Machines disappearing. Places closing down. Remaining machines not improving. Pretty much the biggest problem with this state when it comes to dancing games. Anyone seem to know why this state?

It all depends on the owners and maintenance.
It also relies on the fanbase to push the owners or whomever to take the next step to fix/update.

Dave & Buster's in Times Square has a DDR X dedicab, with halfway decent pads, despite its design. I was there on Saturday for the first time in 2 years and tried it out.
Peter Pan Games in Bayside, Queens has a DDR X2 (Asia preview version, pad codes do not work) machine, upgraded from SuperNOVA. Pads are in excellent condition, but (IMO) the machine has to be moved. The machine is right next to a basketball game, which the 1P pad nearly touch.
The only other arcades I frequent for smashing arrows are also only open seasonally (April October). El Dorado Arcade has an EXTREME and ITG2 (I believe r16), while the Deno's Wonder Wheel Arcade has a SuperNOVA dedicab.

I am aware of the X & X2 parts, but they don't exactly sound like much. And, I am also fully aware of Coney Island's machines. The only problem is, how is the ITG2 machine only an R16, if it has USB slots?

Best I could do for upstate is Woodbury Commons. Don't have a car, and no one I know is willing to take me to Crystal Run just yet. I checked for buses that go from Westchester to Middletown. They are in existence, but the service frequency leaves little to be desired. What exactly is up north over there, may I ask?

Well, here's a glimmer of hope for the Capital Region (Albany, Schenectady, Saratoga, Troy etc....)
http://popcrush1057.com/dave-busters-coming-to-albany-area/
I know the D&B's back home in RI had a Pump It Up Fiesta, and a newer D&B's in Braintree, MA has a DDR X2. So, there's hope. It's set to open sometime in 2013.

The only way a D & B is going to be any form of surprise to me, is if this one somehow actually gets ITG2 machine, potentially making it the first D & B in the entire country to have an ITG2 machine.

These are some locations I know that have notable dancing games:
Peter Pan Games of Bayside: It has DDR X2 and ITG 2 in one cabinet. But it does get annoying with the basketball game next to it, it keeps interrupting gameplay. Also, the last time I played X2, it keeps zooming in then out sometimes, haven't seen this happen to ITG2. There's also PIU NX, but I can really care less about that.
Chinatown Fair: If you like PIU Fiesta EX, then go here. They are supposed to also have a hacked ITG cabinet, but I'm pretty sure that isn't going to happen for a long time. It's been 2? Months that they've said this.
Dave & Busters (Old Country Road): This has SuperNOVA 2, tends to be crowded. Token line applies here.
But yes, I can agree there are barely any dancing machines here in NY.
Tokens'n'Tickets (QCM) was my local arcade, I can literally walk there. It's a shame that it was closed down...
Astoria Theater had an Extreme Cabinet, which is annoying because there's like a billion of those here, but still got removed.

Are there any 11+ ITG players north of NYC? Sch'dy/Rotterdam area specifically?
My basement cab (ITG upgrade) is coming through. (A lot of work to be done still, but it's playable now at least)

I'm not really a 11+ player (at least not consistently) but I live about 10-15 minutes from Schenectady.

There used to be a lot of great machines & locations here in NY, mainly in the five boroughs, Westchester County, and Rockland County. But for some reason, they seem to keep disappearing. And, I've been to every single one of them that has been closed down, or has had something really bad happen to their machines. Catskill Laser Tag (West Nyack), Krazy City (West Nyack), Nathan's (Yonkers), Seafood City (Bronx), QCM, Toys R Us (Times Square), the old Chinatown Fair, and even El Dorado (Coney Island). It's probably just about as bad in other states for all I know, but it feels as if NY itself has it the worst.
And now another bites the dust. There goes Peter Pan Games. http://zenius-i-vanisher.com/v5.2/arcadelocations.php?locationid=1538
My question now is simply this:
Why? Why us? Why NY? Why this many machines? Where do the machines end up going? What happens to the people that go to these places? What can we do to make it stop happening?
As a 12/13 player from Westchester County, I think I'm just ready to abandon NY for good. And, quite frankly, it does not surprise me that my parents are planning to move from NY to Las Vegas very soon, so I could go to a college that is cheaper. In other words, as glamorous as NY may have used to be & should be, it has become to expensive for it's own good, in virtually every way possible. That is why we are leaving.

Why NY?
Well, look at how much your standard 1 bedroom apartment charges for rent. Double that and you have how much a retailer needs to pay for rent each month. NOTE : This does not cover maintenance, and utilities. The machines get dispersed to other arcades via some sort of liquidation or if the machines were rented out, they simply go back to their owners.
Source : New Yorker.
At least we have 8otB for our IIDX and Technika needs...*sigh*

It's not worth having the machines if there isnt a consistent flow of people using it. It just becomes a waste of space given the lack of a DDR/ITG community around here. Sucks, but I understand why there's so few machines.

In that vein, you have to take the effort to foster the community, and be open to anyone that wants to take part, whether that be via DDR or ITG. That's all you can really do.
And take a look at the arcade tracker, New York still has a bunch of machines. What would happen if you moved to North Dakota, for example?

I think Connecticut has got it worse for the lack of DDR/ITG/PIU machines. On here we only have a few machine known in the Fairfield County, and we don't have above EXTREME. PIU is non-existent in this state.
I've literally talked to a few arcade owners, and they all said they though EXTREME was the last DDR...
I feel so alone...there are only one or two DDR players in my area that I know of...the rest of the people who have used the EXTREME machine I've gone to are people who don't know how to play and fail at the easiest songs on ...and it's embarrassing...they give up half way too.
EDIT: Just checked...ITG 2 is in Stamford.

R.I. has got quite a few machines in good condition, Mass. even more so;
But I have yet to see anything above a Supernova in either. On the plus side, our D&B has a Fiesta c:
Edit: Apparently the Dave And Busters in Braintree has an X2! Maybe I should make a trip...

Hmmm... Yeah, the only machines I've gotten to play and enjoy since moving down here are the Dave & Busters and Peter Pan, neither of which were anything too phenomenal. There's an arcade in Syracuse with an X2 cab that works really nicely, though. I only got to play it a few times before I moved a few years ago, so I'm not sure what kind of condition it's in now.

There's also an arcade in Framingham (Game Underground) that has a ITG loaded with custom songs and a tricoro cab. And though the X2 in Braintree is most probably Beston, it's definitely a step in the right direction.
