While I am a fan of Challenge charts, some of the songs that do have them don't need them at all, like Horatio and Pluto the First. And yes, not every song needs a Challenge chart. I just think some songs would be more fun if they had a more challenging or fitting chart, because some Expert charts are a joke. I am going to say that a Challenge chart for 千年ノ理 would be pretty fun.

I was gonna append this but L33t ninja'd me, so let's break this down:
2) Are you saying DDR doesn't have near-impossible patterns? Look at every single 19 and every chart that hasn't been PFC'd at this point
3) Sound effects are built in and take no time
2) Challenge charts are good but don't always need to happen.
3) Yes it is, no one wants to play overcharted garbage. DEGRS sucks.
Quote
Okay I'll do it now then.
Do we have to? Yes? OK.Quote
Zephyranthes, Angelic Jelly, Sephirot, Grand Chariot, and Strayed Catz could totally have 15+ challenge charts
You're right, they could. Check my simfile page.Quote
The EXH chart for most of these songs is actually in the 13-15 range in SDVX, but they still got harder 17/18 charts that you can unlock.
Alright, here we go, I knew someone would try to use SDVX as an argument. But like I said, there's a much higher demand for hard SDVX charts than there is DDR. I can play 16s indefinitely in SDVX, but DDR eats up stamina much much faster.Quote
Making hard charts for a dance game isn't hard lol. If anything it's harder to make hard charts for SDVX because of actually impossible to perform patterns and having to effect songs.
1) Making good hard charts is. You're forgetting that if konami messes up a chart slightly, the entire community loses its shit2) Are you saying DDR doesn't have near-impossible patterns? Look at every single 19 and every chart that hasn't been PFC'd at this point

I get that charts are always 12-14 cause that's what eAmuse stats say most people are playing but it takes literally a day (or less) to make a chart if you're not trash at it. It's not like having challenge charts for songs is a bad thing (and no, songs being "overcharted" is not a valid excuse).
1) Yes, a lot of songs are in the 12-14 range. But as you said yourself, Zephyranthes and Triple Counter weren't. We just got 7 new 14+ charts (Boss Rush through In Between). We're getting harder and harder songs as time goes on. Go look at the old mixes.2) Challenge charts are good but don't always need to happen.
3) Yes it is, no one wants to play overcharted garbage. DEGRS sucks.

Astrogazer and Come To Life , while fun, are both overcharted. Start a New Day is overcharted on and but imo are both fun as well. However, that doesn't mean that they needed those charts. I believe that Astrogazer, Come To Life, and Start a New Day all got charts (and SaND's chart) that were all overcharted and really not needed. I would've stayed content if those songs didn't get charts.
However, when all of those songs were first released I don't think I saw anyone go "wow I can't wait to see a chart for these!", and now when Boss Rush came out with its 16-footer chart I still saw people go "wow this needs a chart it would be great". Are you serious? The chart has over 700 notes and is arguably one of the hardest 16s in the game, and you still believe that it needs a chart? If Boss Rush got one it would be overcharted and would be a hot mess.
I really don't see why so many people lately are immediately going like "needs a hard chart" as soon as a song gets released and you see the chart. Can't you just be happy with the charts that were released? They weren't garbage. They look like fun.
ZEPHYRANTHES, Angelic Jelly, Strayed Catz, Sephirot, and Grand Chariot's are all very nice and honestly I don't see the need for charts for them, especially when ZEPHYRANTHES got a 15-footer chart and Triple Counter got a 17-footer chart.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Back on topic, the charts for the new songs look really fun. I can't wait to go play them. More Nekomata Master in DDR is always appreciated.

I defy you to show me a 16+ chart for StrayedCatz that isn't absolute trash or generic cut and paste pseudo-ITG stamina nonsense.

Y'all gotta chill on this "every song needs a challenge chart" shit. I would personally love it as I like having hard stuff, but you have to accept that EVERY rhythm game has the entry level charts. Not EVERYTHING needs a Challenge chart, much to my dismay.

