"I'm honestly pissed off." |
Apparently my upstairs neighbors are going to start getting pissy about me playing every day (I stop before 9 most nights, and the apartment agreement says 10 is the limit, so they don't have any real grounds for it, plus, I play with headphones on, so they don't hear any music), so I'm wondering if any of you have any advice on making a CF quieter to dance on.
I've noticed myself that if the screws are looser, to make it respond to softer steps, it makes more noise on a hard step. But I've decided to keep them loose so that I can step softly and still have it respond well.
The problem with stepping really softly is that for fast streams, I rely on sort of keeping my body in the air to turn quickly, and that's harder to do while stepping softly.
So I guess I'm looking for something I can stick on it to cushion the sound of impact without destroying step accuracy.

What, you live in a multi-story apartment? That's cool. We don't have those in California D: Oh and use something like a drum-muffler if a drum will still respond then I'm sure your at least 100lb weight will work on a CF or any metal pad. It'll muffle the *slapclackslapclack* sounds too.

I now live in a house instead of an apartment, so the only concern is waking up my family (we have different sleep schedules) .

I doubt there would be much difference to the noise output whether you play using headphones or not since the STEPPING is makes the most noise anyway. Certainly my home pad (Which is not a CF) is pretty loud even with my speakers turned up to a moderate volume level.

Well, I've only lived in ones that go up to 3 stories.
I've delivered furniture to a couple 20-odd story apartments though. One was a UofU dorm, the other was a retirement home.
I wouldn't want to live high in one though, eventually I'd end up on the pavement under the balcony.

Geez, your "upstair" neighbors were not happy?
Wait til I play at my home and piss off my "downstairs" neighbors.

I meant like 20 story-apartments like the ones in NY. |
So you assumed we'd know what you meant when no number was implied in the OP?

Yeah, I always assume that because my dream is to go to NY or wherever when I grad. from ACCD and live in one of those high-rise apt. buildings on the super-high floors :D

I'm like Kyzentun. I'd rather not live 20 stories above the ground. It can be a bit creepy being up there and I wouldn't want to navigate through 20 levels of elevators to reach my car.
Since it can be creepy, I might be afraid to use a CF.

Umm, we have those in Nor Cal. Lots of them, in fact.
I'd second what most people have said here, but I would suggest going to foam pads at night (i.e. Red Octane), metal pads by day?

Yeah id use a foam pad, as mentioned, but it isnt the pad its your steps, heavy steps are always loud, but the foam is much quieter than a CF, or a metal pad.
And whats a single story apartment? I mean wouldnt those be town homes? Idk, this conversation is confusing, it seems like some of you never travel to other towns. Busy places like California should have plenty, even in the smallish town i live in has multi story apartments all around. I mean they just constructed a 22 story apartment building on the street of my neighborhood. And we arent even that largely populated. :/
