Hi, new guy here.
I thought that I'd try playing BM/LR2 using an actual controller just to see what it's like (I've never seen a home controller or an arcade machine either). So I bought a 5-key KOC (European) for spare change and now I'm trying to get it connected at least to my PC (i also have a PS3).
As far as I understand, most PSX->USB adapters introduce variable lag that's impossible to offset, and those that don't cost more than I spent for the controller (or aren't available anymore), so that's not a viable option. However! I do have one of them old PSX->LPT adapters that supposedly have no input lag whatsoever. So, my options seem to be:
1. Buy a LPT->USB adapter. Will that even work?
2. Buy a LPT PCI card.
Option 2 seems the most sensible, but I doubt it'll work with Windows 10.
Any advice?

I personally use an adapter with my PS2 Beatmania US controller. I can't observe any really bad lag, or maybe I've just grown accustomed to the timing. Either way, I'm sure there are adapters out there with minimal lag, so I'd suggest digging around a bit to see if you come up with anything good. I haven't really looked at adapters though, so I can't name any names. Hope this helped!

I haven't played much Lunatic Rave 2, but I know that StepMania features an option that lets you modify in-game timing to match your device's natural latency. I don't know if Lunatic Rave 2 is like that, but you could try.

Lunatic Rave 2 does include a judgement timing offset adjustment option, and if your timing is really good, you could even use the auto adjust to help find the proper value.Post #5 · Posted at 2017-02-22 10:36:04pm 8.2 years ago

Yeah, I know about offsetting, that doesn't bother me much provided that the lag is constant. From what I read, the lag introduced by PS1/2->USB adapters is variable because the polling rate is very low and sometimes the button is registered earlier, sometimes later. I'll see it for myself in a couple of days (I ordered a generic adapter too), but what I'd like to know is can I get a parallel port adapter to work, because the internet says it does not introduce any lag.
In a bad scenario (it does not work with Win 10), I'll dual boot XP (the last Windows version I'm sure the LPT adapter supports). In the worst scenario, I'll borrow a PS2 from a friend and just play PSX Beatmania. But I'd really like to get the best I can from the hardware without paying more than, like, 15 bucks. If I get to like it, I'll probably buy a dedicated USB solution for LR2.
I'm more of a DDR person nowadays, though I did play a lot of BM98 on a keyboard back in the day and loved it. And Beatmania on a GB too.
