Yes, FUTURE. With capital letters.
My question to creators at this moment in time; what kind of features (i.e. commands, effects, etc.) would you want to be available for use in SM themes, BGAnimations, etc, if things were more sophisticated and modern under the hood?
i.e. actual blurs, lighting effects, shadows, glows, etc. Forget the limitations, envision the possibilities. You'll see why, in the FUTURE.

I would love to see the things from 3.9 (such as the groove radar) come back, and something less ITG-ish would be nice.

You can have the groove radar on 5.0.x. See the port of the 3. 9 default. This also isn't necessarily about stuff like that; this is more about internal features, coding, etc.Quote: jdramirez

I think distortion, glitching, and white noise background effects would look neat.
Also, able to set the chord cohesion off, so that each arrows in jumps would have their own timing judgments.

yeah. what we're working on will have more robust shader support too, but my idea was to have some "canned" effects templates too. Also, able to set the chord cohesion off, so that each arrows in jumps would have their own timing judgments.
Now, you're probably wondering, who's "we"? We're focusing on things that should have been done a long time ago, and we will reveal things soon.

More Eurovision stars and Paddington.
But seriously, I’ve always wanted a way to save speed mods on a per song basis, similar to DJMAX.

I recommend you to use a different speed mod like M-mods and A-mods (in some themes), or you may also use C-mods if you don't like the effects of stops and BPM changes.

I've had other people suggest this, but I always seem to have undesired results when using M-Mods. From what I understand, getting SM to save X-Mod settings per song is possible on a theme level, but I just haven't seen it implemented yet. But you know, I'm just being a lazy ass anyways. I can deal with changing the mods per song.

related note, we were thinking about adding more kb-type game types to appeal to DJMax and the like
