KONAMI (English pages links to KONAMI Asia)
SILENT HILL: THE ARCADE
There are three of these machines at the ATEI.
Two at KONAMI's stand and one at PMT's stand.
Public popularity was very high.
e-AMUSEMENT is not present or avaliable for this machine.
GuitarFreaks&DrumMania V4 Rock x Rock
A pair of these machines are at the ATEI.
Only at KONAMI's stand.
Public popularity was very high.
Mitsuhiro Nozaki (GF/DM Producer) is present.
The machine is partially translated into English. All menus and instructions are in English but all song names and e-AMUSEMENT Japan province names remain in Japanese.
SESSION MODE is possible as the machines are linked up.
e-AMUSEMENT is working although e-AMUSEMENT cards are not being issued to players.
The difficulty of the machines are on the EASIEST setting. It is almost impossible to fail a song.
BEGINNER MODE and STANDARD MODE are set 2 stages.
Both machines are on EXTRA LV 1 (nothing unlocked).
BATTLE MODE is e-AMUSEMENT enabled, therefore you can battle players from Japan. If a player cannot be found within fifteen seconds, CPU will take over instead. BATTLE MODE is 4 stages long. Two of which are selected by you and two of which are selected by the other player.
When in BATTLE MODE, the machine's region is EU with the name ATEI unless a card is inserted otherwise it uses the card's stored name.
Bass Pedal on DrumMania misfires quite often, lots of people are using AUTO-BASS as a result.
DanceDanceRevolution SuperNOVA (Japan)
One machine at the ATEI.
Only at JNC-Games's stand.
The machine has e-AMUSE parts.
Boss songs are unlocked.
Second hand machine.

Only at Andamiro's stand.
Kyle Ward is present.
Pump It Up EXTRA

Well if we don't get any DS, then I suppose there's still Silent Hill.
I'm not into GuitarFreaks... yet.
Do you plan on getting much coverage of SH aswell? I know you probably want to cover Bemani maily, but just a little request.

Heh, I think we won't be seeing SuperNOVA2 at all in this country.
Apparently they're not allowed to sell SuperNOVAs any more due to the Sony hardware that is in the machines which contains something which is banned from being distributed.
Since SuperNOVA2 is an upgrade to SuperNOVA that uses the same hardware, we can assume there is NO chance of as seeing SuperNOVA2 at all.
There's the SILENT HILL: THE ARCADE (Asia/English) site you can look at.

But, as far as I know, isn't the hardware in GF/DM V4 the same as SN2?

Well, ANYTHING PS2 related won't be allowed in Europe, so I believe it's a BEMANI PC in there.

Hmm, so apparently that's changed since the days of V and V2, which were both PS2-based. Granted, Pop'n Music recently switched over to PC, so anything is possible...
But an EU directive is blocking it? Wow, as if you Brits needed any more reason to hate the EU.

What exactly is the difference between a PS2 with HD and the SN2 hardware?

Well, you can't just stick a PS2+HDD combo into the machine and hope it works, I think there are some custom parts to it, like the board to connect the various pieces of hardware to control the game on the PS2, stuff like that.
What I'm not too sure about at the moment, is which critical Sony component is preventing any PS2 based arcade game from being released.

And whether kosher parts from EU-accepted machines could make a replacement. Either way, now I'm starting to think that I haven't heard the last of this...importing would still be fine, right?

AFAIK, yes. Importing is fine, distributing and selling isn't.

Heh, I really REALLY doubt EU would change laws for a gaming company though.

Yeah that's pretty unlikely, but they could make SN2 run under different hardware like the same one GF & DM will use, I dunno. If Konami REALLY wants Europe to have DS they could probably find a way, but just like USA and our e-amuse-disabled games, they won't do anything. It seems that as long as Japan gets it good, the rest of the world can suck it.
...hmm so I get it now, this is why the Positive Gaming folks are doing their own dancing game.

Kinda funny that they switched over to the PS2 arcade hardware in the first place for DDR for the purposes of Dancing Stage Fusion...

Well I suppose I somehow saw this coming.
If there are so many Extreme machines imported... then hopefully it's only a matter of time before an SN2 gets imported?
Yeah right.
Well I actually didn't know they stopped selling SN1 cabs, this is just one big kick in the teeth for us.

Yeah, me neither, it only came to light when I spoke to someone about it.
Let's hope GF/DM V4 shown this year actually gets released continent wide and e-AMUSE does kick off here.

Yes, hopefully Europe can get some Bemani out of this year.
But I'm also starting to wonder, what does this mean for the future of Dancing Stage? Would Konami go back to using old hardware just for us?

Quite perhaps, or DDR could go BEMANI PC on the next release.

Which has been my theory for quite some time... they'll announce a new DDR series (won't be SN3), and place it on the BemaniPC hardware...
