Margaritaville Resort Biloxi AKA "Escape"

Information

*As of September 2023, the only known locations with rhythm games in this state are:

-Margaritaville Resort | Biloxi | PIU Infinity | PUBLIC
-Games Inc. | Biloxi | StepMania Simply Love | PUBLIC
-Big Play | Biloxi | Beat Saber | PUBLIC
-Allin1 Adventures | Meridian | StepManiaX | PUBLIC
-T-Top's Pad | Biloxi | StepManiaX + Sound Voltex + beatmaniaIIDX + VR rhythm games | PRIVATE
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Massive arcade complex (by Mississippi's standards) with a huge set of redemption and "modern" retro games, a PIU Infinity machine in "OK" shape, a wide variety of bars, restaurants, snacks, and other amenities, and an overall "escapism" vibe backed by Jimmy Buffet and Jack Johnson.

The arcade lacks a games in various genres such as shmups, retro, beat-em-ups, and fighting (except for a recently acquired Injustice). Still, the variety of games is decent enough, especially for casual visitors.

While many attempts have been made for grabbing additional rhythm games, nothing has come to fruition, and likely won't. Ever. They even had conversations with Kyle Ward about purchasing StepManiaX but Kyle said they passed on the opportunity.

*All arcade games are half-priced on Wednesdays!*

Pump It Up Infinity (International)
Location: Has been moved back against the wall to the left of the drink bar, underneath the elevated rope course.
Comment: Machine condition is "moderate" mainly because a few screws are loose and/or missing in the pads which causes a somewhat annoying metal clanking noise if you happen to land on certain metal panels while playing. Also, the machine was brand new in 2016 and it's now 2023 so it has a little bit of wear and tear and sensors probably could use replacements but overall, it works as you'd expect and it doesn't have squeaky or wobbly bars either, which is nice. There is screen burn-in on the monitor but you only really notice it when the screen is mostly white. It seems moving the cab from SD to HD has caused a small vertical portion of the left side of the screen to be cut off. Doesn't affect gameplay but it's noticeable. Bars feel fine and pads are level again. If they increased the volume like they used to, set it back to SD or fixed the screen offset, bought screws for the ones that are missing in the panels, and replaced the pad sensors...the machine could be good as new. Wouldn't take much to fix this up, not sure they're gonna do it though. 1P USB slot seems to no longer recognizes USB sticks. I tried and tried, unsuccessfully. 2P has thin some metal sheet/panels lifting up slightly behind the Down arrow. Just needs two screws to be tightened, which I tried...but either the screws are stripped or the holes are somehow stripped. Pads are a bit bouncy and noisy, they need to fully lower the pad because it looks and feels like it's still up on its wheels somewhat. There is a slight wobble when playing but it isn't noticeable if you're the only playing, only if you watch somebody else on the pads (mostly during double mode).

2.8 credits on Wednesdays.

Gonna PM you, Catoxis!
Catoxis1 year agoCatoxis
I'm in agreement, Zeio. At this stage, we've made our intentions clear, and we're not going to hear anything until they finish their expansion. Would definitely rather head to your place and play some SMX. I sent a message back in August, and would love to schedule some time to play.
zeioIIDX1 year agozeioIIDX
Finally visited here again...accidentally decided to go during Cruisin' the Coast weekend >_> Anyway, the PIU machine moved next to the drink tiki hut. The pads are super gunked up and sticky but nothing some Sprayway can't fix. Machine volume could be turned up some. Generally was able to get decent scores but I can tell some sensors need to be replaced. I don't know...I don't see myself ever playing here regularly again since I no longer have friends around here who play anymore (my old crew disbanded, I guess). Plus, I'd rather just continue playing SMX at home. Maybe we'll get a Round1 someday on the coast. I would not hold my breath on Margaritaville Resort ever getting a new music game. SMX would be their best bet but after trying for years to convince them to get one and them pretending like they want one...they just continue to buy more ticket redemption games so I've given up, lmao.

