but are there new songs that are on the online menu?

No, it;s just the same game online (no exclusive songs, not everyone has internet-enabled ps2s!). You pick a room, chat with people, play songs, rankings,etc. It's ok, but the major complain is the absence of speed mods. Hopefully they'll add those in the next release, a lot more people would join the online experience then.
