension to something like .mp4, .wmv or .avi.
What you could also try is http://media-convert.com/ . It's totally free, web-based and easy to use. No software is needed for download. Click the browse button and search for the file, and if the file extension is on media-convert.com's list, it will automatically detect the file you are imputting.
Next, choose the output format of the file, then click OK. The website will do it all for you, absolutely free.
When it's done with the method, a box should appear that says "File successful converted!" Then, you will be able to download and save your new file.
Hope one or both of these works.
