Not entirely sure if there was a thread made 2 years ago when the Kickstarter was there, but I don't think that's the case.
Anyway, I backed this game back in 2015, and unlike Mighty No.9, I'm quite satisfied with the game I received in the end! It's not a perfect game (the only two real problems I have are the camera being locked in some areas, and the occasional framedrops, but they're minor to me), but I would give it a solid 8 or 8.5 out of 10.
I'm currently about 2 Pagies away from finishing Tribalstack Tropics, and I'm trying to tackle the 2nd world, which I expanded not too long ago

Did you know that Jon-Tron was supposed to be in this game, but got pulled off due to his political comments?

Everyone knows. That's the only reason 95% of people who have heard of this game have heard of it.

Nah, there's no way that's how most people know of the game. I didn't even know about JonTron being removed until someone mentioned it in the chat.
I think the vast majority of people just know about it because it got a lot of publicity between when it was kickstarted and when it was released.

So, I'm on the verge of beating the game (I can pretty much go for beating the final boss at this point), so I think I am legally allowed to pass final judgment: is it a bad game like certain people play it out to be, and/or deserved be called another "Mighty No. 9?"? No. Should this have been given more time in the oven to iron out the weird glitches and refine some of the levels a bit more? Absolutely.
The best way I can describe Yooka-Laylee would be it's both underwhelming and overwhelming: "Underwhelming" in the sense that a couple of the worlds feel a bit barren (particularly the 2nd world) and probably needed a bit more time to tweak the design a little bit more, and then "Overwhelming" in a sense that the expanded worlds might be a bit too big (I still have no clue where the hell the last quill in Tribalstack Tropics is, and there's times where I wish I was given a little bit more of a hint than a mere whistle whenever I am nearby a rare object).
With that being said, when this game shows it's bright spots, it looks and plays like I'm playing that 3rd Banjo-Kazooie game everyone wanted back in the heyday, and the later three worlds are easily the best levels in the game because the layout has variety, the objectives are more fun than frustrating, and by that time, you'll have learned a good chunk of the abilities.
Personally, I believe I got what I paid for back when I backed this on Kickstarter, and I'm sure a lot of people feel the same way. With that being said, I would be lying if I said the game was perfect, or even was as good as Banjo-Kazooie/Tooie. If I were to give it a score, I would give it a solid 7.5 or 8 out of 10.
