Okay, at the end of last week I had AIJBot generate its own version of "The Very Hungry Caterpillar".

The work was good enough to contemplate printing up a formal book since I have that capability and it is silly enough to be something I would do anyways.

I can write up the book in terms of dimensions and text layout since I know how the original is laid out and the font used (As confirmed by Eric Carle) is from the "Bodoni" font family

My big problem is the artwork. I would love to use the same style artwork with the watercolor-ish patchwork design of characters and objects much like the original "Very Hungry Caterpillar" and others like "Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See?" and "From Head to Toe" but I have no idea how to do that.

I will put up some general storyboards to show the rough ideas I had so far (artwork is thrown in ad-hoc for the time being), but it isn't anywhere near complete and I'm not sure what should go where yet as well as how I should illustrate some of the more abstract concepts.

For reference, here is a sample page from the original (or, one of the many versions of it)

And here is the rough layout of the text I have with some images thrown in just to show what kind of images/positioning I was going for

The Very Stupid Lemur

In the glow of the bomb an offensive briefcase rests on a leaf.

One Sunday morning the awful dry ice foamed up and -snork- out of the briefcase shot a fuzzy and very stupid lemur.

He started to beg for some respect

On Monday he slammed into one politician, but he was still stupid

On Tuesday he slammed into Nigeria, but he was still stupid

On Wednesday he slammed into Google but he was still stupid

On Thursday he slammed into the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope but he was still stupid

On Friday he slammed into Ninevolt the angry teapot but he was still stupid

On Saturday he slammed into
one aircraft carrier,
one shoe dispenser,
one caramel llama,
one thicket of cocaine,
one bathtub,
one Latvian embassy,
one fry pan of peanut butter,
one gelatinous door,
one erotic asparagus,
and one colostomy bag.

That night he had lupus.

The next day was Sunday again and the lemur ate through one sensual biscuit of lies and after that he felt an enormous aura of self-loathing

Now he wasn't stupid anymore -and he wasn't self-aware any more. He was a gluttonous, sequined lemur.

He started to build a glorious prison, called a vestibule, around himself. He froze like a coke float for more than a baker’s dozen of decades. Then one day he barfed reality during his prompt escape, and.....

He was a devout pencil sharpener.

So yeah, does anyone have any ideas on how to mimic the classic art style of Eric Carle's works or any kind of filter that might look similar? Anyone want to take a crack at any of the artwork?

As with my other book(s), I can publish this, but it will be more expensive if I print it hardcover full-color printed in landscape. (under $10 for sure, but maybe not much less than $9 from the looks of it at the moment)

He was a very devout pencil sharpener. I don't know...

Can't really critique if only because I don't know what's going on...

how about "literally" illustrating them?