Haven't been here regularly since before the pandemic. I visited ONCE 2 years ago. Ever since they stopped taking care of PIU Infinity, refused multiple times to purchase StepManiaX or any other music games (after asking for the opinions of local rhythm games countless times over the years...which was ultimately pointless), and after I ended up purchasing my own SMX machine for home...I simply haven't had a desire to come back here. Invitation is still open, by the way to anyone that wants to come by my spot for SMX, IIDX INFINITAS, Beat Saber, Synth Riders, DJMAX Respect, etc! My "arcade" on the map is Zeio's Pad in Biloxi.
Catoxis2 years agoCatoxis
Yea, sounds like between Zeta and the expansion, that might not be something they're actually interested in in the short term. But, you're totally right, the feigning of interest is frustrating. I've mostly been climbing the skill tree via ECFA and working on Beat Saber again. I'll still swing by to chill here and there, but once I finish Mawaru Infinity, I'll have 100% this place.
zeioIIDX3 years agozeioIIDX
Just a heads up, I'm moving to a ground floor apartment at the end of next month. Since I have StepManiaX, if anybody in the area wants to play once I move (I live in Biloxi), let me know and we can set something up! I've only got one stage so no versus or double mode, unfortunately. Make sure you download the SMX app on your phone if you wanna save your scores! Check the map on here and look for "Zeio's Pad" in Biloxi for more info about visiting to play SMX.
mrg063 years agomrg06
That sucks! But you're right about the Gulf Coast. That's part of the reason why I moved away. I totally would have came back to visit if there was an SMX machine.
zeioIIDX3 years agozeioIIDX
*sigh* Welp, I got a reply today and here's the message: "I just checked back in and it sounds like our team has decided not to move forward with the game at this time. So sorry to disappoint, and I hope we can revisit in the future." That blows. It seems if the game/attraction is not in the ticket redemption department, they want nothing to do with it. They've made various remarks since 2016 about wanting to hold a PIU tournament, purchase PIU Prime 2, SMX, and Neon FM, among other things...and each time, myself and others have given them helpful info and enthusiasm but apparently rhythm games will remain a dying breed and relic of the past on the Gulf Coast. Whatever. I'm done going out of my way to provide these people with every crumb of info I can find when they occasionally feign interest in purchasing new rhythm games. I've gotten it from Diana, Jay, AND Katy. Our only hope at this point is to reach out to Round 1 Bowling & Amusement to try to get them to build one here. I've made a few mentions on their official Facebook page already but haven't properly reached out yet, maybe I'll try...just once. In the meantime, I'll just be happy with my home setups of IIDX, Beat Saber, Synth Riders, and SMX. After I buy the PIU panels for my SMX stage, I won't even need the arcade anymore anyway since I can just play PIU on my PC at that point. Deuces.
zeioIIDX3 years agozeioIIDX
I need to contact Katy again now that they're open so I can see if they still plan on purchasing SMX. I recently bought SMX to play at home, it's amazing! I'll reach out to Katy right now actually and give an update when I hear back from her or Kyle Ward.

With the reopening of this place post-Zeta, I will be going on-site today to review the reported 80 new games. Looks like PIU Infinity survived, as it was spotted in a WLOX report on Wednesday next to a Spinner Frenzy machine. Here's hoping for some good finds!

WOAH. BIG props for that, that's an amazing outreach on your end, so well played. I'm getting the word out and I'll do my best to be there for any fun stuff and try to build some hype.

Had a long phone call with Kyle Ward last night, it's very possible we're finally getting a StepManiaX cab sometime soon! He's already in talks with the arcade and the current word is they're looking at moving the PIU Infinity cab to their other Margaritaville Resort location so they can test out StepManiaX here in Biloxi to see how it fares. Just a heads up! If anyone is interested in seeing this game, Kyle says to start letting other rhythm gamers in the area know so we can let the arcade see that we're interested. I'm also lookin at getting Kyle in contact with Keesler AFB because he wants to put some on base, possibly in the gyms or at the bowling alley on base.

Center panel on 2P seems to be sticky. I didn't bother asking to have it opened up and cleaned/adjusted because they were pretty busy today but they've never had a problem obliging in the past so I'm sure that's all it'll take. It's possible when they installed the new blue arrow on 2P, they over tightened the screws in the bracket or something.
zeioIIDX4 years agozeioIIDX

It would be awesome if they have brought in DDR arcade and pther rythmn game arcades instead of more ticket games. I love ticket games don't get me wrong but I want to play other music games.
Catoxis4 years agoCatoxis
I'll make sure to put a bug in folks' ear about PIU XX, because it definitely isn't exclusive to D&B and R1. Tons of smaller groups in Texas, Illinois, Florida, and more all have XX. I hope they can get an LX cab because that would draw a lot of attention.
zeioIIDX4 years agozeioIIDX
I visited over the weekend and spoke with one of the techs. I was told that they had a meeting the other day regarding allocating money towards purchasing a newer version of PIU and he specified it would be an entirely new machine, not just an upgrade kit. Apparently, from what I was told, this is going to be happening sooner rather than later although he was unsure of what version of PIU they will get. I'm not sure if PIU XX is a Dave & Buster's exclusive but I'm gonna guess they're going to upgrade to at least PIU Prime or PIU Prime 2. Anything would be great, honestly.

