I have a few questions for you guys.
All of these questions are related to Stepmania.
1) On a scale of 1-10, how important do you think it is that people should cut songs below 2:30?
2) Would you be more reluctant to play a song that was considered "long"?
3) If a song was uncut, what's the maximum length that the song could be that you play it?
Please answer these questions. <33

1. 9.5/10
2. Not at all.
3. Below 8 minutes.
As far as I'm concerned, if a BEMANI song is barely above 2 minutes, cut it and export as OGG so people can play it on ITG. If you're stepping something longer than 2 minutes, put it as an MP3.

1) I would say about 3.
2)Not at all. I would be willing to try a song even if it was long. Whether or not it will be enjoyable is a different story. Some people can step long songs really well and avoid repetitive patterns.
3)I would say anything over 9 minutes would have to be my absolute limit. After that it i just dont want to be playing the same song.
All of this depends completely on the song thats being charted and how you are planning on stepping it. As i said before, avoiding repetitive patterns is really important in my opinion. If you think you can be creative with a long song, do it. If you think otherwise, cut it in places where you think it is appropriate. All comes down to your creativity with the song.

1. 9.0/10, if the length is reasonable and cutting it would take away from the song significantly, I might go with not cutting it.
2. Sometimes, since a lot of my Stepmania playing is at school or on a timer (on pad) due to having to play in a crowded room.
3. If the song is over Marathon length, there better be a really good reason for it.

1) 9/10
2) It depends on what the song is and how well it is stepped.
3)I think I would consider the tipping point of interest between 4 and 5 minutes.

1) 6/10.
2) The cut has to be purposeful (i.e., there shouldn't be unnecessary or repeated sections that could have been taken out to bring it under 2' 30"). If I find the long cut boring, I won't play it; if I enjoy the cut, I'll play it. While resisting the urge to make a that's-what-she-said joke, I'll say that size doesn't matter, it's how you use it.
I've made a couple "(original ver.)" sims in my time that breach 5' 00".
3) I play Dragonforce on ITG2 sometimes haha. I still need to try the Denjin K Megamix on pad, but in Stepmania that doesn't really wear me out much. I don't play songs over 7' 00" very often, though. They have to be really good/representative.

1. 1 (I like the music to be full-length, I don't play in an arcade and I don't have people waiting for me to finish so they can play, plus I don't have an arcade owner trying to make as much $ from me as possible, so I really don't like songs to be cut).
2. 1 (I actually prefer to play "Long" or even "Marathon" length songs and if I have two of the same song and one is full length vs a short cut I much prefer the longer version of the song).
3. 20:00 (not sure I have any songs longer than this but if I did and they were good I'd play them probably up to an hour but I'm speculating I know for sure 18:00 is one of my longest songs and I play it).

1: 6 (If it can be cut well and the cut flows nicely then fine.)
2: I love "long" songs, sometimes a song is only good as a long version since it can't be cut, so as long as the steps are good quality i'll play it.
3: Not sure ^__^ (On keyboard i've lasted 20 minutes before being tired of a song. My roommate Mike has gone 53 minutes on foot before collapsing from exhaustion, but he enjoyed playing for the whole duration.)

1. 9.5
2. Yes and no. Yes if it means not consuming two or three stages. No if it does consume two to three stages.
3. 5 minutes and 30 seconds. Beyond that is too much for one's stamina.

1. 9 / 10 . Of course i like to hear the cut version too. Because in So You Think You Can Dance did too for dance competitions.
I ever heard Telephone by Lady Gaga + Beyonce cutted perfectly and i realized "Wow ! So that will be happen if Telephone cutted
into DDR version."
I don't like song not perfectly cutted like Konami did before for some songs. Cutted only half on the songs and
leave it the rest by open coda.
2. The cutable songs suitable for DDR songs. Usually the songs has simple pattern. The Uncutable songs better not recommended for
DDR songs.
3. 3 minutes. Not more than 4 minutes.

1) I would say 10/10.
2) Depends on the song really.
3) Any song that has a length above 5 minutes will get tedious for me. So my maximum length that suits my playability would have to be exact 5 minutes max.

2)Ya, theres quite a few songs that I enjoy the "longer" version of, the only problem is that some people step them repetitively.
3) 1hr 52mins is the longest song I have seen, although it doesnt even have music, I enjoy songs up to 15 minutes long then I start to fumble.

I think the problem with "long version" songs is that there were only ever 4, and they were all carefuly chosen, and cut in such a way that the songs kept up a constant level of energy, and every 40 seconds or so, they would throw in a crescendo, to ramp up the energy a tiny bit more.
I don't think anyone has ever succeeded (or even tried) to create a Long Version in the mould of the DDR ones. The official Long Version songs had a lot of effort put into them, in order to stop them being bording, and even then, it's seen as a failed experiment to use song cuts which are over 2 minutes.
I'm yet to see a simfile which has a good reason for going over 2:10. Usually, it's a result of people not realising how to cut the song down to a reasonable length, and ends up with a "long version" which contains a boring intro, a boring outro, and 40 seconds of uninteresting steps.
Sooooo keeping that in mind :
1) 10
2) Yes. I'm yet to see a "Long" simfile which has any excuse for being over 2:30
3) 2:00 Is about the limit I've seen a song go, without becoming incredibly diluted.

Enjoy - http://zenius-i-vanisher.com/v5.2/viewsimfile.php?simfileid=5760The DDR "Long" songs were way to repetitive (and horrible song choices other than the B4U song), I'm sorry that so much of your play-experiences are based on them.
