"suffering from success" |
Last updated: 2017-04-12 07:44pm
Thought I'd throw this out there, see if anyone else would even be remotely interested.
For those not in the know, in the simfile section of the site, we're missing an extraordinary amount of packs for certain games (primarily the Dancing Stage titles). And a lot of the data we do have here is in lower quality. Sure, there are packs of these files out on the wild if you look long enough, but these are of obsolete data (128kbps MP3? .dwi files? This is no longer 2004.) and could use a ton of sprucing up.
This is the part where you come in.
I was tossing around the idea of there being "remastered" versions of these simfiles. The official data, but more up to the current simfiling standard. No more low quality MP3 files, no more camera shots of backgrounds, etc. Basically done for completion and preservation's sake. While these games are more niche than usual (hell, just try looking for some on eBay), they still represent a part of the rhythm game community, one I feel is sorely overlooked.
If anyone at all is interested in helping out with this project, it would be most appreciated. I'll say it right off the bat that it's something I would help do if I had the game data, but unfortunately I don't. But it's not like those projects you see pop up where it's like "oh you do the work and i'll take credit for it"; again, this is for preservation's sake, and you will of course be credited for your work - like, it's not an umbrella project, it's just a request from a regular.
If we can keep up to date on the official DDR A data, why not take a trip back in time and indulge in some nostalgia? Or help most of us yanks experience uncharted territory?
tl;dr - there's a lot of official simfiles we're missing and a lot that need sprucing up, something something something about Dancing Stage?
Edit: some examples of completely missing packs:
- DS Unleashed 3
- DS Fever (PS1/PS2)
- DS PARTY EDiTiON
- DS feat. DREAMS COME TRUE (AC/CS)
- DS feat. TRUE KISS DESTINATION
- DS MegaMiX
- DDR Disney MIX/DS Disney RAVE
- DDR OHA-STA!/Tokemeki Mix
- I Need You (Insideout Door Mix) [not a pack, but the official file for this has been wrong for almost a decade now]
- DDR GB/GB2/GB3/GB Disney/GB OHA-STA! [the absolute least necessary of the lot]
- DDR DANCE WARS [gonna be tricky if not impossible now that the servers are down]
If there are any other ones, feel free to mention them. I hope to get someone interested in helping out with this request/project/whatever. Thank you for your time.

Here's most of the songs from Dance Wars, transcribed by me before the game went offline. The only songs missing are the songs from the Wynter Gordon pack, which were taken down from the store pretty much immediately after being put up. Another problem with the pack is that a lot of the songs start at beat 0, because I didn't know better, but the steps should be accurate.

I have basically all the packs except for the GBC releases and DanceWars in my backup folder.
Going to remaster and upload them in 3-5 hours or so (if i have time)

I sincerely hope that this project isn't going to turn into people just downloading pre-existing simfiles and uploading them and saying that they're remastered.
Also, will be updating the first post with what that needs to be updated/uploaded.
I appreciate the interest for this thread, and I hope this project becomes a success.

i'm pretty sure all you did was take the ddruk simfiles and convert the mp3 to ogg, because the audio is still at the same frequency cutoff and also block rockin' beats (with the updated graphics) is missing

You are asking for a re-dump not a re-upload, but seems not to be clear.
I think you could do a list/table with the missing resources to avoid conflicts, I could dump DS Fever PS2 songs and graphics, I will have to check the PSX version, I have it too, but I haven't explored it.

I was in a hurry when i was doing the simfiles, sorry :v
I also fixed the sync in most of the songs. (some songs' offsets were wrong and some others had unnecessary bpm changes)
And no, i could not find Block Rockin' Beats' simfile+updated graphics anywhere, sorry <_<

Yes, a re-dump of the data for updated simfiles. Uploading new sims for games we don't have uploaded, updating sims for games we currently have. Basically, if you (anyone) can get your hands on the .iso files, preferably through legal means you goddamn pirates, and rip the data, we're golden.I think you could do a list/table with the missing resources to avoid conflicts, I could dump DS Fever PS2 songs and graphics, I will have to check the PSX version, I have it too, but I haven't explored it.
I'll work on a Google Spreadsheet with what needs to be done, will slap it in the first post when it's ready.

if it helps out, the PS 1 version had songs from the PS 2 version and no exclusives, but all the files on there had no freeze arrows and different banners/backgrounds for the most part, so just getting the graphics, copying simfiles from other mixes and doing a "no holds" mod would be the quickest way of sorting that out if the PS2 ones are done first.

I could dump Disney Mix if someone can help me on how to do it.
Appended 7/1/17
Okay since no one wanted to help me I was able to do it myself.I hope I did it correctly the .bin file was a success since I ran it on the ePSXe emulator. Any ideas where I can upload the .bin and .cue rips?

Do you mean the graphic files extracted from the BIN/CUE files? If so, any image hosting would be fine. If you mean the actual BIN/CUE image files, then I dont't think it will be legal to upload and post the link here.

I've ripped the entire game as I dunno how to rip the graphics alone let alone just to rip the songs and charts. So that is why I genuinely asked for help and was ignored.