Sad news: I visited last night and not only does the cracked bottom right arrow still have duct tape temporarily holding it, it also has a cracked and duct taped bottom left arrow panel as well as a cracked and duct taped bottom right arrow panel on the 1P side. I was still able to play just fine for the most part but...they need to get their act together and fix this thing instead of purchasing more ticket redemption games no one plays.
zeioIIDX4 years agozeioIIDX
So the arrow that was broken has not been replaced yet because they received the wrong part so they are still waiting for the actual panel to come in. In the meantime, they took the panel that was cracked and duct taped it in the center and the machine has been turned back on. It plays just fine and it should be able to hold up until the new arrow comes in.
zeioIIDX4 years agozeioIIDX
Just got word that the machine is operational again so I'll be going by today to check it out.

Perfecto, I had asked Roger to check on that back on Friday.

Arcade manager told me she is ordering a new panel for the broken arrow on Monday April 1 and she'll let me know once it's fixed.
zeioIIDX5 years agozeioIIDX
Bottom right arrow on 2P side is cracked right down the center. Again. 1P some gives some pad Bads on the upper/red arrows once in a while. Thanks, Mississippi.
zeioIIDX5 years agozeioIIDX
Thanks for that! Once in a blue moon, the volume will be way down like that due to someone on Mario Kart complaining (too bad PIU isn't in its own corner) but they are really good about pumping the volume back up for us when we ask. Get any records on the machine that I can beat this weekend? Lol
mrg065 years agomrg06
Stopped by here last night and the volume was all the way down. Asked someone to turn it up and they did. Everything else seemed ok

Welp, the arcade contacted me and let me know the pads have been repaired. Visited and played a few sets and yep, everything's back to normal and the pads feel great!
zeioIIDX5 years agozeioIIDX
That would have been a massive bummer. I'll visit again at some point this week or over the weekend. The moment I see the pads have been fixed, I'll update that here so everyone knows.

Glad I saw this. I was going to drive 2.5 hours to come play this week
zeioIIDX5 years agozeioIIDX
Went to the arcade a couple weeks ago. BOTH yellow center pads are cracked/broken now. I played doubles on it, it's playable but not enjoyable. Singles isn't even enjoyable anymore. I emailed Jay Jordan and Diana Hallman about the issue and linked them to a parts distribution vendor who sells the panels for $43 each and gave them reasons why it's dangerous to let the panels remain broken. They're usually really good at keeping in touch with me but I haven't heard back from them this time. Hopefully the pads do get fixed though, they do realize how many people play it and they were even planning on setting up a tournament at some point. Can't do that with broken pads >_> Probably won't be back to the arcade anytime soon since I doubt they'll fix the pads anytime soon. Could be wrong though.
hyundaibus5 years agohyundaibus
I was there between Aug 20-24 and I was able to play doubles just fine, even with the cracked panel.
Catoxis5 years agoCatoxis
Can confirm. It still seems usable, but I didn't play doubles or Left last time I was there.
zeioIIDX5 years agozeioIIDX
Haven't been to the arcade in a month so that sucks to hear...They seriously need to stop writing "STOMP" on the arrows/panels because I've seen far too many kids and casual players get on the machine and take that literally. Fortunately I play on the right side but still...that's no bueno. I'm trying to make it to the arcade tomorrow sometime in the afternoon.

Word around the campfire is the arcade is looking to get a PIU Prime 2 cabinet or PIU Prime 2 upgrade kit in the near future!
zeioIIDX7 years agozeioIIDX
Yo, whoever came by the Resort and played some level 18, 19, 21, etc charts needs to come by again on a weekend so we can meet! I can only play up to 16s so I was shocked to see last night that someone has machine scores for several difficulty levels higher than that because thus far, I've yet to see anyone play PIU very well around here (aside from my small group of friends). We have to play together sometime!
PashRoot7 years agoPashRoot
Seconding ZeioIIDX's comment here. The machine appears to be well maintained for the most part and the staff are super friendly. No annoying kids getting in your way and when things get super busy they even have security staff roaming around to make sure everything is going smoothly. Best arcade on the gulf coast. Period.
zeioIIDX7 years agozeioIIDX
I've played here for 5 days now. The arcade staff are extremely helpful and friendly. They allowed me to update PIU Infinity to version 1.10 and they even increased the volume, TWICE. I had an issue with my game card where I loaded it with $25 but it failed to show up on my card. They took care of it and put $25 on there for me even though I didn't grab a receipt from the kiosk. No one minds if you bring bottles of water or sports drinks into the arcade which is nice. Haven't had any issues with little kids jumping on the machine or jerks stomping on the pads like idiots. There are plenty of benches and areas to sit and relax. Overall, this is a great place to play at!

• Comment changed to "It seems moving the cab from SD to HD has caused a small vertical portion of the left side of the screen to be cut off. Doesn't affect gameplay but it's noticeable. Bars feel fine and pads are level again. A sensor or two could stand to be replaced on 1P side, I got a few "pad misses" but nothing too terrible. If they increased the volume like they used to, set it back to SD or fixed the screen offset, and replaced the pad sensors...the machine could be good as new. Wouldn't take much to fix this up, not sure they're gonna do it though. ".
