Starting with Semi final 1...
Finland is my favorite here. Besides, I'm so mad at my own country for selecting the completely wrong entrant! So much so that I actually hope Sweden bombs it this year.
This is what the Swedish people voted for (and so did I), but the jury stopped.

Most of the entries there are better than Robin's, IMO. I really like Nano's entry, but my fave is Jon Henrik's. What a song.
(this is coming from someone who loves Robin's song last year)
I hear that the fault lies in the heart voting. Apparently Swedes can give up to five hearts per entry? That just makes everyone's tallies super close and the televote useless.

Indeed, many people here started complaining about it for the same reason. It is kinda weird, cause normally when I watch, I tend to root for my home country even though the song's not necessarily the best (in fact, it never has been since I started to watch the show in 2004), but this time I can't do it at all since the song is so bad. I honestly had no idea what the international jury saw in that one.

Ohhh, this year isn't a strong one by any means.
Italy will probably win. I don't think any other country deserves it tbh

I consider this year both stronger AND weaker than 2016. While there finally is songs that I really like (Finland, Belarus and, to my own surprise, Australia), there are six songs that I just can't stand at all (Sweden, Moldova, Iceland, Norway, Estonia and France). In 2016 there was no favorite for me except for Romania, which in the end didn't participate, and there were a couple of bad songs as well.
I miss 2014 though. No songs that really made me cringe, plus that there were several good songs that year. Norway 2014 still my all time favorite from 1956 to present day.

Over half of the contest is literally the same 90-ish BPM dirge this year.

yeah, that's the problem. 90-110 bpm. Belarus sticks out in that right, as it goes in 155. And to think that we Swedes wanted to send a 160 BPM song, but the jury screwed us over and sent a 109 BPM song in our place instead.

Either way, a dirge is a dirge is a dirge.
Will probably still watch the semis but I won't be all that invested like I usually am.

I can't believe Australia advanced after the hiccup during the live performance.

OH WOW Italy loses SO MUCH when it's performed live. I don't think it's going to win.
Also OH WOW United Kingdom actually has decent staging for once!? What is this!?

Finland
To be honest when there was one name left I expected Latvia, but Belgium happened.
The UK sounded like she was out of breath. I hope it doesn't happen in the final...

OK, that semifinal went much better than the first! My full top 3 (Netherlands, Hungary, Romania) are in, and Belarus deserves it as well.

I'm pleasantly surprised with the results! Very pleased Belarus + the Netherlands + Austria are in, and just about everyone who qualified deserves it. A bit sad about FYROM; I love their studio ver, but the staging leaves much to be desired.

The UK's in a really good position there. It MIGHT actually hit Top 20
Also of note from a friend in the know: "I know the draw is partly random and all, but… note that the Ukrainian producers were fired a few months ago and replaced by Swedes..."

still I don't think Sweden had the best draw here, having to participate right BEFORE Bulgaria. I think Sweden might lose a few points here and there. (Actually hope that, because our song is so bland)
And the winner is Portugal! Though not my favorite, it's nice to see a 100% non-english song win again. I really hope more countries will have the courage to sing in their native tongue again next year.

Yes! Portugal won! Couldn't be happier. It's been 10 years since the last (100%) non-English song won. I agree with Nightmare, I hope this will convince countries to use their native language sometimes. I hope this doesn't mean 2018 will be a snoozefest…
Italy tho? I thought it would be closer to the top than the actual result.
SF1 results
Jury members denied Finland, and televoters denied both the Czech Republic and Georgia.
Honestly didn't expect Latvia to be last.
SF2 results
Jury members denied both Estonia and Switzerland, and televoters denied both Malta and Serbia.
