The line “I like our castle.” is from the xkcd comic, Time. Megan and Cueball are standing atop the castle they spent 800+ frames building. “I like our castle.”
It's followed immediately by the line, “I think it’s going to go away.”
That served as the initial inspiration for this.
Initially, I had the bricks full of only negative thoughts and worries. But, that didn’t feel quite right. It felt artificially heavy; it felt untrue. So I tried to strike a balance.
I was initially intrigued by the idea of “is it better to leave the castle standing, unexplored? Or is it better to disassemble it, brick by brick, and learn what it’s actually made of?”
But, that idea kind of gave way to just having feelings—a great spectrum of feelings—trapped in bricks in a breakaway clone. And that’s okay, too.
I think as a piece, it is still able to be interpreted uniquely by each person who plays it.
I hope, at least.
