1. Is there any way I can view groups by default?
2. In Stepmania, groups showed banners in the same manner that songs do. Is there any way I could enable this?
3. If a song's preview plays, and you switch groups, the last song continues to play. Can I disable this and have the menu song play instead?

Haha, yeah, I guess you have a point there.
But yeah, DDR Extreme was always my favourite mix. But I've been exposed to too many luxuries with Stepmania. So I guess my dream setup would be the Extreme UI with a bit of elements from Stepmania thrown in, like the ones I posted earlier.

hmmm, i thought you could change some stuff if you went into options -> input options, then change the options nagivation from Arcade to Stepmania, This is looking in sm3.9, if that doesnt help, maybe ask beware about it.

I looked into it when I downloaded the theme, but I couldn't find anything that changed it to my liking. Oh well, I'll just hope that beware sees my posts. :p

1: edit the metrics in the theme.
find: DefaultSort=DEFAULTLIST
change it to: DefaultSort=GROUP
2: that is patched and can't be changed.
3: no, that is patched. this behavior is like extreme arcade.
if you want to change 2 and 3 you need to change the patches and compile your own SM
edit: the whole "defaultlist" feature is patched, too, but i did it in such a way that it can be disabled or changed with metrics

Damn. Oh well though, they're not that important to me anyway. Lol.
Thanks for clearing that up.
EDIT: Couldn't someone hack the arcade version to find out the exact specifications of the hitwindow?

These should perfectly emulate Extreme. It's based on framerates, but taking into account polling rates would need to be done, too. The above is "as close as you can get", and I played on that on my machine at home until I tightened it up - it was on par with what I could do in the arcade every time.

this looks a lot like "theory 1", the great window is a bit bigger than in beware extreme. i don't like how you claim it's perfect if it's based on playing experience and not reverse engineering the rom data or isolated automated lab measurements.

It's been a while since I read the justification, but I recall an Extreme Home version patch which targeted timing windows. I thought it was then established that the windows were based on framerate, and the values aligned to the above ratings.
The Perfect and Marvelous windows should be sufficiently tight, but I'll retract the "perfect" part for the whole.

Would these timings be allowed for scores on the Stepmania Accomplishments Thread? Seeing how this is a modified timing window. What would I say, "Judge: (EXTREME AC sim)"? I'm starting to play my own SM with these timings, as i've already modified them in the stepmania.ini file.

I suppose as long as you advertise your timings, sure. These are tighter than the default Judge 4 in Stepmania by a significant amount, so by definition are at least as representative of skill as Judge 4.
To point attention back to beware's reply, I have not personally infiltrated the Extreme AC code. I can say from personal experience, and many forums' worth of posts, that these timings "felt like Extreme" to a large number of skilled players. Search for the old thread on DDRFreak regarding timing windows for more info.

Well, it's Stepmania all right, any level of judgment is allowed (though I think judge 1 will be ridiculed).
Anyway that thread is for Stepmania only so if you play Stepmania, post it there. You won't be posting it in DDR thread even if you used EXTREME timing windows, no?
btw @Adamn, does this EXTREME CS patch modify CS timing window to AC timing window? This is the first time I've heard of such.
Also, I think DDR does poll its timing based of framerates, since it plays charts according to framerates (which will cause drift issues if played on a monitor with different framerate)

I always thought that EXTREME AC was closer to Judge 6 because of the strict Perfect timing window. That's why i've been playing on 6, to try and emulate AC timings. CS timings (and thus Judge 4) are just weak.
After playing a few songs, i'm finding that Judge 6 is actually harder than EXTREME AC timings, despite the tighter Perfect & Marvelous windows in EX (the Great timing window is rather large, so my combos feel rather inflated), so I might just go back to Judge 6 again.
