joe#2 simfiles

hi, i like making simfiles.

In advance, sorry for the wall of text/links. I tried to make this a spoiler list but apparently that doesn't fly here. Everything below is a template I have for crossposting that's a bit old. Basically, 1+2 are kind of skippable while 3+4 and beyond are good by my current standards.

From my understanding, expert-only is not received that well here as on other sites. So as a disclaimer, these charts range from 8 to 13 footers on the ITG scale, and the vast majority are either SX or SX/DX.



My oldest pack of files. To be frank, a lot of these have not aged well. At all. All of the graphics here are by mute, so big ups to him. The grand majority of these lack the step placement/attention to detail present in my more recent files. However, a few decent files are in here waiting to be found, so I hope you at least give this pack a chance (while laughing at the really bad files, too).

A bit more recent than my first collection. Song choice in here is a bit more expansive, and a lot of the beginner's mistakes present in my first pack were weeded out by the time this one rolled around. The amount of stuff here that makes me consider committing stepmania suicide is by far much less than in my previous pack. Graphics work for this was done by zimlord, so major thanks.

A recent pack of mine. This showcases what are some of the best of the best simfiles I have to offer. Both musical variety and steppability are high in this pack, and it certainly shows. Graphics is once again done by zimlord, except this time I opted for a fallback set as opposed to full graphics, since they seem to save those on both ends a great amount of time and hassle. This will most likely be the format for my future packs.

Excellent stuff. Good to see another well-known on ZIv.

I'm kinda surprised, but also happy that more of the well-known r21 filers are posting their stuff on ZIv. I thought r21freak in general hated this place...

I don't personally have anything against this site (well duh, otherwise I wouldn't really post my stuff here). I feel like Z-I-V and r21freak like different things out of simfiles, and that's fine with me. I figured some of my files could appeal to some players here, so I only see crossposting these here as a positive thing. Also lol 'well known', I don't really think I compare to others called that, but anyway

I'd be down to see some words on files, ideally the newer ones (I'm not really big on old pack revamps, to be honest).

A quick word on some of the files I played (disclaimer: everything is being played on KB because i don't have a reliable pad)

Dependence Intension Rebirth Mix: I know you said you didn't like revamping older packs, but I feel this should have been an 11 if only for the gimmicks, though I did like them a lot. Overall this is a really good file, I didn't think anything was out of place.
:exceltastic: oh wait wrong forum 9.5/10

Kansai Evolved: Not a fan of how the streams starting at m14 switch back and forth between the piano and the breaks, I feel they should just follow the piano. But other than that, another really good file.

Gossip: NHATOOOOOOO
Can't say I liked the gimmicks here as much. I mean, I can hear what you're accenting, but I personally don't like sudden drops to 40-something BPM because then I usually fuck up and break combo. :V Also there's a stepjump in m9 that I'm not fond of but again that's a personal thing.

Dependence Intension: I normally rate on the steps themselves as if they were being cmodded, regardless of gimmicks (unless they're INSANELY obnoxious), and I don't think this chart falls under that, honestly. Glad you liked the file though.

Kansai: I agree with you a lot on this. I tried to layer too much and it's kinda sloppy, but I don't really know how else I'd approach this.

Gossip: I tend to go a bit overboard with jumps/gimmicks when it comes to Nhato songs, but I can see where you're coming from. I don't *think* I would tone down the gimmicks for the pack release, but I'll definitely check out those and the jumpstep thing.

DBB is an odd choice. I love the song but I don't think I ever got satisfied with the chart for it. To each their own or something like that

It's a tough 11, but yeah, I think it's an 11. I would have an easier time passing that on pad than something like 2-Dimension Dream Fever or Route 143, which I have both rated as 12s. The technical and/or stream heavy parts in it are relentless, sure, but it has a few generous breaks throughout the song (especially at the end). If it's any consolation, I had that as really borderline when I was deciding what to rank it, but I still stand by what I labeled it.

edit: I am glad that overall it seems like most people have something they like to pick out of one or two packs, I always like seeing such wildly varying opinions.

-since that video I've made a few small custom modifications, but I want to say they're not present in that video. Mainly stuff like making the BG brighter, and getting rid of the character on gameplay screen.

Implying that I don't see hellrazor's user name viewing the forum all the time.

I always prefer simfiles to have a full deck of charts myself, I'll always applaud it when I see it but that doesn't make single-chart files bad. Wasn't the reason hellrazor complained because he had kids who couldn't do the heavier charts?

Yeah, he complained because they couldn't step up to harder things outside .