And... that's the only one of the six that I can't make.Appending a slightly unpopular opinion here: I don't think any of the Extra Exclusives actually needed a Challenge difficulty. I wanted to see them more on Extra Savior songs.

Making hard charts requires an advanced understanding of charting and patterning, this is not something you do in 15 minutes you dingbat. If its so fucking easy, show us, go make one right now and have it ready in 24 hours, and it had better be good. I genuinely get sick and tired of people suggesting that charting is so fucking easy and that difficult, complex charts can just be whipped up on the spot no problem.

It takes x amount of time to make a good chart
If you're familiar with a song, you can make a good 15+ chart in 30 to 60 minutes. Quote
SDVX
You can't really compare DDR difficulty to other rhythm games. The classic example is 5.1.1. on IIDX vs DDR. Polyrhythm and chordsmashes can't really be a thing on foot. Quote
But DDR Extreme is a thing
DDR Extreme is completely irrelevant. Anyone who plays extreme does so either because they have no other option or they still need to PFC songs on Extreme that are not on Ace. The charts on extreme have not aged well and many of them could have decent challenge charts as well. Quote
But guys this is like an ITG chart ewwwwwww
ITG is also irrelevant to this discussion, as it has been user driven for 12 years. Literally anything can be an "ITG chart", so any argument relating DDR and ITG at this point is invalid. Quote
We don't need harder charts
If you struggle with level 15+ charts, it makes sense that you wouldn't really care about harder charts. Here's the thing though. Players get better over time, and many of us have been playing for well over a decade. There comes a point where 12s get boring and we only play them to PFC/MFC them. A lot of us find 15-17 charts to be super fun, so when a song can clearly support a good harder chart (like both of these new songs), there's no reason not to have one. It's like if you always play level 12 and 13 charts but every new song gets a level 9 or 10 chart at the most, even though it could have a really fun 12 or 13 chart. Not so fun, right?
If you like 12s, that's great. You have 226 to choose from, which is more than the 15, 16, 17, 18, and 19 folders combined. As people continue to improve at DDR, more higher level charts are necessary to satisfy the people who play them. Konami has actually been pretty good about this lately, but this should be the case for every song that can support harder charts.
More content = more better

I sort of disagree. I had made quite a few 15+ charts that took me that long for very familiar songs, but it usually ends up awful once I started playtesting. I also knew people who can make charts (even ones that has been doing it for a long time) fast as well, but it's mostly horrible even for them, so they don't even bother redoing it when they lose interest...Post #7058 · Posted at 2018-06-23 04:53:09pm 5.9 years ago

No you can't. You can make a rough copy of a good chart, having laid out the steps to the music as best as possible and arranged them in a sensible but not very enjoyable pattern within 30-60 minutes. It would not be fun to play due to the nature of hastily put together charts, and absolutely would require touch ups to make it enjoyable.
Now, if you spent most of the day working on the chart, then yes, you could absolutely make a very good 15+ chart, but you cannot do it within an hour, no matter how familiar you are with the song, that's laughable.

I'd say a lot of the time either I can do the whole chart in about an hour if I work nonstop and know the song well, or I do bits and pieces over the course of a few days as I figure out what I want to do with the rest of the chart. Regardless, play-testing takes at least another hour to make sure I'm happy with it.
Overall, I'd say you can make a chart quickly but you better test the hell out of it or it's gonna be generic as fuck.

I'd say the time it takes to write a chart really depends on how much of the chart you planned out in your head before you started writing out the steps. I usually get through the writing very quickly if I imagined the moves to each beat ahead of time, but if I haven't, doing so could easily take hours. I would probably give up if I haven't figured out how I wanted to write the chart after listening to the song a few times.
Of course, even if I did finish the first draft quickly enough, once I'm finished, I'd run the chart a few times on AutoPlay and usually fix things here and there, so that adds about 20 or so minutes. Therefore, I would feel like I haven't worked hard enough if I get a 15+ chart finished in under an hour.
